You chalk painted your furniture, and now you’re ready for something new. You don’t have to get rid of it and start over! I’ll show you how to remove the old finish and work with the natural wood to create a modern, updated look. I share all the steps as I strip off the chalk paint from a solid oak in this dining table makeover, and show the dramatic transformation in this detailed DIY furniture project video.

Excellent choice of glaze over the paint wash. The final color looked like a natural wood piece. The removal part can be time consuming but well worth it for the finished product. Thank you for sharing this content on your channel. Very helpful dealing with popular chalk paint. The paint we’ve all tried and were mesmerized by. Awesome work - hope to see more of your videos. God bless.

Thank you so much 😊 🙏🏻Yes chalk paint has been popular for quite awhile now, I figured there might be some folks that are ready to try something new. Thanks for the encouragement 🥰

Beautiful finish. Everyone seems to be doing the fifty/fifty light paint wash on natural wood.. but the stain took the look over the top! Well done, Your efforts really paid off

Yes I’m so glad we didn’t stop after the paint wash and tried the glaze, it really did get that rich color we wanted!!

I'm glad I found your videos! I know wood peaces are beautiful and so on, but they can be outdated and, let say it, boring. And as much I understand that painting a beautiful wood is a waste, I also think that tinkering an old furniture piece is much more fun and more practical in the end. We do not all live in an old furniture compatible environment. So I'm looking forward to see what you're going to do next. See you. Cali (I 'm French , so if my english is crooked, that's why)

Your English is great 😊 I love your perspective and I agree. I think pretty wood should be saved if possible, but it’s impractical to never ever paint any wood either. I come across old dark wood furniture all the time, it’s being given away for free or sold for next to nothing. Because not everyone wants that ‘old furniture’ look. I’m in coastal Florida where the light/neutral painted look is very popular!!

Exactly my thoughts. There's a lot of free dark furniture in France too. I'm sure it would look quite exotic in the US. And I would love some of the pieces I've seen only on videos from north America. It's sad that shipment fee would be too expensive.

I really love the colour you wound up with on this finish. It's really gorgeous. I was getting a bit tired of the whites but it can be so hard to find a nice brown that isn't too red or too yellow and also not too dark. This one is in the Goldilocks zone :D

I stripped an antique dark, reddish chest, but do not want a paint finish. I would like to do what you did here. A wash with the glaze. I sanded it, so what do I need to do to block any bleed through ? Would a wash of thinned BIN block it? Does clear shellac block the tannin bleeding through?
@rescuedbyamy
@rescuedbyamy 14 дней назад
I haven’t used this method, but I have seen other refinishers use a clear shellac first before the paint wash. Clear shellac does an excellent job blocking bleed thru. I hope that works for you!!
