Then why is it centered around a sketch comedy show instead of a "Daily Show" type show? The sketches in the show are not funny, even if a 30 Rock's TGS with Tracy Jordan type of way. If the show DID want to succeed, make the sketches either REALLY funny or so unfunny its funny. But the characters act like they are making high quality art and its just mediocre...which IS a funny idea but the execution falls flat. Outside of the sketches, everything seems to match the sketches which are slow and laborious. Aaron's show have a rapid pace to them but nothing here is like his signature style. I understand when everything is slow but the sketches are vastly overwritten and the show outside of it is fine, on its own, but it creates a tonal shift that, I'm sorry, you can't have. I understand the fanbase here, I do and I really wanted to like this show, however, there is a reason why 30 Rock lasted longer. It's because 30 didnt actually pretend like it was the next big thing. I feel the pretentiousness from this show turned me off. There is a line in the series "That's swell Tom, but YOUR LITTLE BROTHER IS STANDING IN THE MIDDLE OF AFGHANISTAN!" that stands out. It's hilarious in 30 Rock but it's unintentionally funny on here. This show isn't a sitcom, I understand that, but if it didn't really show the sketches, that were not great, it could have lasted. There are good moments here, just none that stand out to me or others. @@gabrielabagala
@@marcen12 I agree with you. I think Sorkin should have hired other writers to write the sketches. Sorkin doesn't seem to know how to write comedy (at least these types of sketches). The show for me was very good, the actors were good and the director too. But I agree 100% that if they decided to show the sketches (which is understandable), they should have been written by people who know how to write that type of comedy. Same thing, Harriet was supposed to be a great singer and in the 2nd episode she sings a little bit, horribly. They should have dubbed her if the actress couldn't sing well enough.
@@gabrielabagala or they could have played the horrible singing for laughs. Sing horribly yet everyone loves it in the show. The satire could have worked. But yes, the pieces were there but the execution fell flat. I can see why people like the show but, even if 30 Rock didn't exist, it still would have that same fate.
