@Sonny1989 harness side, backprobing, with PCM connector plugged in. Just an FYI, injector pulsing is so fast that a regular voltmeter will miss it. So I'm not sure how you're confirming that you don't have injection pulse on that cylinder. I'd use an incandescent test light to confirm flashing. Also, the system can shut the injector down intentionally if there is a recognized misfire, but it will always, momentarily, start firing it again on initial start up

What a deja vu moment for me watching this video. When i was working at Volvo dealership as a mechanic there was a Volvo V70 with this same 1.6 liter GDI turbo gasoline engine from Ford that had the same problem as this Ford on the video. All 4 injectors were leaking by just running the low pressure pump. After changing injectors and oil+filter car was running fine but on a test run it was obvious that engine didn't make full power in acceleration. Back to the garage and check in the exhaust pipe it was obvious that catalytic converter has melted because of rich condition. After replace of catalytic converter car ran perfectly. Afterwards i talked to a Ford technician and he said that leaking injectors is a common problem in that engine when driven only on RE85 Fuel (85% ethanol, 15%gas). Technician also said that this problem is avoidable if every 5th refill is done with normal fuel.

Your mother is a true fighter and you should both be proud, I love to see that your mother is better. Regarding the video, I had never seen gasoline engines fail more than 2 injectors at the same time, in Diesel it is more common to have failures that affect more than 2 injectors but the injectors are usually more complex at a mechanical level and leaks are generally due to fuel returns.

Yeah. Maybe one injector started leaking, diluted the oil which caused the HPFP to disintegrate which in turn sent metal particles down the line.

From my experience GDI Injector failures are becoming quite common. Due to GDI Injectors placement, extremely small nozzle sizes, they are subject to extreme conditions, activated multiple times during one combustion & operate under extreme fuel pressures unlike port Injectors. I sent in a set of ford GDI partially clogged Injectors to BG headquarters & they confirmed the restriction was a plastic & metal debris present. They were little perplexed so see plastic/metal as a debris. Obviously the cleaner didn't work, so they requested for me to send in to their ISO lab for testing. Great diagnostic work Danner.

Best wishes to all of your family, sir! This is an encouraging video. The initial absence of injector pulses when cranking probably is due to low rail pressure because of the bleed down: computer won't activate the injectors until a minimum pressure has been reached.

I considered fast forwarding to the diagnostics until you said your mom was out there. She's great. I am 69 and we lost our youngest daughter to cancer last year after 3 plus year battle. She got to watch her high school son finish his sports seasons and almost got to see him graduate. She, like your mom is a sweetheart. I am even less worried about passing, because I know I'll see her again in Christ. Prayers that your mom will have many, many quality days to bless those around her, as I can tell she does.

Man thank you for this video and leaving your Mom in it. She reminds me of my mother, she loved God and told anybody who would listen how great he is. She passed away from cancer about 2 years ago and let me tell you she was fearless. Like the toughest soldier in the world couldn't touch her. She knew exactly where she was going no fear and no doubt in her mind. Just want to say cherish all the time you have with your mom man and make the most of it. Thank you also for the videos. You helped my career so much. I send everybody I can your way. I was looking for training to get to the next level but couldn't afford to not work and go to school and this was just what I needed. Paul your Mom looks great, I am sorry to hear she has cancer, My wife Sarag has lung cancer, my wife (Sarah)is not a very good fighter, at one time she was a good fighter, but she lost her mom, then a few years later lost her only Daughter (Jennifer ) and i think she just lost the will, all she does is lie in bead, I have taken up her role, I can say Sarah did a better job at it. Installing new injectors will not fix the car.. you have to clean all the fuel lines and change them if you have too ..also the fuel tank and the low pressure pump.. water intrusion can cause oxydation to the pump and make it wear internally.. so before placing a new pump you have to be sure that water is not going to be mixed with the fuel

Mike Becker did a high pressure fuel pump replace this week. Good video. The first part of the procedure was to relieve the high fuel pressure in the rail, something you didn’t have to do.

Wow sorry about your mom’s diagnosis. Heartbreaking for sure. Regarding 3 injectors failing, I suspect contaminants in fuel preventing injectors from closing- just happened not to affect #4. I’d change fuel filter, possibly even drop and clean tank.

Most likely there's not a serviceable fuel filter on this car. My wife's 2016 Escape had the filter part of the fuel pump as well as my daughter's 2012 Escape.

