This was a very nostalgic song for Burch as it was his class song of 1988 and he also shares a story about seeing them in 1988 at the Daytona Beach Ocean center in 1988 during spring break. Alexis really liked David Coverdale's vocals and the song. Here I Go Again by Whitesnake remains a timeless classic.

That was our choice as well, but got nixed by the administration because of the line about a 6 pack and the line about "loosing more than that in my back seat". So we went with Here i go again. Times were definitely different back then

She was a beautiful sexy woman, but she had her demons. After she & Coverdale divorced, she married California Angels pitcher, Chuck Finley. One night while he was driving, and Tawny was drunk, they had an argument, & she took her shoes off & beat the crap out of him with a Stiletto .

Whitesnake leader David Coverdale wrote the lyric in Portugal. While it's typically thought of as an inspiring song about facing your challenges head-on, it's really a song about heartbreak and the loneliness that comes with it. The song documents the breakdown of Coverdale's first marriage to Julia Borkowski, with whom he tied the knot in 1974. In 1987, "Here I Go Again" was a #1 hit in America, all over the airwaves and MTV, but the song was written in 1981 and first released in 1982 when Whitesnake was a very different band. David Coverdale formed Whitesnake after leaving Deep Purple. He was well known in the UK, so Whitesnake had a built-in fanbase there, but cracking America was a lot harder. They made inroads in the US with their 1984 album Slide It In, but it was the Whitesnake album in 1987 that took off. When they toured America to support it, they did so as opening act for Mötley Crüe. The video features very quick shots of the actress Tawny Kitaen dancing seductively on the hoods of two Jaguar cars. One belonged to Coverdale, the other to Marty Callner, who directed the video. It was a huge hit on MTV, and one of the first "tease" videos. Especially among hair bands, it became popular to show flashes of beautiful women throughout the video to keep the viewers (young boys) interested.
@viksox13

And if you listen closely to that 81 recording, Coverdale sings "Like a HOBO I was born to walk alone" instead of Drifter.

Aww being a teenager of the 80s. My favorite is actually Still of the NIght. As for this song, I remember boys are our school. One was a bass player, he loved Whitesnake (and Tawny helped lol) The other was a guitarist he loved Def Leppard. The radio version has Heart's Mark Andes and Denny Carmassi on it. As for Tawny. Robin Crosby's girl, she was on the cover of Out of the Cellar. She was a gymnast. Love her back then, She was also an actress. Bachelor Party, Witchboard, etc., RIP.

When hair period began, especially with the launch of 1987 album, DJs (and listeners) seemed to forget all the previous great rock/blues/funk (like their cover of "Day Tripper") Whitesnake had done. And people who know the great hits of that album seem to think Whitesnake have done nothing since. But albums like "Good to be bad" "Stormbringer" "Forevermore" "Restless Heart" are just loaded with powerful, gritty no-nonsense rock. And let us not forget the live unplugged "Starkers in Tokyo" (just Coverdale and Vanderberg) which still sounds gerat. I'd love to see reactions to songs like: Only My Soul (or Sailing Ships, if I can't get both), Slave, Best Years, Wings of the Storm, the instrumental "Belgian Tom's hat trick", Fool for your loving, Fool in love again, and W's version of "ain't no love in the heart of the city". Ah! And of course no Whitesnake concert was left without "Burn" (originally recorded by Deep Purple) often in a medley with "stormbringer".

The thing I liked about Dave's band the most is how clean their sound was, both musically and on their lyrics. They were sexual but you never felt they were degrading women to a piece of meat. There's always an element of a man begging for love rather than a guy of questionable credentials telling her she is cheap and easy. I'm still a fan because of this.

Gods that makes me feel alive again :D Takes me right back to my twenties and nights at 'proper' rock clubs trying desperately to impress the ladies with my air guitar skills and hair :chuckles: And one lady in particular it worked on ... so much so that I married her :) To the day that she passed she always said one of her great memories was of me rocking out in my trenchcoat to Still of the Night at one of the clubs we used to go to every week :D EDIT: I was going to ask myself "When did I get so stay-at-home and boring?" ... but it's a question that answers itself ... I got old and my wife died young. It's a 'quote' that is attributed to no one that I know of but "Life is not for the weak!"

The original was on their Saints & Sinners album from 1982. Back when Whitesnake was more bluesy. It had Bernie Marsden and Mick Moody on guitars, Jon Lord on keys, Ian Paice on drums and Neil Murray on bass. Crying In The Rain was also on this album. When they recorded Here I Go Again in 1987 guitarist John Sykes didn't like the blues and the solo was recorded by Adrian Vandenburgh. Check out early Whitesnake. Songs like Walking In The Shadow Of The Blues, Love Hunter and Mean Business.

I graduated high school in fall ’87, and I don’t recall any particular “senior song,” but Bon Jovi’s “Never Say Goodbye” was played at several senior events. Other biggies included “Don’t Dream It’s Over,” by Crowded House and Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer.” However, “Here I Go Again” remains special for me when it came out in fall of ’87, when I was a rather angsty college freshman, having had a rather sheltered childhood as an only child with some health issues until my teens. Suddenly I'm on my own and not a big social butterfly. I spent a lot of time in the campus game room, and this song was blaring from the jukebox often, speaking to me: “I don’t know where I’m goin’, but I sure know where I’ve been.” It’s poignant when you’re at life’s crossroads, whether you’re ending a chapter or beginning one.
