Sandi - both skies on paper and canvas are gorgeous! I could get lost in them. I’m excited to learn what your new medium is - I’m about ready to pull the trigger on a few flashe colors but maybe I’ll wait and see! Oh, who am I kidding, I’ll probably buy the flashe anyway 😂 As far as painting being easy - NO WAY! The struggle is real and not for the faint of heart. But if you can bring yourself to get lost in the process, that’s where the magic is ❤️

I think you hit the nail on the head -- children enjoy just doing it -- and they love the surprises that happen on paper. And pretty soon they learn that they are "supposed" to make a picture when they have a brush in hand. The new painting is gorgeous!

oh cant wait to hear what this paint is, i have horrible allergic asthma so would like to try this paint to see if i react to it painting is not easy, but its not as hard as a lot of people think it is. yes it takes work to learn and improve but I would hate for someone to not even try painting if they think they will never be able to do it at all. to get to painting at say like Michelangelo sure as hell takes a lot of practice/time/research but if someone just wants to paint a pretty flower picture for their wall, they should just jump in and paint it, and if they find they like to paint, then the learning journey can start 😀

I don't have paint allergies but i do have a contact dermatitis meaning sensativity to what i touch so i can understand not using something you love. at least you have acryllic & watercolor which are really fun. I love watching your videos & your work! as for "painting being easy" i get it! I gave up til I found artist frank clarke. he makes it all fun & process without caring what anyone else thinks :)

That is a super interesting topic..I think it also has to do with people perception of talent..like something you have as opposed to something you work on...but I really relate to you...because I also think that art should be fun first of all...even if it is not easy now a days..with all the socials and all the have a style and a "brand" sort of mentality...

Sometimes when painting I can feel the work is good and I’m pleased then it starts to slip away so I chase after it and hopefully bring it back round,we must all love the chase and the challenge,where would the fun be if it was easy !

Okay, I'm really loving that peacock and roses behind you. That is gorgeous. And I have allergy issues, too, but not with paint. I also take Mucinex DM, which seems to be the ONLY thing that gets the smells out of my nose. And sometimes it's just something in the air, like a chemical smell from somewhere outside, not anything in the house. It has a really weird smell that most people wouldn't even notice. Anyway, I also wanted to add that the only way Mom got me to go to kindergarten was because there was an easel set up in the classroom. The days when I got to paint were the ONLY days I didn't run to the door when Mom came to pick me up.

Yes it can be the paint I tried water soluble oils which is a lot better for my allergies I found they are good for what I paint

Your sketches with the written colour names are so interesting! It reminded me of old books where they would write the colour names in the illustrations, to save printing costs :D

I haven't read all the comments so sorry if this has already been suggested but I wonder if a fume extractor fan - like ones people use for soldering or in workshops could help? I know you have a fan blowing in the room but maybe one that sucks in the fumes and takes it outside (you could vent through a window/remove a pane) would help more.

If still you have trouble try water oils like cobra brand very creame and won't dry as fast as acrylics. Good luck, also you don't use so much water . Still can use the same medium as you use with your oils. A lot of artist had to change because allergies to the paints and the turpentine and other liquids that are as strong .

The only oil paint that doesn't affect my breathing is Michael Harding. I've tried quite a few oil paint brands, oils, etc. I paint my under painting outside and once I am ready to start painting I use the oil paint and the full line that goes with it. I hate the price but I love the paints. Listen to your body it's letting you know when it doesn't like the experience of certain products. Lovers all of your videos.

Hi Sandi, I love your art and I think you are a beautiful person inside and out (just like the art you create) 🥰. Like you, I suffer from allergies as well, although not to paints, so I understand how debilitating it can be. Obviously you are sensitive to smells so I was wondering if you have ever tried to have an onion cut in half and put it into the room whilst you are painting? Apparently the onion absorbs the smell of fresh paint, this may give you some relief. Otherwise an air purifier may also help. Love your videos, you may me laugh a lot ☺️. Wishing you a healthy life and lots of happiness. Big hugs from Australia 💕

Interesting idea!!! We are actually considering an air purifier but Grady pushed pause because I found these paints I’m loving. I’m afraid if I used an onion my eyes would be watering the whole time 😂

Oil paint, acrylic, water color all paints use the same pigments and different binders. If you were allergic to the pigment they would all affect you the same

I think we forget that kids create whole worlds in their paintings and it is just the process of telling that particular story and exploring the media. They usually couldn't care less about their finished product and only because, like you said, we make a big deal out of it. - I am trying to just have fun. Enjoy new ways of doing things, working out what I like, feeling how it feels to paint and draw... just process. If great paintings come out of that yay. If not, then I'm learning. I thing we need Make it Wonky shirts!

I have a similar problem but with acrylics. They give me a headache. And it seems that the fancier the brand ...the worse. Lol. I can do oils (with walnut oil) and watercolors and ink.

I’m so in love with the way you painted the sky in both paintings. Allergies are horrible, hope you find a good alternative paint that you will enjoy painting with like with oils. Do you have also an allergic reaction to the flashe paints or other paints besides oil?

No- I’m not allergic to the Flashe but I have found a paint I like even more than Flashe - didn’t think that was possible. Will be sharing it next Friday 🤗

I had noticed you talk a little about allergies to some of your paints. I hate that for you. Hope that gets resolved for you because I live your paintings. The paintings are awesome. It is such hard work to allow the process to happen and just enjoy it. You do get hung up sometimes in the end product but oh hope fun it is to just allow your self to enjoy the process.
