I went to the Aveda Institute of East Lansing Michigan in 2014 and had a lot of ups and downs. This school is only a good choice if you are 100% set on making the most of every lesson good or bad. I had wonderful instructors but personally felt like just another number a lot of the time. There was very little room for creativity because lesson plans were strict and old school. As a student you are being groomed to work for a Douglas J salon vs the beauty industry as a whole. Teachers were extremely rushed checking you out with clients. For obtaining a cosmetology license and instructor license the school is paying extremely low between $13-18per hour. If the schools would like to improve I believe they should hold a graduation ceremony every 4-6 months instead of booting the students when they finish their hours. They should stop allowing students to except board required hours based on doing laundry instead allow the students to work on exciting beauty services. Overall I am grateful I got to attend. I believe the schools will improve if they start making their students wellbeing a priority. They do not allow their students to accept tips yet allow their customers to pay the schools for every service. It’s a genius business because the schools are getting free labor. Plus getting paid by their students to attend. Know what you’re getting into. They did prepare me for state boards I will give them that.

I used to live and teach I. Florida and was originally licensed in Alabama…..so 1st…. Florida Board of Cosmetology and Barbering does NOT require those who “facilitate” In post secondary schools to obtain a Teaching or Instructor License in Their field 2nd the school and owners should be reported to the US Dept of Education with a formal complaint because it is FRAUD for schools to receive any TITLE IV funds for any period of time for students to be actively engaged in any INSTRUCTION without the licensed facilitator/barber/Cosmetologist physically monitoring students while “on the clock” 3rd.. check with the schools accrediting body because if their curriculum was NOT or is currently approved for online instruction then the hours for Those days/weeks can be invalidated for the total of the 1000 or 1200 hr program needless to say they are being literally short changed on various area of their education and the SCHOOL partners and Aveda corporation both are to blame Funny students should keep All records of the “absences” of their instructors as a form documentation because negligence on part of The school is a reason to have their loans forgiven

Instructors barely make $20/hr you can make more than that preforming the service yourself. I had the same thing happen when I was in school over a year ago.

This reminds me of school! 😂 A different career field, we also went without a teacher for awhile! We were not back in class for quite some time for our program. I am glad they had the courage to take this to the news, my class was not.

I’ve been a cosmetology educator for a few years now and the downfall has to do with the low pay, lack of supplies for students and educators, favoritism among the upper heads, limitations on what to teach, and little to no accountability from the students that aren’t really there to learn. Hopefully it will improve if educators get better pay and schedules as well as more supplies. It’s a great career and opportunity for teaching can be very rewarding if it’s done correctly by the institution.

For each day you don’t have instructor you deduct one day of money paid in tuition!

Same thing is happening at Aveda Institute Brandon. They have no staff, they get mad at students for not knowing certain skills yet they never teach them. They preach diversity yet they don’t teach anything about textured hair so when they do get clients that are poc no one knows how to do their hair.

Lack of instruction at Paul Mitchell Cosmetology School's too. Instructors are very unprofessional and abandons the struggling student. Also Paul Mitchell School's curriculum is very unorganized and you are expected to learn a certain technique in one day. Honesty, I didn't learn nothing, I turned to youtube because Instructors can't teach! they were aways hiding gossiping rather than helping. I shouldn't be chasing them for a damn maniquin sign off!!!!!!

I am an Aveda cosmetology student now; I remember when they came in and everyone thought it was a positive piece… then when everyone found out bout why they were there and we were all happy. Thats the barber program… you should see cos program. Actually you should see the entire new barber program and leadership after this story went out. And yeah $20,000… i pay 835 a month.. not covered by fafsa….

They're not cutting tuition because a lot of those students are on financial aid from the government and the beauty schools have discovered a way to take most of that financial aid.
