The Obsession continues.... lol. So about you sticker paper dilemma I use the same typer of paper and I find using the Washi Tape setting works best. It cuts it just right. Hope that helps. Ok bye
Oh dear, such technical difficulties, such a pain! I appreciate that you share the good and the bad. Hang in there! I agree with Emily tho. An occasional cut through isn’t a show stopper. (Those zombies were your perfectionist mind tormenting you!)
Julie C. Heheheh IKR??!!! I need to remember I’m not a factory and everything is handmade so occasionally these things will happen heheh! Ps that nightmare was super scary Hahahah! 🙈😱🌸
I understand the perfectionist thing, my colours were slightly too yellow when I printed and I was going to re do everything but everyone was reassuring me that it was fine and I just know it’s not. Sometimes you just have to take a step back and think from someone else’s perspective instead of your own to decide if it really is worth while to put the effort it
I love love love your channel. So fun and inspiring! FYI...Online labels have a section on their website that gives you all the cricut settings for their different types of labels. I have followed their settings and have had success with the 2 types I have tried cutting in my cricut! :)
This is why my silhouette sits unused! I am such a perfectionist but lack the discipline to see it through that you have - well done Mrs, so inspirational going back through your journey 😘
Please don't worry about us, if people are willing to buy your products then they have to appreciate how much effort you go to and how long it takes from the planning side to the end result. You are right in getting to the best products for the job. Happy Valentines day from Ireland, x
Thank you for being so open and honest about your emotions. Your mental health is so important! Make sure you are taking the time that you need to take care of yourself. I completely understand the struggle with perfectionism, and I’m so glad that you have Emily there to encourage and help you! Love you lots 💕💕
Awwwwww I just wanted to reach through and give you a big hug when you were struggling on Tuesday night! I’m so glad you turned it around. You’re my fav part of Friday and I always love watching!! 😘😘😘
I am so happy to hear that you were able to get some rest and get back to your perky self. You weren't whining.... you were just telling it like it is.....computer issues are a nightmare & take a lot out of you. Burnout is a real issues, even for us non-creative people. Non-stop work, piled up with issues, is exhausting and takes a toll. Knowing to take a step back to breathe is vital. Take care of yourself, so you can enjoy what you do. Love your videos. :)
You poor thing! We all have days like these. It's like a gremlin gets in in the night and changes all the settings and nothing goes right! Keep smiling, tomorrow is always a fresh day with no mistakes. Love your videos!!
I love your channel. Please don't apologise for having bad days...it makes it more real for us to see that everything can't be perfect all the time. Keep doing what you're doing cause you are so so lovely. Xxx
You're making super cute and really beautiful things. You're inspiring and do really a lot of things! So don't be to hard on yourself 🥰. Being a perfectionist sometimes is like hell, but it's your own created hell 🙈. I always am struggling with treating myself nice and giving myself wat I need. Since last year I don't use my computer at home, ok sometimes to play the sims in the weekend 🤭. But no computer screen time for me at home. I allready work 40 hours a week behind the computer. So that's my rule for protecting myself. I now do hobby's I used to do and I'm trying to relax more and not to think all the time xd. But that's hard. It really helps for me to see what others do.
I really understand and identify with what you said! Getting the settings exactly right for cutting the stickers is really frustrating and creative burn out is hard to deal with. Rest and relaxation, as well as easing the pressure you put on yourself really help!💕
Hi Catherine, I just discovered your you tube channel yesterday. I have been binge watching since 😂 I love it!! Thank you for all your tip etc. I am so inspired xxx
Happy Valentine's day from wicked cold and snowy Maine, USA. Love the shares the good and the bad. We all have times when us creatives need to recharge, and the long winter months are the pits! It is cold, gray and draining on the creative juices. Just remember you are amazing (so is Emily!) and all of us here love your channel, content and products. We are all inspired by you and all you do
Thank you for sharing this. I loved the very real journey of frustrations and success. This business is hard and there are some days nothing seems to go right - glad that you're showing those days too! Glad everything turned out well!
I love how even when you’re upset, you’re still crazy motivating. You definitely remind me to slow down and relax. Not everything is a big deal. So thank you for showing that things don’t always go our way. And for showing how to remain in control. ❤️
*stops freelancing to watch the new vlog* :D ALSO! I got the Cries in COmic Sans Pin and stickers in the mail and they're INCREDIBLE!! I love them so much!! Thank you!! I'm going to leave a review on etsy as soon as I figure out how haha! Honestly you say bits are going to be 'boring' but honestly I'd watch hours of you cutting out stickers and packing orders in the vlog with just some music over the top, it's so calming!! Love your videos as always!!