This video is without a doubt the best explenation you'll ever hear about GDI injection. I've had the same issue on a BMW DI engine. It was not stock, it ran high horsepower on only the dirct injectors. Injector 6 was stuck open. Didn't notice it straight away. Until after cooling it down it smoked 5x more than this Ford on start up. O2 sensor noticed the extra fuel and leaned out the rest. Nr2 piston had ringland damage. Bad luck..

ford tech here. very easy to diagnose. ignore any flow charts you find. look at FRP desired V actual. on a good system engine warm koeo after running the pressure will RISE due to engine heat/fuel temp. if it does rise the system is ok. if fuel pressure falls, pull up CYL ACCL on the logger and start engine after pressure has fallen. the cylinders showing negative acceleration have bad injectors. I do this diag 3-4 times a week and it never lets me down.

Done a bunch of sticking open direct injectors, not more than one unless they were contaminated by metal or fuel issues. Super easy to watch the fuel pressure degrade rapidly after turning the engine off and also trims all out of wack.

A little late to this one... First, hope your mom is doing well. Seems like a lovely lady. Second, to go along w/ theories of all injectors going bad...you have to look at the chain of events. I've been in the grind for 40+ years and most times one injector will ghost out, not all at the same time. Same goes with coils. Grilling the client helps tremendously. Who's to say she just filled up the gas tank, then this happens. Know where I'm going? The gas, for whatever reason, might have caused this, or something in the gas tank. I have had water knock out electric fuel pumps. Love the videos. Keep 'em comin.

I will watch it again before I stick my foot in my mouth too far 🤪 Thanks. Edit: Love this video, as well as pt.2. I am never too old to learn. In fact I have learned a lot just by watching your videos. Others too, like the great Bernie Thompson. Hopefully I will fulfil my dream of having a working school. Have the classroom in the morning, then in the afternoon have them work in a shop environment making money. Yes, this is what I want to do. Training is sorely missing in this industry. People just starting out are thrown to the wolves and learn bad habits that are very hard to break.

Hello Paul, I hope you're doing well. Sorry about your mother. I hope she gets better and well. My dad who also had multiple myeloma back in 2015 battled with it for about 5 years. Unfortunately, he passed away last year in June 2020 from cardiac arrest. He was 78. He had multiple health issues. He was doing pretty well fighting the disease along with doing chemotherapy and multiple treatments. Keep those videos coming it's always good to be learning something new. God bless and may God keep you and your family.

Paul your mom is really great, lost my father at 59 from renal cell blood cancer 8 years ago, spend as much time as you can with her. I m a master mechanic for kia we have problems with high pressure fuel pumps leaking in crankcase causing same problems. Also brother been following you for a while you been hitting weights definitely looks like you've pumped up.

@@kevinclubb3558 I take no supplements, and since I am 48 now and my joints ache, I don't go heavy at all anymore. Just been doing circuit training with little rest between sets. I will do 3 sets of some exercise for these main groups (legs, back, shoulders, chest, biceps, triceps, abdominals), so 7 different groups, 3 sets each (21 total sets) and I try to do this 3 times a week. I also mix up the exercises, ex: chest may just be 3 sets on the incline bench or just regular pushups, legs may be reverse lunges or squats etc etc. Changing it up and not letting your muscles get accustomed is key. Then I also play hockey and stuff for my cardio, plus I rest very little between sets so I'm getting cardio there too. 45 minutes at the very most for the 21 sets or if I am only doing 2 sets each (14 total sets) this is a 30 minute workout, no longer!

Really enjoy your diagnostic thought process and your down to earth love of life and your honest appreciation of family. Having been a fuel Injection specialist for the past 35 years with a flow bench,it is very unlikely to have multiple Injectors fail simultaneously. It is usually bad fuel or tampering with the fuel tank.I work with our provincial motor vehicle and have reported on three separate cases of contamination by some disgruntled partner or kids having a 'kick'! I always suggest in these cases that the owners fit a good locking gas cap. Sugar does not disolve in Gasoline, Ice melt does and is highly corrosive and common sand/dirt is a disaster too.

You know I just found your channel but the teaching is awesome it really is I'm on 40 years old I've been doing you know working on vehicles all my life I'm not certified mechanic but you know certifiable LOL! But your videos brother are extremely informative and there's a lot of people out there that watch your videos especially everybody I know cuz I turn them on to your videos I like the way you break it down you got a great teaching method!
