School janitors are so underrated, glad the kids actually noticed this mans love for them

On my elementary school we had a man who always made lemonade for us, got us candy and gave us art lessons. (Without being paid, it was his "hobby") His name was Ed. Everyone called him Uncle Ed. When i was in 7th grade. He got sick, very sick. He got into a weelchair. His "Sidekick" a woman who always helped him with his "hobby" pushed the weelchair. It was heartbreaking. In 8th grade he received a Ribbon by the mayor of our town. A few weeks after he passed away. He was truly a hero.

My Papa was a school custodian and the kids at his schools loved him so much. This really made me emotional. I miss you Papa

I will never forget my elementary janitor Mr.Lee. He went above and beyond his paygrade to make students happy. He knew I would very rarely bring anything to eat for lunch so he used to take me into his office and give me half of his sandwich and steamed rice. I hope that wherever he is today that he is in a good place.

Good for him. I was cop for 27 years, my last day I shook a couple hands of people who just happened to be there. Other than that, no recognition, nothing. Walked out the door and that was it, almost like I was never there. Recognition means a lot.

I’m about to turn 39 and i still remember my elementary school janitor, Mr. Simcox, just the nicest guy. Always had a funny joke and smile for you.

That’s a day Rocky will never forget.

This is why he loves it there. They are all such sweet kids. In my elementary school we had this pair of custodians. 1 was tall and goofy looking(his ears were huge) and one short stout dude. They would pulls pranks on each other during the day, sung when we all came in and lined up to go to class, and when we left they waved us good bye and stood outside with us. When we graduated they got dressed up but stood his their signature stance. The tall guy leaned on a broom and the short one leaned against the way crossed armed. Each graduation they gave a speech. Its been 10 years and I can still see them standing there.

As a former teacher I can tell you these custodians have the pulse of the school in their hands. They know all of us and are never too busy to chat or help you with your day. Or custodian got to know me and my family, my student troubles and always made proud of what I did. I looked forward to seeing them everyday 💜💜💜

The way children should behave and show respect for good people. There’s something going on in the school that is very right it’s wonderful to see children raise so well.

Kudos to these kids for recognizing people in life who are underappreciated. I'll never forget our Alamo Heights High School janitor. He was an old black man, a WWII vet who still had Japanese wooden bullet fragments in his knee (because they ran out of lead). Huge dude, humble, kind to us all, and respected by absolutely everyone. Marteen. It's been a long time, but he certainly is not forgotten.

this is why i tell my kids no matter what you decide to do in this life, do it with love, compassion and vigor. you dont have to be a person in a powerful position to touch someone's life. i'm grateful for people like rocky who might not have the most glamorous job, but still uses it to touch and shape so many lives.

We did something similar for our janitor my senior year. I don’t think he realized how much of an impact he had on our school until that day. He was brought to tears. one of the most hardworking and kind person I’ve ever met. I went to a small school and he knew most of us by name and he’d always be talking to a student and never failed to make someone laugh. I feel like most janitors are underrated

We had a favorite janitor back when we were in elementary school. His name was Doug. (The teachers and administration called him "Douglass.") The boys would act out a little in class so they could go spend the day helping "Dougie." (The area was affluent; custodial work was considered punishment.) My brother was frequently one of the little boys helping Dougie. Here in Birmingham, Alabama, during the mid-70s, race relations were still mending. But we children were colorblind. Dougie is the one member of the school faculty whom we children loved best. My brother has asked me throughout my teaching career if we are lucky enough to have another "Dougie." Sadly, the answer has remained no for decades. Great custodians, but they tend to keep to themselves.

Rocky is seriously blessed with that much love around him every day.

I've never met Rocky, but I couldn't stop the tears. I could feel how much he loved by the responses he received from the students. People like Rocky are abundant among us, but often overlooked.

3:30 warmed my heart so much and made the tears POUR out. This is a great community and school, so glad they could make this guys year and let him know how much he is appreciated.

My dad worked as custodian at my school. The school loved him. Watching this video makes me tear up. Just wonderful to see students love and thank the people who in some places go unnoticed. I'm sure Rocky's family was very happy to see this happen!!

I am a custodian. I find this wonderful. I don't clean a school, but a lot of city municipal buildings.

This reminds me of a really nice custodian who everyone had known since they started attending the schools in our district. He would ask us what was wrong, cheer us up and even gave little toys and everything for being good. Last year (my junior year of high school) he was found in one of the grade schools, he was no longer with us. What had happend was that he had either had a heart attack while on a ladder and had fallen and hit his head or the other way around. Since my district is a small one everyone knew within 2 days. People later found out that he had no relatives or wife. So a bunch of people from my district attended his funeral. we knew then why he treated us like his own kids, he didn't have any. This man remembered everyones name until his final day. R.I.P Mr. Lee

Reminds me of my elementary school janitor named Charlie. Everyone loved him because he was just an old man who liked to join in on school plays. He was very friendly!!! I hope he’s doing well

The joy on that mans face when he has the ball in his hand and jumping with all the kids around him brought me to tears.. that was a humbling moment and so many good people go unnoticed normally very grateful to see this

i think it's important to teach our kids to appreciate what they have and not be so concerned about what they can get. This group is helping to do that. Thank you!

