This informative video is a rare find!! I've been watching many tutorials showcasing many DAWS, and this has really focused on the specifics of the Virtual Instruments in Studio One. Max, you have really clarified for me, what I have been grappling with all these years about Studio One daw, (which I have). I've let it sit for so long, going back to 'give it another try,' only to leave it alone as I was frustrated with the lack of progress I was making, for not being able to get a good - basic foundation - of the 'terminology' and 'functionality' of the Vi's. Your instruction was 'on point', and so 'easy to understand.' Thank you so much for your time!!

Great intro to the topic. Nothing really new to me but it is always good to hear those concepts well explained. Still I have a question: If you already have a good polyphonic synth like presence what reason can I have to need a monophonic one?
@maxkonyi
@maxkonyi 3 года назад
Good question. Presence is a sampler, not a synth, so it only deals in playing back audio recordings. Mai Tai is a polyphonic synth. Mojito is the monophonic synth and does have some functionality that is unique to it, however, I can't say I ever use it. Mai Tai is perfect for most synth needs 👌

Hey Max... Thanks to your excellent video, I was able to import some melody notes and chords (created as wave files in Guitar Pro 7) and magically transform them into an amazingly realistic acoustic piano track using Presence XT Core keyboards. Now I would like to use the same basic technique using Presence XT Core Percussion and Vocals. The Presonus description says there are only three "articulations" available (Hah, Huh, Hmh). That's OK, however, as that is what I want... I want human voices singing "choir like" to sing the notes. I'm struggling a little, however. Do you know of any RU-vid videos that specifically target the voice part of "Presence XT Core Percussion and Vocals". I can't seem to find any. Again... Thanks for the great video!

@herrunsinn774 4 года назад
Max, while I very much enjoyed your video, you seemed to skip a very important step at the very beginning. That is (if I am understanding what I'm seeing on the screen correctly), you have already (apparently) created several "virtual instruments" tracks (as displayed on the far left). You didn't show how that was done, but rather started working with some tracks you already had created. For those of us never having used virtual instruments, you need to show us how to create those tracks from the very beginning... then (and only then) does it make sense to go ahead and demo how to use them.
@maxkonyi
@maxkonyi 4 года назад
Hello Herr, Thank you for comment-I appreciate you taking the time to give feedback. As you may know, this video is part of a course and was originally designed to be done in a certain order (this was before the decision to upload to RU-vid was made). The various ways to create instrument tracks are covered in a later video found here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dz05t_o5zEk.html At the time of making this series, it seemed best to include that info only when it was actually time to put it into practice during the tasks given throughout the course. Now, however, I agree with you and think the info should have been placed in this video. Live and learn! New videos will be on the way since Studio One V5 was just released so I may get a chance at redemption 😇

Hi, very useful video. I have a question. I just installed my studio one 6, works fine except 2 things. There is a very annoying hissing background noise and I cant get rid of it. The other thing. I have a few virtual instrument plug ins. If I drag one a pull it into a track, how can I play those instruments? I only hear the sound of my digital piano. So can I control the virtual instruments with the audio connected digital piano, or do i need separate midi controller? Thank you, Tom
@maxkonyi
@maxkonyi 10 месяцев назад
1). The background hiss must be in your audio system somewhere. Either from your interface, your speakers, or something electrical getting into the system. Do you hear the hiss when Studio One is not open? 2). Your digital piano may have MIDI capability. You'll need to check the manual to see if that requires a USB cable or a MIDI to USB cable. Audio cables won't work for sure!

@@maxkonyi Hi, thank you for your reply. Yes I hear the hissing noise when the studio one is not open. The noise getting louder if I turn the main knob up on the interface. I checked the piano and has usb midi port, so should I connect the piano straight to the pc with usb cable to use the virtual instruments in the studio one?
@maxkonyi
@maxkonyi 10 месяцев назад
@@creativekeyspianostudio6695 Ok so the hissing may be generated by your interface. Does it have separate power source or just USB? I've had similar issues in the past with various students. Yes, connect the piano using USB and then select it as an External Device in S1. I have a video in this series which explains how to do that.

It excels at pad sounds, leads, rhythmic chords, and many other synth duties."

Hey Brett, I believe the modeling part may refer to the "Character" parameter found within Mai Tai. It seems to be some kind of impulse response thing that imparts a specific frequency balance onto the spectrum. There is nothing within the current version of Mai Tai that resembles an actual modeling synth...
