I don't exactly know what kind of people you are trying to attract with this videoclip, but I am not sure you should. I don't know whoever could identify as _smartass,_ but if one comes study there in order to _become a Master_ and _celebrate life,_ one will probably not go through the first year. So what is the point ? And you should also consider that this video is perfect to disgust a wide range of actual smart people. Those who are curious and attracted by knowledge, who really wish to learn and understand, those who you should most care to attract. And those people usually do not choose a university among others because of the sports, parties or whatever. They choose it because of what can be learnt in it. Which is exactly what you are *not* speaking about in this videoclip (there is no use in naming a couple of branches of study between two vulgarities). Furthermore, you are publishing this while real informations about the masters degrees are so hard to find for people who are truly interested in the subjetcs you are teaching. And last but not least, you should better not take the prestige that you put so much emphasis on for granted. It might fly away if you continue this way..

I mean seriously -- drawing a parallel between an MC (master of ceremony) and a Master of Science? That wouldn't even have been cool or funny when the members of the committee that rolled this out were teenagers (I'm guessing 30 years ago). This is definitely NOT the way to try to convince young people that STEM / MINT is cool... this is beyond embarrassing for such a renowned institution such as the ETH. And if you were aiming for a "viral" effect - the only hope is that the sheer cringe-factor will get people to share this... but still, it would be for completely the wrong reasons. This hurts - both as a taxpayer and an alumnus.

Nobody cares if these guys are actually students. Get 3 real rappers, let them have some creative freedom, make some fun about yourself, and maybe this video will be accepted. @ETH Zürich While I like the idea of bringing something fresh and new to promote ETH, I do not think that this has been the case for this video. Everything has been produced carelessly. The Hiphop culture, which has nothing to do with the presented video, is the most fragile genre for doing public relations: the thin line between acceptable and non acceptable is often neglected and that’s why the hiphop community is not satisfied by this. On the other hand, a parallelism between the hiphop culture and proud ETH alumni can be drawn: the not funny way in which ETH is presented in this video make us feel ashamed of other universities and colleagues. What was the message? 1) If you want to talk about multiculturalism, bring more cultures into the video, it makes no sense to include random ones: what about the rest of Switzerland? Shouldn't it be important to know that Switzerland has 4 languages? What about the rest of Europe? Of Asia? 2) What's the point of the scene with the Rektorin and the "rapper" on the table? What I like about ETH is its seriousness, its rules, its integrity: the message that the Rektorin is a super friendly person could have been brought without disrespecting her role. In general, taste or not, PR should analyse their work based on the public feedback. After less than 24 hours around 2/3 of who has seen the video on RU-vid has decided to "dislike" it and not to "like" it. Since PR are not an independent records company which should not care about the mainstream, this should be a huge signal which underlines that the main goal of the campaign, promote ETH for young students which want to start a master, failed. I've been in touch with representatives of the PR team for other projects and I know that their intents are the most noble. However, talking about taste is the wrong answer. Useless to say that I find the increased fees controversy sterile and useless in this context and I invite people to constructively criticise the content of the video: this might help the PR team producing something more accepted in the future.

As an ETH master student, I'm appalled and ashamed by this video. If you think this will help attract people that are looking to decide which top school to attend, you got it wrong. The idea that ETH needs to resort to such cheap marketing gags to attract talent is totally misplaced.

So we are making a promotional video for another University in Switzerland (Genf) and our client told us to look at how Zürich is promoting itself. I did not expect this... what are we going to do

Too bad we don't get to see the robot much longer... It was definitely the most interesting thing about the video. Re-edit the video with only the "REAL rapper" and the robot and it will be a real success.

That video is a disgrace to the ETH and an insult to the people who actually like rap. I get that the Corporate Communications want to attract young people, but seriously, has anyone listened to this crap before releasing the video?

I am a current ETH Master's student, and this video is almost as uncomfortable as my first semester in my department here. I love living in Zurich, but dealing with administrative matters in my department at ETH has been a nightmare. I am a non-European student, and I received almost no introduction when I arrived and felt super isolated for the first few months. My interactions with the administrators have typically left me frustrated and disappointed, and I do not always feel respected or even listened to by certain members of the faculty who are responsible for my program. I really hope things will get better, but it doesn't seem like anything will ever be done about the issues I see here that concern me the most. Every department here is different, but I really encourage anyone thinking about applying here to talk with some students from their prospective departments before getting yourself into a difficult situation...

Not sure I understand what ETH wanted to achieve here. Having been there, the actual mentality of the people and the institution has nothing to do with all this bs. Neither does the daily life of an average ETH student. Trying to appear cool to young kids could be achieved in a much more realistic way. What happened to being humble and just learning something well, without all this show-off crap? Massively disappointed.

Oh wow. I always thought that making a cool rap as a commercial died somewhen around 2000. You never stop learning, kids!