One of my favorite teachers once told me: ‘One must tell people that you love them every opportunity you have’. These kids did just that, and that meant a lot to the person who really deserved it. I hope everybody learned a little from this.

When I was at school in the 1970s, the gardener knew I was interested in plants. One day he gave me my first potted plant. The School fired him. How barbaric they were.

As a teacher of 22 years I have learned that if you want or need anything just ask the custodians, they can accomplish anything. Always left Christmas gifts for our custodian Laurie, she took such good care of our classrooms! Bless Rocky, he is truly loved and appreciated.

This makes me feel so good, being in the cleaning business myself its such a thankless job and nobody seems to notice or appreciate you so for this guy to get this much love its overwhelming. Just seeing a fellow custodian/janitorial/cleaner personnel get this much recognition is amazing.

We had this one janitor at school where even though he'd sometimes forget to eat lunch and I'd always wanted to give something in return. Sadly he died recently and I regret that I wasn't able to give something in appreciation to all the things he did when he was alive. We love you manong rey 💜

This is so amazing to see that the kids notice their is someone who cares about them. In school we had more than just teachers that cared and did an amazing job I dont even think these people know how much of an impact they put on the students or realize that they are remembered through out the years. Example my school crossing guard me and my siblings have been out of elementary school for 42 yrs we still remember the first day we met the cross guard she greeted every child as if they were her own. the elementary music teacher always had a caring heart the speech teacher amazing women who I found her daughter on facebook not long ago and let her know how much her mother meant to not only me but to the entire class. High school gym coach she made all of us want to take gym, the Music theory teacher who was young but made a great impression on each and everyone of us. The NJROTC instructor who you knew he cared the janitor who always made it a point to greet the students you knew it was more than just a job.

The best moment in my life is when children chanted my name like this video. It fills my heart till this day. I was a preschool teacher then, now I am in college to become an elementary teacher. I truly love children and plan on being a second mom to all the babies. 💕

At the emementery I used to go to i was there until middle school and the janitor there was the best person you will ever meet and everyone loved him so much. When I got to 5th grade half way through I stopped seeing him walking around and now I still don't know where he is, but we forever love him.

Being a school employee is not always about the paycheck, but letting those kids know they are loved no matter what. This is how you change things. Love, kindness, and compassion.

When I was in elementary school, I struggled in kindergarten and first grade with sitting still and staying patient amongst my classmates because of my ADHD. It was the mid 90s so it was still kind of a lesser diagnosed thing with kids, I don’t remember many other classmates until I got older ever really understanding it or being diagnosed with it. But in my school, they created a program where kids that struggled like I did, got to spend a block of time each day doing things with the maintenance guy that worked at the school. Doing things like delivering milk to the kindergarten kids, cleaning balls and objects that got tossed onto the roof, etc. Just random things to get me out of class. And I got to know him, and the two ladies that ran the school cafeteria very well. They became family to me for those years and I stayed in touch with them throughout my grade school years. These people are under appreciated for the care they have for the students and are often overlooked when it comes to part of the school system. I appreciated having them as part of my circle for those years. They helped me become who I am today.

We had a custodian, when I was in elementary everyone loved and he loved us. The school board made him retire because of his age. He passed away the next day do to a broken heart. We all were his children.

So happy to see them honored instead of laughed at, like happens all too much. Good for these kids and their school for thinking and honoring him! Well done!

My elementary janitor came to my moms funeral, I freakin lost it! He was her distant neighbor growing up, till she got pregnant and she moved. I heard stories about him my whole life!! They were friends an loved pranking every one! People matter, never knowing what they do to positivity effect people. Give goodness a chance 🙌🏽💕🙏🏽 He’s still working at 74😇

This is what we need a hell of a lot more of. I kind of remember the guys janitors back when I was in school. I always felt bad for them. They had to clean up after one of us got sick. Not a Job I would want to do cause I would have gotten sick. But what these kids are doing is really awesome. We need so much more of this. Stop looking down at people for a job they are doing. Cause you don't know that person at all you don't know what happened in his or her life. That it's the only job they can do. I have had 2 major back surgeries now I can't get a job because I am a high risk at getting hurt again insurance companies will not let company hire me. So you see you just don't know what is going on in a person's life. These kids are so damn awesome and Rocky you are the man.
