I know it's a lie. As I've been practicing the lifestyle of intermittent fasting since I was a teen, I didn't know that's what I was doing. I just knew I wasn't hungry in the mornings didn't eat until late afternoon. I'm now 56 an according to my physician I have the heart of a 16 year old. So all lies!

If you look at the history all those people who lived a long time ate moderate to small amount for 12 or more hours throughout the day. People lived less when they at one meal to two meals if you look at the history. Just eat healthy and moderate carbs and more vegetables and lean proteins. Just my opinion. Also long term intermittent fasting was only done on animals and they did lived longer but intermittent fasting was not done long term yet on humans so it is not sure. Do your own research.

If you're intermittent fasting and got scared looking at this, the study is NOT TRUE AT ALL! They asked 2 day self reported diet in 2003 and that's already telling that they didn't know AT ALL what they were eating in those years, they didn't ask about: genetics,heart conditions,health history,exercise,drug use,tobacco,alchohol,stress etc...... This super bogus study basically is implying that if you don't eat every 2/3 hours when you are awake you're at double the risk of dying ahhahahahahahaha, people don't understand how much this is wrong biologically speaking ( I study biology and nutrition), it's like saying that our bodies cannot stand not eating costantly without dying, it's really the opposite there's been hundreds if not thousands of studies about this. P.S. the average age of the 20000 people researched between 2003 and 2018 was 49 years old. Health is a complex matter and this is generalization AT ITS FINEST

I have fasted for a month at a time (taking appropriate precautions both during and after), and I felt amazing. I have done it multiple times. I've completely reversed my Type-2 Diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and obesity and kept the weight off, all without medications and I was on a lot prior. There is a guy on RU-vid called "the fasting fat man" that did it for a year and lost a huge amount of weight and was perfectly healthy after it. This is complete nonsense to scare people back to eating what "Big Food" tells them taking their "Big Pharma" medications. It's a sick system of compliance because of profiteering jerks behind it all. The American Heart Association (AHA) is the same group of folks that promote a low fat low calorie diet and blame fat for what Sugar has done. They can fly a kite as far as I'm concerned.

Poor quality journalism. Data for this study starts from 2003 (before intermittent fasting was a recognized intervention!!) and includes people with haphazard eating patterns. Oh, do some actual reporting and find out who funded the study!

Our species evolved eating a meal a day if they were lucky. We didn’t evolve with fridges and restaurants and stores open 24 hours a day to get food and eat food all day. I imagine the billion dollar diet industry is upset that intermittent fasting can easily do what they do, better and cheaper.

I usually eat brunch @ 1 and dinner @ 7 . Well within the 16hr parameter and nothing but positive health benefits. When doing Ramadan, if done right, Suhoor is prior to sunrise and Iftar post sundown is also within the 16hr parameter. Two meals a day is safe and fine.

Funny how they made sure to mention fasting for 16 hr or more is the harmful mark knowing most people try to stick to an 8 hour window when doing IF. Propaganda is ridiculous.

Does the study show what these people eat when they are eating? Mostly carbs or mostly fats? I find it hard to believe that if someone doe intermittent fasting and healthy food, they loose weight and it would increase heart disease.

A study doesn't make suggestions. Special interests looking through survey studies do. The American Heart Association needs funding. In the past they did the bidding of big food companies like Post cereal so they could get funding and wouldn't have to shut their doors. Asking heart attack victims what and when they ate previous to the heart attack is silly nonsense

You cant even follow food recommendations these days though. My country has a health star rating system 1-5. Grass fed beef steak got a 1 star and sugar filled cereal got 3.5 stars. I go by the rule that if you leave a food on the bench how long will it take for insects to eat it eg ants or maggots. The faster that happens the healthier the food the slower the worse. Unless its a potato but that is designed to last a long time.

This was not a controlled study - they did not look at what people ate, or what health risk factors they already had, only when they ate. People who ate junk food because they were too busy to eat probably contributed to this study at least as much as people who were deliberately restricting the timing of a healthy diet- probably more because the study began over a decade before intermittent fasting was even a recognized strategy for metabolism control.

I started intermittent fasting 5 years ago. I've lost 80lbs and I'm in the best shape of my life at 46. I also get a physical every year to monitor my levels and overall health. I eat once a day, so I do a 23:1. People are waves in the ocean and you need to figure out what works for you. When I see headlines like these, I always think of lobbying, I can't help it.