Leaving reviews on Etsy is so difficult and confusing. I’ve found the easiest way is to wait until Etsy emails you asking you to leave a review! Then you can do it straight from that email and it’s really simple
Been watching for a while but never commented. You are so inspiring please keep sharing the low days as well as the highs and don't apologise, I absolutely love your honesty ❤️❤️
Suuuuch an inspiration 🙌🏼 filmed, edited and uploaded all on the same day! Plus running a business, plus being an honest and transparent person! You’re such an amazing person to watch and aspire to be! 💖
I SOOO can empathize with techy issues. It's so frustrating when you can't solve them easily. When I have to deal with these things, I think of how my dad would fix machinery. He would step back and think of it logically and deduce what all could be interfering. For me, this helps me take a step back and pretend I'm him and look at the situation from a logical problem-solver perspective. It's not natural for me but it works! You conquered it!!
I've been there too. I regularly drive myself nuts with my perfectionism! It's really hard to take a step back and be okay with things not turning out 100% how you want.
I’m so glad everything worked out and you took a much needed break! I’m a SAHM to 3 little boys, and an aspiring illustrator, so taking a break for my mental health is super important. You can’t pour from an empty cup 💕💕 love you!!
Catherine, I so relate to the burnout! I always feel like ai have a million projects going at once and it can be super overwhelming ESPECIALLY when running into technical problems and such. I am so glad you are recognizing when you feel this way and are taking care of yourself! You are such an inspiration and I am excited to see your newest creations!
So glad you took a half day and felt better sweets! We don’t need you burning out on us. Give us story time! Might make you feel even better and help others! Xoxo
Don't ever apologise for putting yourself first.. As a small business owner I totally get it. You always feel guilty when you switch off but its really really necessary. Your fabulous! don't forget xx
I had a similar issue with my Epson and dealing with thick vinyl sticker paper...I know we don't have the same printer models...but have you checked the settings within the printer itself, I found mine to have a thick paper setting that needs to be set in order for it to pull the thicker paper through...which I find to be a tad bit ridiculous..but it helped me. And considering you have an Epson, I cannot help but wonder if all the models have the same stupid setting....glad you got your stickers printed on the thin paper...but in case you wanted to test out the thicker paper...I thought I'd share this information. Stay awesome lady! PS. Which sticker paper do you use from onlinelabels...I know you've mentioned it in the past...and was hoping to see if I'd find it in the description of your video....
As a fellow creative (but a different medium!) I relate SO MUCH. Especially about your perfectionism! Your new smaller sticker sheets are utterly adorable though and I'm digging the rounded edges! xx
I’m not even through with the video but can I just say, I love this little trip to the nail salon! Also this is one of the only channels that doesn’t make me motion sick! 💕
Love these vlogs! Been following you since last August and I think your content is very special- you have a down to earth way of making them. Thanks for being a super cool artist! ❤️😍
I'm so glad you felt better by the end of the video! I'm very grateful to have my husband around as a second pair of eyes and ears when I'm having similar troubles. He calms me down and says "Here let me see what I can do" and it's such a great help to have someone help you see things a different way.
I wish I lived near you so we could be best friends. Lol your lovely. A breath of fresh air and so incredibly inspirational. Sending you and yours so much love! Ty for making these videos! ❤️❤️
As a content creator, you are kicking ass! You totally deserve a break, not only for yourself but mentally too! Everyone needs a break from time to time but the fact that you can recognize it is awesome. Keep up the great work!
I’ve been really inspired by your vlogs as a beginner freelance illustrator. Your content actually encouraged me to start branching out on my own, so I want to say a big, big thank you 💕 Love, Nellidoodles from Finland
YAAAAAAAAY!!!! You filmed your spa day! It’s so beautiful in there, it’s hard to find a nail technician that does the stencil art. Love the nails 💅🏼♥️♥️ Kat, It’s hard being a perfectionist, I struggle as well. And it’s hard to find ppl who can relate to you wanting your work to look like how you imagine. I’m glad you took a half day to step back and relax and come back in with a fresh mind set. Side note: I want that bulk sticker notebook you keep, looove it! This must me a UK thing, but you have a stove in the break room? They must trust everyone not to burn the place down. 😅that’s uncommon here in the states. Remember, we love you.
