This just reminds me of Sailor Moon Abridged where they recontextualized Minako being at that elementary school to her just barely graduating kindergarten.

Because in Japan you can’t be held back until high school. In fact, when they’re finally in high school in season 5 they mention at one point that they can actually be held back now.

But that idea was scrapped and she became fully human, though her cybernetic traits were later giving to Hotaru in both the original Manga and the "Crystal" anime series.

That's actually typical of anime. Especially romance ones. Love Hina for example is all about studying. It was very common in 80s and 90s ones.

It’s actually the good dub , DiC absolutely just censors too much of the original anime and it’s just unbelievable

Good for you. I never was a fan of the DiC & Cloverway dubs of Sailor Moon. I'd prefer Sailor Moon as it was in the original Japanese especially the Viz Media English dub.

Yeah and that’s the problem. They overdid it. Now they sound like annoying teenagers which is the antithesis to the entertainment people signed up for. It’s supposed to be an entertaining interpretation of teenagers, not actual imitation. That’s why the teenage reboots of every show has abysmal ratings vs the adult version of teenage shows having unreal ratings.

Nothing that you said is objectively true and you trying to apply these arbitrary standards of what you find entertaining vs everyone is just gaslighting. If you don't like the Viz dub, then don't watch clips of it. It just shows you are obsessed and insecure about your stance that you feel the need to bash it in order to uplift the DiC dub.

I liked Jupiter's voice in that dub but I can't stand usagi's/Serena's

I didn't have to take one either here in Finland but we did have an exam at the end of the 9th class or the last year of our comprehensive school. Based on your school certificate you are qualified to go study in an upper secondary school (or how high school is called here).

Neither does Najimi (Komi can't communicate) and yet they always pass their tests.

A pity, I'd like to see a mini side arc where Serena gets suspended from school for one too many bad grades and has to do extra study at home to avoid being expelled/or transferred to another school. PS. Would you like to see a Sailor Moon episode where Ms. Haruna loses her shit and gets Serena kicked out of school (temporarily)? We can have a scene where Ms. Haruna 'Sailor V' kicks Serena out the door.

Same thing with serena/usagi's family and her other friends from her junior high school. They all stopped appearing by this point in the anime too.

@@matthewclark5612 yeah, but her mom appeared only in one episode of the fourth season and her younger brother appeared twice in two episodes of season four, and naru and umino only appeared in one episode of season three and once in the fourth season and that's it. Only usagi's mom only appeared two times in the fifth season of sailor moon and that's it. Usagi's little brother never appeared at all in the fifth season.

I don’t hate the 90s Viz redub because it’s uncensored, all episodes redubbed, movies redubbed, better voice actors than dic/Cloverway, kept the original music (songs dubbed in English), and kept the original script.

Its bc people cant get over their nostalgia, i grew up with the old dub but i wont lie to myself either on what sounds better

Eh, you’re wrong on this one, there were plenty of episodes that got hated on for good reason. It’s just not top notch pay. I’m guessing it’s to avoid union VAs, not sure but just a guess.

Kate Higgins’ voice for Ami Mizuno/Sailor Mercury sounds fine to me.

It's not necessarily that she "just reads the lines", it's more that she sometimes has this patronizing tone to her voice like she's a character in a preschool show. Like Dora or something. Most of the time, this happens when she calls her attacks, but it happens in other lines every so often.
