After we achieved our travel goal of Florida to Maine, we decide to explore more of Upstate New York. As the holidays begin, we made plans to fly back to Florida to visit family and friends, for Thanksgiving, but the timing was not great.
We found ourselves forced to stick out the potentially historic Lake Effect Winter Storm headed right for us, in Buffalo New York. Even with moving a little out of the area, we still got most of the storm but you'll find out how we truly felt about it.
Being Florida kids, enjoying an immense amount of snow is a dream and that we did. Join us as we continue to create endless memories by living untraditionally, on the road, without an address to call home.

Love it. You're in my territory. I live south of Rochester in the Finger Lakes. That was the week TheBuffalo Bills had a hame at Orchard Park. They had to move the game to Detroit. I'm still like a giddy girl and love the snow.

Ah, yes. We called it Snowvember 2.0. ❄️ We live about 20 minutes south of where you were and got 4 feet between Thursday night and Saturday night. Normally we would've offered to take you to lunch or something knowing you were so close but we didn't even get plowed out until Sunday afternoon. Troy works for General Mills and they were even still closed on Monday because of the driving ban. You both pronounced Cheektowaga correctly which is a hard one. 👍 It was hard enough to deal with this one in an apartment, I can't imagine doing it in a truck camper. We went to Niagara Falls last Saturday for their Jingle Falls event and it was also super windy and super duper cold. 🥶 Glad you made it down to the warmth. Thanks for sharing your blizzard experience. ❄️ -Troy & Aimee

Hahah it was definitely an experience!! We are so glad we stayed for it! And I’m Glad we pronounced it right hahaha some city names we aren’t always 100% on! And that sounds so fun! Niagara Falls is beautiful!

The nice thing about LES is that they are relatively localized and don't effect multiple states and cities like many major Blizzards, Nor'easters, and your average snow storm. In fact people living in the mid west, particularly those living in Tornado prone states, would under a LES storms ability to completely paralyze one town less than 5 miles away with snow so heavy and dense even with no wind just the shere volume of snow falling causes literally hours of complete white outs, and that intense amount of falling snow can drop 6" in an hour (hense the mind blowing totals of 7'-8' post storm, which comes to about 16 hours at 6" per hour!) and that much snow fall in such short periods of time is obviously impossible to keep on plowed and shoveled so you just get buried and wait for it to pass. This storm in particular did most of it's damage 5-10 + miles south of Buffalo in an area that covered about 3 miles in width and 20 miles in length. As the winds changed the band moved north and sat, then moved south over the city and sat, only dumping maybe 2ft over 48 hours, which is nothing compared to 6' in 24 hours! It then sank south again and sat while the city and northern suburbs, including the airport area, had sunny but cold conditions thru Saturday and Sunday. And by the way, by the following weekend it was in the 50's and by Thanksgiving you wouldn't have ever known it snowed. Now if you don't live in the effected areas and have plenty of time to move elsewhere there's no reason to get stuck. Rochester is an hour from Buffalo and 50 min of that hour would have been in sun and dry roads.

That’s some good info! We were actually in the heavily affected area the night of but decided to move before the storm came in so we weren’t completely stuck. Being from Florida, it was an event we had to experience and we also had a flight out of a day or two after the storm.

We live in South Buffalo near the waterfront, we can see the windmills from our front porch. We got hammered with 60 inches, it took the city 8 days to finally clear our street...... You were smart to get the hell out, Orchard Park & Hamburg ended up getting 80 inches of snow

Can't believe people only rely on solar power.

I camp for extended periods of time in inclement weather. I don't have to concern myself about being in the sun, don't have to climb up to the roof to clean off the only charging system I have. Don't have to run the truck if the batteries get low at night. Never never have to put up with an uncomfortable cold or hot camper. I have a 3200 watt remote electric start generator on the front of the truck. I removed the onboard battery and wired it direct to the truck battery. Lots of power to get it started from my bed if I want. When running it charges up the truck battery. I have 110 unlimited any time. With the snow like you have I can run the generator for a few hours in the morning and a few hours before bed bringing the temp to where it's comfortable with AC or electric heat. In the last two years I have used a campground less than a half dozen times. I camp for longer than a month at a time off grid. Last year 6 week tour through Newfoundland with one night in a campground. Never had a solar array never will. Waste of good money.
@OurFulltimeAdventure
@OurFulltimeAdventure Год назад
We really love ours and have a fully electric camper with zero propane and have camped in negative temps for extended periods of time off grid. We have a generator that’ll top off the batteries on streaks of cloudy days but besides that, we don’t camp in campgrounds either. We can add a DC to DC which we already have to make keeping the batteries full easier but besides that, solar is everything we ever wanted
@Propworn
@Propworn Год назад
You have a generator what do you fuel that with? You talk about filling up your heater what do you fuel that with. How do you run your AC I took a 2007 Arctic Fox 811 four season camper. Converted all lighting to led. Added a 3000 watt pure sine wave inverter. I have 2 30lb propane tanks my fridge is full size for a truck camper and is 3 way. Replaced the two 12 volt batteries with two 6 volt golf cart batteries, less than half price of lithium cells. 6 years in use never left me stranded. Of course I have low battery alarms and all I do is remote start my 3200 watt generator. When the genny is running I use an electric heater. If that were to fail I have my propane furnace and this year I am looking into a small diesel heater. Hot weather is uncomfortable cold weather can kill. My generator is wired direct to the truck battery for start and charging. The generator has a 6 hour fuel tank and I found info on the web to convert it to run also from a boat portable tank. Estimated run time 3 to 4 days. My propane stove has a 3 burner cook top plus full oven. My truck alternator has a switch that will go to full charging my camper batteries if they are lower than the truck batteries. If your boondocking in the winter and I don't mean in some parking lot but out in the sticks and you get snowed in and have only one source of heat you could be in trouble. I don't have to climb on top to shovel off the snow in bad conditions. No I carefully thought out solar power but considering on a cloudy day, not even overcast your likely to loose half of your input. In the summer I like to camp in the shade, ops there goes that solar power again. Rain ditto. Night zero. I think without your generator you would be in trouble.