So glad you were able to come thru the burnout to the other side. It's so easy to succumb to it when you have to juggle sooooo many other things that just get in the way of the creative part. Thanks for sharing! Your personality is such a bright spot on an otherwise dreary and dark day. 😘
With the onlinelabel sticker paper, when cutting with the cricut, you can play with the cut pressure to see if that helps. So, instead of using the "default" cut in design space, use the "less" setting.
I love you sooo much! Thank you for posting these types of troubles you have. I'm opening my own etsy shop and it really helps to see the less-than-amazing days and issues
omg i know what you mean! my burnout ended up being depression and c-ptsd which lead to an identity crisis but two years later and not being able to pick up a pencil, i am back to being okay again and i did 5 drawings in a week!! :o your videos have helped so much! thank you
I buy from online labels as well but my new favorite is from Sheetlabels.com it is a bit thicker than online labels but what I really love about it is that its SUPER white so the colors just pop it is the "Spectacle" labels on their site. You can always get samples from them. That is what I did so that I didn't buy a bunch and not like it. I tried lots of different companies. Maybe check it out too :) Have you tried doing your own custom settings for the paper if that is the paper you like? Sometimes it takes trial and error. But you can go into the settings and see what the material setting is for what you currently use and then create a custom one with it adjusted down to avoid the cutting through the back. I would help you if you need walked through it. Ok after watching the whole video I see you did that ha ha I should comment AFTER listening to the whole thing bahahhaa
Craftin' Chaos I actually just ordered the exact same sticker paper earlier because I had a sample from past orders and I love the quality. I’m planning to open my etsy shop this month and I’m really excited😊
careLESs i love the bright white, online labels doesnt have any that bright or i would buy from them because i like the way they package their stickers better but colors just pop on this white. It prints good too so i am sticking with it too. Good luck to you and your new shop
Craftin' Chaos true! I’ll definitely stick with it not unless I find a better option in the future. Thank you (insert your name.lol) for sending me good luck😊
Great vlog as always! I’m glad you’re feeling better after a tough week. I’m also a perfectionist so can totally relate! Hope you take some time to relax at the weekend 😊
Ending Tune: ding da ding ding! ding da ding din. ..lalalala la la laaaaaaaaaa, (trumpet) bum ba bum bummmm bum ba bum bummm 🤪😁 and loved watching the pros and cons in a business Kat! this is a true reflection on how to keep it kool and work a business! you are a pro sweetie! 👍 clever girl :)
Happy Valentine's Day, love! 🖤 I'm just now coming back from being bunt out myself. I had an oil painting for a client that really defeated me for awhile. But I'm back in my zone now and I'm glad you are too! When you have dreams about zombies is symbolizes that you feel over whelmed or out of control with something, so that totally makes sense. Lol
I just found you and I have to say seeing the real side of you is giving me some hope that I can create with having anxiety, so thank you. Also thank you for sharing how you use Procreate. I have been going to this creative design conference called Creative South and the talks this year was about stress and anxiety amongst other subjects it was awesome to know I’m not alone.
It's not a comfort, but Design Space has been crashing on me for the last 24 hrs too! Better luck!!! :) Also, I use the Online Labels paper, put 4 layers of the background, one layer of the stickers, sticky note setting, and default blade-no cutting through the back-hope that helps :)
Well done for working through your technical issues. I'm no businessperson, but your professionalism and positivity just shines through into your cute products. And everyone has those days where nothing goes right and everything's a mess and you hate what you create. You did the right thing by taking some me-time, regrouping and coming back refreshed. Way to go, girl 💕
I totally had the exact same week as you.. I hated everything I was doing and I kept doing stupid things or my computer did and I was like 😭😫😭😫😭 Had a sleep... feel better now!! 🙈🙈🙈 Thank you for always being YOU, you’re always so honest and open and that’s why we all love you soooo much 💕
I cut my sticker paper on washi tape setting. You can also go to the bottom and do a custom setting to change things to what works best for you! Thank you for sharing everything with us!/lets me know to never stop, never give up!
Great! I love your studio vlogs soo soo much. Just keep going on with them. I really think you are an amazing freelancer and artist/illustrator and I really look up to you! 💕❤️
Love your studio vlogs!🐱Not many designers show their ups and downs of the business side. I appreciate this a lot as a student designer. Ps..... love putting your vlogs on while doing my dissertation 💕🎓
Be kind to yourself bb!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️✨ burnout is scary 😱 I had a hand injury that took almost a year to get better plus yeah, letting your mind have a break from all your busyness😭 I would’ve cried from all the things malfunctioning haha you are a trooper
For online labels standard matte sticker paper, I use the washi sheet setting and it doesn’t cut through at all! If my blade is dull, I still use washi sheet but pressure to “more”. For online labels weatherproof matte paper, I created a custom setting because I couldn’t find one that was preset that worked well for me either.. I believe I set the pressure to 107 or so and I don’t run into any problems 😊 I use the cricut maker and the suggestions from online labels did not work with my cricut.
