The new studio looks amazing, I bet the matching glass, unified LUTs and the screening cinema are contributing to the amazing look. I can't quite tell though, as I am watching this on a 10 year old LCD tablet while sitting on the can, but I'm sure it looks amazing and was really worth it!

You should do a mic test and show 3 different mics. But we only ever hear one actual mic. And watch all the votes go in “ahhhh B was better. No C was better.” Lol. ALL of those sounded fine on my blown out iPhone speaker. :p

Great to see the new set. Thanks for posting. Some feedback. Lighting seems a bit flat in some of the shots. Also, I think the desk skirt would be better if it wasn't gray. Dark hardwood color would be better IMO. Lastly, I would use an elgato multiport HDMI card in your PC and put a stream deck XL on the desk to switch camera views from your desk. That way you don't have to get up to change camera views and there is a ton of flexibility using a stream deck to control lighting and other "effects".
Content is all. Its nice to see something oriented towards interaction with other people. Not like we're lacking tube lighted tech/gear talking heads reciting spec sheets. Also, I humbly think that creative editing (the NAB trip for example :) ) is what will make content creators stand out among the vast majority that wants to be DPs.
I think the setup looks quite tight - all the elements in the shot are pretty big and the chairs and table seem to be rather close to the wall, making it look flat.. atleast for my taste. Maybe you were going for a more neutral look, but making the wideshot feel more open would make a great improvement I think. Looking forward to new videos and guests nonetheless :)
I recently built a basement studio as well, and I ran into a few issues. Anything in particular you did to protect against "nature" stuff like flooding, pests, and the like?
Had it thoroughly inspected for leaks, investigated the area for flooding, etc. before moving in. Place has drains and sump pump in basement. Should be okay. *fingers crossed*, but kept as much off the floor as possible regardless. Pests: I got grass spiders running around down here like crazy. Inevitable.

As a new home owner with a basement studio, I have upgraded my sump pump setup massively to have a battery for those times when you need it most but the power is out. We had a pretty sizable flood in our basement a few years ago, and it certainly did some damage. Glad you're keeping all that in mind.
@@FutureChaosTV Yes, and also No! It is fair that something that costs around $1.7K USD is very good... that said - there are literally 1000s of expensive products that don't live up to the hype, cost or even basics of their intended function (kinda appalling when you stop & think about it)
The MKH 50 is one of the few products that I can say with no hesitation is absolutely worth its price point. It's very expensive, but it's the best mic I've ever used for indoor dialogue.
I love that at 1:13 when you said there is a microphone here, you were literally pointing to the "search with voice" mic on the RU-vid search bar on my screen

Great studio Gerald and it is quite incredible what you have done here. The orange floor flight on the 50mm shot is a bit distracting, maybe diffuse that to the wall somehow? Anyway, great stuff man. When I grow up I might get me one of those myself. 😄
I love your camera reviews because they are entertaining, but also a great technical resource for comparing cameras. I hope you'll continue to make that kind of content in addition to whatever else you've got queued up with this new setup. Also, I'm not a video/photo professional so never had any need to buy your cables, but with these new cables that have more general utility I'll probably be picking one of those up to show support! Question - Do you feel like you're giving up on things like raw external recording when going with the a7iv instead of a7s3 when it comes to the studio setup. What were the things about the a7iv that made you chose it as the main camera over a7s3/fx3 (or other cameras like panasonic s5ii)?
Thanks a lot! For me the a7 IV is the solution since I don't use the ProRes RAW options on Sony cameras, but I do enjoy the sharper image from the 7K oversampling. And since the camera is on a tripod, it's shortcomings in rolling shutter, etc. don't affect me. The same positives could be said about the S5 II, but I've got all the glass for Sony and feel comfortable on that system. The a7S III is a better run'n'gun camera, but I'm not running or gunning, so I can save money and get a slightly sharper image.
Love the different examples of mics, the MKH50 instantly sounded like 'your sound'. Loving the idea of a lav but the great sound from the MKH50 is hard to say no to.
Nice! Thanks for the summary of the new studio. The overhead shotgun mic is hands-down the best sounding for your voice... the lavs sound nasal and compressed... and the other sennheiser desk-mic sounds like too much room reverb.
Cool new setup Gerald!! The Sennheiser 441-U is great on a lot of stuff ( vocals, guitar, Drums, ect ) we have a couple originals from the late 70's still going strong every session we do. Just a heads up, treating the back purple wall first with something like the GIK Acoustics or others, will save you a ton of treatment on the rest of the room, instead of just knocking down the high end. Lots of patterns and colors available...including, of course, purple.
Thanks Gerald, a fresh start is nice! Question though, didn't see any overhead camera angles or anything that would be used for close-up or B-roll for product "type" videos. Do you not intend to do any content like that going forward or do you plan to just temporarily move some different cameras in place? Nicely done, must be so nice to be able to start from square one and build out the way you want! 🤙
So I was right last time. But still not sure new channel is coming or not :D. Great studio. The workflow is an overkill in my opinion, because as you said most people watch in on their phones on the toilet (not me). But having such workflow is really good for future outside of YT projects.
