We are alone in the studio today so for this small business vlog that means I will be in charge of Packing, Making and shipping! Soo...Lets get to work shall we!
🌸 It's been a rough start to the week as my husband and business partner was hospitalised, and Mike our brother in law is also on Holiday
🌿 That means it leaves just me in the studio, a little bit like the old days in the studio (does anyone remember that?)
📦 First up we need to print and make all of our products, from sublimating mugs to DTF tote bags
🌿 next up we need to pack the orders, so lets get cozy as we do a little pack order with me segment!
✅ Last but not least we can wrap up the studio vlog by shipping all the orders using royal mail!

For your packaging you should put the plastic bags with seal upside down and staple label at the top (of the bottom of the plastic bag) so that people can unseal the bag at the back bottom without having to remove your label at the top. :) (Makes it easier for the people opening & allows them to reuse the packaging for storage if needed)

When business is slow, it would be a good idea to make some detailed videos and written instructions on how each item is printed/made with all of the specifications so you can just go to the folder on your computer and view the video. Then you would never be at a loss as to how to use the flat heat press for the mugs.

You can still sell you Autumnal flower cards. Remember there is an Autumn twice a year, Northern and Southern hemispheres. When it’s Spring in UK, Europe, USA & Canada it’s Autumn in Southern Hemisphere, places like Australia and New Zealand, Central and South America, Southern African Continent. Just a thought. Also I live in the Southern hemisphere.

Loved the vlog- I've been watching for several years and this was a great throwback to when it was just you. Your business has grown a lot which is so great. I think you wrap too many things in tissue paper where it's not necessary. I wouldn't expect a mug box to be wrapped in tissue and it's already plenty cute with the stickers. I'd save the tissue paper for things like the pin holder in the box. ❤

i would love to be able to do like an apprenticeship or something and learn about owning your own business with a company and people who have the same vision as i do. it would literally be a dream. maybe something like that could help too, to have some extra help for when people are out. youre incredible and such an inspiration 💕

Love your videos! 🎀 I would suggest using customized paper bags/envelopes, with some very simple Katnipp print/pattern, to replace the tissue. You could order them in different sizes as well, if that would make the packaging faster. It would still look super cute and adorable! 💕

Yeah you just need to calculate the cost into shipping or products because these custom packaging items are very expensive compared to to regular packaging. And you have to generally invest a lot upfront (order large quantities) to make it affordable.

So happy Dean is better. Not for always necessarily, but it was nice to watch a solo video, it feels relatable and more intimate (ie., in the most non-intimate way 😂😂).

You need an instruction manual, so like a binder with clear sleeves in it that tell you how to make every product so anyone can do it. Makes it easy to edit or add instructions. So if someone comes in just for a day to help, then they can do it for you, in addition to if this scenario happens again.

hi catherine, i really love watching your packaging vlogs. only if you can and want to, hopefully you also release asmr packaging orders at normal speed. i'd really love that! kudos to you btw for pulling it off just by yourself like the old times. but i hope dean and mike are back by now. i also have eye twitch when i'm stressed. i had one recently when it continually twitched for a good 15 minutes. might have to look it up on how to make it go away. always looking forward to your uploads. excited for your xmas uploads! 🫶🫶🫶

Hi Catherine, regarding accurate colours, do you use colour calibration for your monitor? if not then I would highly recommend it, it will give you the confidence to know that what you are seeing on screen is accurate. These systems come in two parts, the software that displays various colours and things on screen, and a colorimeter which is a small optical sensor device that sits against your screen, there are many to choose from, this is the system that I use - Datacolor Spyder X2 Ultra I promise you once you go calibrated you won't want to go back :)

Hi Catherine, Happy that Dean is back at work. Good job on your orders. Just letting you know I've just come back from a trip to Italy, Austria and Croatia and my little companion was my Bumblebutt phone tag which stuck out of my pocket, giving me reassurance that I still had my phone. the designs for the flower collab need vectorizing. Or the master kept in colour layers, if not vectorized. The white edge on flower print packaging should just be able to be trimmed in the factory. And are the flower people going to clearly identify which colour system their next printer will be using?

Love your attention to detail when packing orders. to speed up the process you could only do tissue paper or the bubble bags for the mugs. I only one or the other and not had a problem. and not wrap the mug box in tissue paper, it's already cute with the sticker

If it helps, I buy big sheets of tissue and cut them in to quarters (multiple sheets at a time) and they line the large letter boxes perfectly. It doesn’t matter what is in the box, it gets folded over everything. Let me know if you would like me to send you a pic of what I mean. Danielle x

Soft proofing in photoshop is easy once you're over the learning curve. CMYK tends to dull all the colors and the box quality/paper color can't be helping that situation. (I bought & use the Spyder XPro but honestly my Mac stays pretty true. Soft proofing is your friend.)

So happy you’ve been getting a lot done and glad Dean is better. For the color issues, are you changing your designs to CMYK? Also, the paper that card place uses, is it matte? I have issues with matte paper as it makes my work so dull and unsaturated. Stuff with gloss makes it spot on in terms of vibrancy, maybe that could be a workaround? I have had issues outsourcing my work in the past and it’s frustrating when it’s way too dark or dull. I also have used sticker mule for my branded tape, they usually have sales this time of year, I got a massive roll that I’ve had for a while on sale for 9 dollars I believe.

I would skip tissue on the items that are already in a bag by themselves and just wrap the loose items, and maybe instead of tissue you could get small paper bags to put the loose items in instead of tissue. Would save a lot of time and a lot of extra packaging for the items that are already protected.

For the packaging, could you put an option at checkout for them to be wrapped nice, or an option to avoid the additional packaging like tissue paper? It saves you time AND saves the planet 🌎🤓 14:53