Not too negative, just real life. Glad you're feeling better though! Girl, honestly, every video you post I have to watch it. When I saw the sister tag video I thought, "Oh it's not art related I don't really care if I watch it" but I watched it anyway and halfway through I couldn't help but think, "This is so endearing, why would ever not watch one of Catherine's videos?" Seriously, when Minnie Small said you had an "infectious personality" she nailed it on the head. I don't know what it is about you but you're lovely. Even when you're having a bad week.
It was so great to see you stepping back and then coming back so positive and happy about things! I know I get so annoyed with some things and a lot of the time you just need to step back, sleep, eat or have a drink haha! 😂 But in the moment it’s hard to realise that. Anyhow loving your vlogs as usual! 💕
Try the stencil vinyl cut setting on the lightest pressure. I have really thin vinyl sticker paper and that seemed to be the best for a kiss cut without the poke through the back issue.
Haha I totally relate to you being frustrated with the technical issues. Nothing puts me in a worse mood than technology not doing what I want it to do! I'm glad you're feeling much better already though! I love the cloud stamping you got on your nails :D
I completely understand what you mean about being a perfectionist! I own an etsy shop as well and am always obsessed with everything being perfect. Whenever I worry I'm being overly critical I will show the issue to my family and they usually will tell me I'm being crazy. I would probably drive myself up the wall if it weren't for them:)
I’ll be looking forward to burn out story. I was burning out at work for weeks and finally booked some days off. Clearly not soon enough because I got a cold, then bronchitis, then pneumonia so I was off before my days off. Now I’ve spent most of my days off sick in bed. I’m not leaving it so long next time. If I feel it coming on again, I will definitely take a few days off to chill.
:( I have always gotten super frustrated when testing out new sticker papers. The weight and quality are always different. Depending on the ones I use I have to customize the cut settings and the print settings for color matching. Each time I try a new paper its several hours of testing cuts and colors haha. So annoying. :p I have used Online Labels sticker paper as well, I tested about 10 different pressure settings. Sticky note setting is a little too deep for the kiss cut. I found that using the custom pressure of 150 will cut your kiss cut well but you may need to test on how many bg layers you will need for the outer sheet cut. (If that made sense.... lol) Hope that helps, though this comment is a little late. :p
If still cut through the paper, try to set dial your Cricut machine (less) blade mode. It happened to me too...I changed my blade mode sticky note and less pressure then it came perfectly. Don’t worry girl...you will be fine...sending my positive vibe to ya. Love ya:)
First, happy Valentine's day to you and Emily! Second, I'm so sorry everything went wrong. 😔 I'm a perfectionist as well and my husband has to be my Emily and assure me that things are ok. Taking a break is very important. So a burn out video would be great. Lastly, the issues with your printer...I also have an Epson and they are so finicky with printing and paper quality and thickness. Uh I hate it. 😩 But the reason why some print lighter with different settings is because of the paper quality. So glossy vs standard paper absorb ink differently, so that's why the printer will adjust the amount of ink is released for different paper types. Ok, sorry for the long comment. 😅 Love your videos! ❤
I make planner stickers, (Studiozera) and I’ve been there, still there with the print quality and paper stock. It’s a nightmare! I’m at a point that I don’t know what to do, as I’ve tried 7-9 different sticker suppliers and none seem to be correct for me. I think I’m just like you; a perfectionist. Maybe I need to take a step back, take a depth breathe hahah! Or just go with the best outcome. I use a Canon inkjet a photo printer, so the quality should be there. It’s a nightmare! 😅
I feel your pain... Technical issues are literally the bane of my life most days! I literally can’t take the bajillion Adobe CC updates I have every few weeks 🙄 Burn out is so hard to overcome, I don’t struggle with focus & lack of motivation after a bad stint of burnout - is love to see a video of how you overcame yours!! 👌🏼🙏🏼 xx
please, please, PLEASE take care of yourself Cath - sometimes you need to slow down and think about yourself even if it means you only do 1 video a week! take care of yourself♥️
Don't apologise for showing the way it really is in business. If it was always an easy ride we would all have our own businesses. Thank you for showing us the "warts" an all! You da best :D
I love your video so much ! It's pretty nice to have your sister around to help you relativize. It's the creatives syndrome to be perfectionnist ! ahah
