Thank you for watching our ear wax removal video today. The ear wax extraction featured in todays video was carried out using endoscopic microsuction. This procedure uses a small camera called an endoscope to visualise inside the ear canal whilst a small suction tube is inserted to gently remove ear wax.
We can also use other tools to remove hard ear wax, foreign bodies, peeling dead skin or for ear infection removal.
All the ear wax cleaning videos you see on our channel are carried out by our ear wax specialists Mr Rhys Barber and Mr Taylor Green at Audiology Associates.

Ear wax plays a vital role in ear health. It helps to prevent ear infection and helps with ear cleaning by picking up any dirt or debris that accumulates in the ear canal. Normally this ear wax would fall out of the ear taking any dirt or debris with it.
How to remove ear wax?
Many people use q-tips/cotton buds for ear wax removal at home this is one of the worst things you can put into the ear as this can lead to an increased ear wax buildup or in extreme cases impacted ear wax. The best way to remove ear wax is to let your ears clean themselves and not to put anything smaller than your elbow in your ears!
How do I know if I have an earwax blockage?
If you experience a change in your hearing, discomfort in the ear or jaw or a feeling of fullness in the ear canal you may have an ear wax blockage. Our advice is to speak to your Doctor or local Audiologist who can take a look in your ears and assess whether ear cleaning is needed.

Oh my goodness that poor guy that had to be so uncomfortable. Putty was a great reference for it. You know Rhys you would make a phenomenal Professor! You're so great at explaining what is going on whether it be medical terminology or "layman's terms" and you have a great speaking voice. You may find more women with dry ears as well. During and after menopause many women find that their skin becomes dryer everywhere - which would include the ear canals. Also, prescriptions for hypertension often include a diuretic to reduce the chance of fluid collecting around the heart. Pills are not site-specific; and so diuretics will remove moisture from everywhere. If you're an older woman *and* you've been prescribed pills that include a diuretic, you're getting a double-whammy on the lack of moisture problem. Older women often complain of very itchy ear canals. Lack of moisture is the culprit and will make migration of the skin layers from within the ear canal a problem.

I so enjoyed looking at your website. I wish I was planning a trip over to see you. Excited to learn that Rhys specializes in noise induced hearing loss which I believe this is from what I suffer. Audiologists in my neck of the woods tend to really push expensive hearing aids and I just can’t do it. Plus their office visits are outrageously expensive.

I used to struggle with ear infections in my ear canal caused by eczema, had a really bad infection in 2014 and since then the ear that was affected produces no wax and virtually no natural oil at all anymore. My right ear gets very dry just like that persons - thank you for the Olive oil tip!

My boss was an ENT and we used an endoscope to visualize the larynx, among other things, and at the last ½ inch or so of the tip could bend. The control was a lever by the thumb. Maybe you should invent a similar scope tip like that - it would still be firm and inflexible to allow you to use it to hold the EAM open, but could also look beyond curved canals.

There is no direct line of sight to the eardrum because of the bends therefore they protect the eardrum from direct injury
