Great video. Thank you. Surprised you don’t have snowshoes. Also a rigid rod for measuring. I think a folding wooden ruler would penetrate the snow better that a metal measuring tape. And still fit in a coat pocket.
@@ReedTimmerWx Nothing that We here on in WNY or Central NY haven't seen before, right? LOL. P .Ann B, wishing you warmth and safety from West Seneca NY.
From tornadoes in Texas to hurricanes in Florida now crazy snow in New York. You're a true weather professional a blessing to so many. Thanks for all your efforts and hard work.
@@JACKnJESUS I 100% agree with just turn on the weather channel and see what's going on. When he is around my area, I check my radar apps and monitor those as well. He knows an inimaginable amount for information about storms and predictions. His passion for doing something that he loves to do and the lengths to which he goes to accomplish that is what I'm talking about. Also him showing his heart for people when he is on a chase and stops everything to help people that were impacted.
@@sglasgow79 I understand and this seems normal today. I don't mean to berate his efforts. He is however...not a professional, and probably does not have resources to implement his own rescue if need be. Then he would pick up his phone...and call...professionals. He is another person out in terrible weather...possibly creating another problem for people hired to do the actual work. Anyone who does not ABSOLUTELY have to be outside right no on the roads...should NOT be.
I actually listen to the stream all night. I did sleep at one point. When I woke up it was daylight and you were walking around on the same live stream. I work midnights and dayside. I know what you an your team go through. Thanks for the videos and the time to make them. I've learned so much watching your videos. I am a Part 107 sUAS operator and am a better pilot because of these videos. Bravo!
Born and raised in Black Sea part of Istanbul, when i was a kid i always imagined that all snowfall events in the world was caused by sea evaporation, named sea effect snowfall. Also thundersnow was a normal event for me. Kinda shocked when i learnt that fronts caused most snowfall in the world except places which sit near water bodies. This is such a common phenomenon in Istanbul, that we usually get not only sea effect snowfall, but also sea effect rains which lasts for days. I remember one time it rained straight for 10 days in a spray form, which only totaled to 10 mm. Black Sea region of Turkey is truly a moisture heaven. Thanks to these type of sea effect, some years we even get 30 inches of snow in just a single storm, 100 m above sea level. Also our latitude is lower than western Europe but we get much more snow thanks to Black Sea.
The locality of lake effect snow amazes me. I'm near Welland in Ontario. We have a completely clear sky, but Buffalo is getting walloped only a half-hour's drive away. Good luck and stay safe.
TY for covering this! I went to Hamburg High School! And I grew up in Blasdell, NY. I feel for everyone there going through this nightmare Snowthunder blizzard. Fantastic drone coverage!
I'm in Buffalo and last night was the first time in my life I ever experienced thunder snow, which I never even heard of before. I was sleeping and a huge crash woke me up and suddenly the whole room lit up from a kind of lightning I have never seen before. I really don't remember there ever being thunder and lightning during a snowstorm.
i remember very long time go probably 30 years go in ulster county NY i think we got like 26' to 36' of snow and it thunder ⚡ it was pretty cool one of my best friend mother got married that day to . i think it was in mid 1990's if i remember right
@@funtyes1970 That is crazy. I've lived in Buffalo most of my life and I don't ever remember there ever being Thundersnow lightning. It was different than regular lightning because it stayed lit up for about 5 Seconds rather than just the really quick Flash of regular lighting. I thought maybe it was an emergency vehicle outside my building turning on a spotlight or something. It was that kind of light.
Awesome you are here with us in Hamburg. Important to note the official snowfall is taken at the airport which might register a foot or so. Also the band is very localized, drive 10-15 miles north of the city and it’s just a dusting of snow. Love your work buddy and enjoy the snow.
That's bonkers! I'm in Wisconsin and we don't get half of that all winter anymore. Sometimes I wish we'd get a really good snowstorm but I know we couldn't handle this kind. Stay warm, peeps!
All that snow looks like absolute heaven to me! We've had lake effect here in SEWI, but nothing like that. Just beautiful! Regards & thanks for posting this!
wow, that's absolutely mind-blowing how much snow the lake effect snow can bring in! I live in Northern WV, and the most snow i'd ever seen here was about 39 inches off the nor'easter we had gotten from the Super Storm Sandy back in 2012/2013. I cannot even begin to imagine 5 or 6 feet. Prayers in abundance for everyone up in NY!
I have experience thunder in a sand storm. It is crazy. I can’t imagine how long it’s going to take to open back up and they are used to a lot of snow.
I have seen thunder snow quite a few times here in Richmond Virginia.. Especially right after heavy sleet or freezing rain turns to snow. I remember the first time seeing thunder snow I thought I was tripping 😃 Didn't know it existed
You’re a beast. Keep going Reed. It’s been fun watching and nerve wracking too. I lived in Dunkirk 57 years and am a North Carolina resident for the past five years. I was up there last winter which was pretty mild. I’m glad I’m here now but have great memories from wny living. You gotta be heathy and strong for winters like this. I’ve shoveled out many times heavy snow and have made snow forts for my kids. We had sledding weekends and all kinds of fun. Hot cocoa always made us happy and warm! Thanks for covering this and sharing with us. Stay safe and warm tonight. Take care. ❤
1st time I remember experiencing thundersnow and seeing the lightning that comes with it, I was about 15 yrs old on the KB north ski lift. Kissing Bridge ski resort Glenwood NY. Lightning! and I'm 25 feet in the air on a metal chair, suspended from a metal cable, connected to metal ski lift towers. I thought i was a gonner.
