Simply because the reciprocal space vector is the inverse of the real space vector. E.g. 1/a*=a (for cubic cells)

​​@@fleurdepapaye9635taking reciprocal helps better understand the large number of parallel planes in real lattice, bcz they're all represented by one single vector in reciprocal space
