You are absolutely right Michael. The ideal listening setup is with the crossover point between the tweeter and bass driver facing directly at the ears. However, Studio Rescue is all about making the most of the space and equipment that you have available, when the ideal setup is not always immediately possible. The EVENT Opals have an advanced waveguide that helps to widen the sweet spot when listening at less than ideal positions, but some well placed speaker stands would help! Well spotted!

Francis uses velcro tape to stick foam acoustic panels to the walls, although you might have some trouble getting them off later on without damaging your paint. If you get in touch with Primacoustic, they should be able to tell you the best way to mount your particular panels without damaging your walls.

The Flexi Wall is made by a company call 'Vicoustic'. we can't post links in the comments section (youtube limitation) but if you search for Vicoustic on Google, their page should be one of the top results. You'll be able to view their list of USA dealers from there.

@jobbitydun In such a small space reflections and standing waves are going to be an issue so good sound treatment is essential. The first place to treat is at the point along the wall of first reflection, (there's some great tips in Studio Rescue for finding this). The second thing to look at is sound de-fusion at the back wall, and finally I would want to look at bass traps in the corners. Good luck and thanks for watching!

Actually glass works as a free reflector, so this room is kinda ideal to make a studio in. wood planks and rock wool will work better than those foam pads any day though!

@jobbitydun 8' X 6'6" whilst not being ideal is more than enough for a mixing space, it compares to the type of size room broadcast audio deals with on a day to day basis in their outside broadcasts trucks. The speaker placement should be along the 6'6" length at least 1" away from any wall. This would give a space between the speakers of 4'6" which should be a good distance to create an equilateral triangle between the listening spot (where you are sitting) and the two speakers.

Hi Mr. Buckley, I am setting up my own studio currently in a nice sized room I have in my basement! I have to say its really helped me watching your videos. As it turns out you are actually my second cousin if you can believe it. My mother is your cousin Susan "Susy" Carroll. Its really awesome seeing a relative doing somthing me and my older brother share a passion with. Please keep the videos coming they are swell. And my mom says "Hello".

You can hear in the video, room acoustics still sound bad even after application of $500 worth of foam, sure looks neat though.
@redmarvandersluys9691
@redmarvandersluys9691 7 лет назад
Yeah noticed that too. Before they put it up you could clearly hear reflections, so I was really wondering what it would sound after they put up the panels. Although it helped a bit, it still wasn't that much better imo.

it is nice, but there is one thing that goes for most of the home studios in this series that i don't like. i get that the sound monitors have to be at the height of your ears, but the computer screen doesn't need to be there. it is uncomfortable to look upwards all the time and bad for your neck and back. the natural position implies looking slightly downwards. tell me what do you think
@rodemic

@JonChicagoDeepGarcia Thanks Jon. We're accepting applications for the second season now via the link in the video description, and are looking to premiere it later this year.

@AlexVictorEverett It is. Basically in any normal room you want to absorb as much bass frequencies as you can, because frequencies from, say 40 to 300 Hz is in the modal region where sound waves develop standing waves. This results in local reinforcement and cancellation of frequencies that can be as high as 20-30 db and the dips can be very, very low (in theory sound pressure at the cancellation points is zero) dips. Any amount of bass you can absorb makes the room acoustically bigger.
@andynonimuss6298
@andynonimuss6298 5 лет назад
No, it's not called an apex. It's called a vertex. And your head and ears are not at that point. The Stereo Vertex Point (the focused point where the speakers are aimed behind your head) should be 14" min. to 16" max. behind your Listening Position (ear line).

I'm buying a house and moving into it in May 2020. There's a TuffShed in the back that I'd like to turn into a recording studio. It's a little bigger than 9'x11' inside. I have several years of experience as a hobby-level music recordist and voice actor, but want to make this space totally professional. It would be GREAT if your Studio Rescue team would come out and make it happen. I'm in southeast Kern County, California, about an hour north of Los Angeles. We could make a super-great video together. LLAP!

Work with what you have available. Maybe get Acoustica Mixcraft or FL Studio and learn to work with those. The demos are free and you can train on that, then when you get some money maybe buy Cubase or Pro-tools and you should already be set to go. :D

Isn't the ideal height for the speakers to be parallel tweeter-ears? Plus when we calculate height we neve take into account how much we coil forward and loose the sweetspot. Also, in my opinion, the equilateral angle of the listener to calculate the speaker position should be measured around 12-16 inches behind so the sides of this triangle cut perfectly your ear
