I have seen aliexpress ripping off quite a few etsy artists' pin designs. It seems like they go on there or on instagram and just blatantly steal them. It's sooo frustrating! I'm glad I got an original Gingie though!

The whole etsy thing sucks so much! This is why I haven't opening mine back up. Maybe you should branch off and have your own website like on Shopify or Big Cartel since you do have a big following right now and I'm sure having your own website would still be successful!

I’m so sorry you went through that angst but I’m so glad you came out the other side happy and inspired. I think it looked lovely. Waterhouse I think is the original painter, yes? He is one of my favourites. I love his themes. And I think you did great. But it’s all about how you felt. Art is mostly emotional and then intellectual. It’s an experience. If you didn’t enjoy the experience, then no sweat, like you said you learn a different way that you can. If only we could go back in time and ask our favourite artists about their experiences, eh? I bet they all had work they hated that just happens to be our favourites!

Hon the color is so off in this video, is this a planned effect? Your palms are HOT pink! :D Edit to say about the Gingy "theft"...without seeing the alibaba version, and just my opinion of course, Gingy and Spice are really common kawaii stylistic characters. I've seen incredibly similar iterations of these gingerbread figures for years and years, as pins and stickers and sketchbook doodles. I think that's just a risk when you have / enjoy the simplistic style that encompasses kawaii characters.

Hi Catherine! you should look into Big Cartel (I've started using them for my shop) as an additional sales avenue. I like that you get a lot of bang for your buck and that they're primary directive is to assist artists and other creatives looking to sell physical and digital products online. You could offer things on there that Etsy's new criteria makes cost prohibitive on their platform. Just a suggestion. 😊

For the ripped-off Gingie, you can report the it to Aliexpress. When you open the item page, there is a little "report item" in the corner. I found 4 results with "gingerbread enamel pin" and both the rights owner and other people can report the it. I suggest you to try to do it, hoping it's a real rip-off and not your supplier (if it's Chinese) stealing your designs and reselling to others. About the mugs.. I know that there is a " shipping fee monster" somewhere about the mugs, BUT just to find a little win-win, pretty local, why don't you offer them at the convention you will attend? The downside is that only the people that will be physically there can have one, but it could be better than nothing :D In this way you can build your stock up slowy, without overworking yourself and without juggling with the shipping fee problem :) Don't know in Great Britain, but here in Italy mugs are a little must. They're quite cheap (about 10-15€) and they're perfect for adults and teens on a budget (unfortunately in Italy it's very uncommon to have artists with original works, like you. Mugs and T-shirts are almost always counterfeit or fake "official merchandise". Vendors take official images of series and animes and put them on mugs). Another thing you can do is adding the shipping fee to the price. I know the fee changes with the nation of destination, but if you add a +10 (example( on every mug, everyone pays the same amount but the people paying a little more compensate the ones who pays a little less (ie. if shipping to Europe costs you 8 while to US 12, European pays a +2 and US a -2 but at the end is always 20, the exact amount you pay to shipping both). And you would be able to add the "free shipping" without being penalised with the listening stuff). If it's a policy well explained by you, in order to offer a product otherwise impossible, I think people would understand :D Otherwise you should think about opening your personal store outside etsy or in combo with it, offering mugs there. But I don't know how it would cost you and if it would be practical for you :/ Etsy is very useful to start I think, but on the long distances I believe its downsides become heavier because you're forced to accept their policies, whatever they decide to do

oh god! i got a great product idea for you.... I know you already do seasonal postcards for halloween, valentine, etc. why not go further and start designing birthday cards, wedding cards, graduation cards, etc. you know the kind you buy at target and walmart and stuff.... but your design.. I don't know much about the stationary business but i think the company Hallmark HIRES designers to make their cards. but you... you don't need to get hired... you have your own thing... so.. just throwing it out there.... :)
