Burch nailed it with the comments about nuance. Sierra has a voice that can go just about anywhere she wants. She makes great choices every time. No excessive runs. No showboating, Every choice makes the song better and more believable, and still makes you go, wow. Goosebumps on top of goosebumps. That's very refreshing nowadays,
This is fantastic. I'm old enough to remember country queen Kitty Wells singing this song more than 60 years ago. What a voice Kitty had -- and what a voice Sierra has!
I don’t consider myself a country fan. I’m a metalhead but I love everything about Sierra. Her classic country voice and bohemian style. She’s definitely on my playlist. It could go from progressive tech Death metal band First Fragment to Sierra Ferrell singing Sliver Dollar 🙃
I discovered Sierra about a year and a half ago. I have this very special, very cherished memory of me, my wife, and two daughters leaving my sister's house late after thanksgiving dinner. I had "Made Like That" playing on repeat for probably the entire 50 minutes drive home. truly a special talent. Her music sorta hugs you tightly before transporting you to some place burdened hearts feel a bit less troubled. I agree, you likely won't hear her on major radio. Maybe a song or 2 but mainstream has a way of watering down the recipes God put together. So, I, for one, selfishly hopes she doesn't go mainstream. That is unless the remains unapologetically her :)
I came across this lady 2 or 3 years ago. She's pretty awesome. I'm really glad you guys did this video. She deserves way more attention than she gets. This coming from a hard rock/metal fan for about 50 years.
She's fantastic, i adore her. A few seconds into Elk River Blues in 2021 i was hooked. I'm so glad i clicked on her by random. She breaks and mends my heart at the same time.
Wow! I've never heard her before, but from the first line of this song, I was lying with a pillow on the floor of my childhood home watching Hee Haw or a brief one song clip from live at the Grand Ole Opry. Or if I was lucky enough to stay up and watch one of the late shows. Oh my goodness, you nailed it Burch and Alex. Yessir, Wow. Thx ☺️👍
She should be a superstar. Love Sierra. Everything she sings pulls you into that unique voice. You hang on each note and they way she plays with it. You go girl!
I've been listening to Sierra Ferrell for about a year now. I saw her band live this month. She wasn't the headliner, but absolutely stole the show. This recording was from a few years ago and doesn't rank in my top twenty Sierra Ferrell songs. I love that her music crosses many genres including Country, Blue Grass, Jazz, Latin and Rock. I hope you take a deeper dive. Subscribing to follow your journey.
The one and only. Such an interesting person, with such a unique delivery. Love Jeremiah (who doesn't), and she does a great Poncho and Lefty. Great performer. Great post.
Okay, you guys sent me on a sleepless couple weeks with this one. I had never heard of Sierra Ferrell until this video, and now I’m a huge Sierra fan who’s heard all of her songs. 😂😂 This one is probably one of her least fantastic songs! She’s incredible, her voice is incredible and everybody needs to listen to so much of her stuff. 😆😍
Sierra is never the same twice. She does some traditional country, but she writes a lot of her own songs that are better than almost anything. Try In Dream.
Shes great and been following her for a while. Was also lucky enough to see her live and what a show. She has some other great covers like Seven Spanish Angels, hey me hey mama, Coat of many colours and Years. Also her album is worth checking out.
Sounds very familiar, maybe June Carter. I definitely appreciate you guys spreading musical culture, great chanel. Also, please, do Wild hearted son from The Cult, its one of their best, but little known songs that gives back a bit of the whole era.
I would not at all say her genre is traditional country, that's too small of a box for SF. She is Americana - a blend of country, folk, gypsy jazz and anything else that suits her fancy.
She starts with bluegrass and “country western” music from 30+ years ago, then throws in whatever else suits her fancy as you say. Sometimes there are swing elements, definitely gypsy jazz, and whatever else fits the song.
Great voice but the production has her way to present in the mix. I know I'll catch all kinds of flack for saying that, but it couldn't be more true. And yes, I completely understand the genre she's emulating. I grew up on Grand Ol Opry music and Hank Williams, etc. She projects her voice very well but the engineer and/or producer just has her to present/loud. Dynamics has run rampant in modern recording and, unfortunately it can mean that the listener has to keep adjusting the volume as the song plays. I know most people don't do that, but they should. If only to preserve your hearing, you should. A much less dynamic recording would sound much more pleasant to the ear.