I LOVE the foot chase!! Please do more of this. Not only is it safer for everyone involved, but you get more of a feel of just how deep the snow is. Loved the little icicles on your eyelashes! Hope you got a nice hot shower at the end of the day and that you're getting some restful sleep tonight. Wish I could be there to make a snow cave!! Never stop chasing!
I’ve lived in Southwest Michigan most of my life. We always get significant lake effect snow. Never this amount though! We’re at about 15” that all came down starting Wednesday. I’ve even seen thunder snow where I live and let me tell you …..it’s SO cool. Expecting another 3-6” by tomorrow evening. Stay safe everyone !! 😁
Dang that's a lot of that white stuff! We live in South Central Nebraska in a small town south of I-80. If we were to get a foot or so of snow here our town would shut down. We haven't had decent snow amounts in a few years so let's see what this winter will bring..I feel bad for the ppl there and I sure do hope everyone there will be alright! God bless them all!!! And Reed, ty for being a champ and showing all of us how bad it really is there. Stay safe my friend
Timmer Domination covers Western NY. Appreciate your coverage of our LA snow event. Believe it or not we love them around here. Nothing to do but stay warm and help out a neighbors clean up. People stick together like that. Wouldn't live any where else. You Rock Reed!!
Love these videos. I can’t afford to go out and do this so I’m glad others do! Stay safe man!. 4-5” per hour is insane! PS: Imagine having 50” of snow on your roof!
Thanks for sharing this beautiful video which is so professionally done. I am from Trinidad and Tobago where we have never seen this type of weather, I can only imagine what it is like there.
Great vid, Reed! I've enjoyed your content on twitter for years but this is my first time visiting your RU-vid channel. May I humbly suggest that you promote this more in your tweets? Great content as always. Thanks!
Wow! We had a blizzard in the greater Cincinnati area in 1977 that shut everything down for nearly a week. It was epic. Can’t wait to see what’s still up there 🌨❄️. 👍☮️🌞❄️
Watched you chase hurricanes and tornadoes for years now without worry...and now see you in a snow storm and am worried lol! And I am from Canada! This is a bad one! Be safe 🙏
You said the lightning during a snow storm is rare, but if you live it Buffalo it happens probably every couple of years. It normally happens during lake effect snow storms and usually it's a sign that it is about to get bad. They are really impressive during a whiteout. You can't see the lightning, but the whole sky lights up and of course you hear the thunder.
Wow, I haven't seen you in awhile. Great to see you Reed. I'll hit that button. I'm in SW Michigan and we have 14 inches of snow where I am at. Been awhile since I've been thigh deep in snow.
As someone who never experienced lake effect snow it is amazing to see! But also weird to know that a few KM or MI up North or South it is completely different weather! Hard to imagine
What is terrifying? Just stay inside and you are safe. All our houses are standing unlike areas which get hit with Hurricanes and Tornadoes or Earthquakes. An inconvenience to be sure but nothing more unless, like some people, who ignore the driving bans and get stuck. A little Darwin activity here would help.
@@mikewurlitzer5217 Hard to disagree with. My problem is that *great* people are diverted and sometimes lost saving people that would not otherwise survive. Must we always sacrifice our heroes for thoughtless behavior?
The snow machine is in overdrive. Cass County Michigan was getting 2” an hour Wednesday from the lake effect snow bans from Lake Michigan durning our 26 hour winter warning. Snow advisory since then and snow finally ended about an hour ago receiving 14” of snow.
It "thundersnowed" where I live in Georgia, back in 2004. The weatherbug app kept going off on the computer. The temperature was dropping dramatically every few mins. All of a sudden, a big lightning flash came, then thunder. All of a sudden, it started snowing, and we had about 4-5 inches that night-day. It was great!
Thank you thank you thank you Reid I knew you would come through I'm an old Jersey boy somewhat snow bunny type guy now out here in California not a cloud in the sky today wishing I was back there shoveling with some of the people thanks again for posting the kind of footage that we need and want to see..... And wow I guess I must have been one of the lucky ones in the late 90s we had a nice blizzard in New Jersey where I witnessed thunder snow
Thank you for watching and leaving a message I appreciate your activities on this channel take a screenshot of this comment and message my telegraph handle for Xmas package ☝☝☝☝
WOW! This is absolutely mesmerizing to watch. I actually wish I was there experiencing that storm. Thankful to not have to end up stranded and snowed in at the moment though.
Just found your channel. The front photo on this one drew me in. Nice coverage. Looks like my (Texas girl) first snow in Gunnison Colorado, winter of 2007. I learned, don't stop shoveling. Stay safe. Enjoyed.
