King’s X FINALLY played their long awaited Nashville show after 3 years and 2 cancellations. They closed the set at Brooklyn Bowl with this crowd-lead version of “Goldilox” from their debut album, Out Of The Silent Planet.
King's X. Truly one of the most severely underrated bands in the world. Truly. Songwriting. Vocals. Musicianship/craftsmanship. Talent. Studio production. Live performance. These guys got it all ...& did it RIGHT. Music ...how it's supposed to be done. These guys rank with the best of the best of the best of 3-piece bands ...& the best of bands, period, regardless of number. I'm so grateful I was able to attend as many shows as I did in the past...especially those I attended along with my late wife. My real life Goldilox.
At the ~5:00m mark, you can see a man standing dead center in the balcony. Blue/white Hawaiian-style shirt and black ball cap. That's Robert Trujillo. We were standing about 10 feet from him the entire show, and he was as thoroughly enamored with Dug, Jerry, and Ty as the rest of us were. It was an amazing night.
I just can't get over how massive DuG's tone is here. It rattled my windows here at home on a puny 5.1 setup on my computer; I can't imagine what that must have felt like live!
These guys will always move me to tears. I've seen them many times since the late 90s. Just look at their smiles as they listen to the crowd! It's awesome. It makes you wonder - how many times have they played this song? No other band would find this much joy from such an old song unless they were getting paid big $$$, which I assure you King's X is NOT! They've never been in it for the money. They truly loved their art and have always had a genuine satisfaction sharing it with us, and for that we are eternally grateful. Thanks for sharing this.
it was beautiful, as always. Great show. I was also at the Atlanta show circa 1992-1994 at the Roxy where this first happened. Doug started singing and the entire audience sang it back to them. He stopped mid song and allowed the audience to keep singing instead. It was magical.
Got to sing this Last Thursday 03/07/24 in Newton NJ. What a memory I will have. Met Gerry and Dug after the show and they were beyond cool. I have been a fan from The beginning. Now I can die happy. Thanks Kings X l. Truely one of the best most underrated bands ever!!!! 🤘🏿🤘🏿🤘🏿🤘🏿
I’ve been fortunate to see concerts and performances of many different backgrounds…from classical virtuosos Josh bell and Lang Lang to Funk royalty Teena Marie and even global artist Yanni…still nothing compared to be privileged seeing King’s X in a small bar with no security fence or guards while they play on a tiny stage only a foot or two off of the floor. The venue was probably half of the size of this video, it was that small. The band’s performance and musicianship really is that spectacular. And to give an idea what kind of guys these people are…at the end of the gig they said they wanted to get a drink of water but it would be their honor if anyone wanted to meet them for a few moments off stage. They took the time, and didn’t even charge extra, to meet with EVERY single person until nobody was left. True class act
Obviously these are King's X fans at a King's X concert...but STILL....I never cease to be amazed at how probably 99% of the crowd knows ALL the words...AND the harmonies...AND the syncopated phrasings....I mean it's not like "Goldilox" spent months and months on the Billboard Top 40. What a great great song regardless!
Absolutely beautiful. I got to sing the whole song with them up on stage one night in Houston, Texas at a small club called Cardie's. I sang into Ty's mic. I love those guys.
thats so cool, i got to get up on stage with them in colorado springs and sing pleades through tys mic on my birthday then they sang happy birthday to me, best birthday ever!

When the crowd starts singing… I had to pause and let some tears out with a smile…. 🥹…. Us and the crowd get this song…. 🥹😔…. Imagine a song you created… and everyone sings along to the words/feelings you wrote/expressed….. that’s it! … 🥹🥹🥹🥹
I was there not far from where you were. I was blown away by the crowd's singing, harmonies and all! I knew just the chorus but was astonished that everyone else knew all the verses. There were people near me doing some great harmony. Great show.
The album version is wonderful. Letting the audience sing it because your voice is fried is beyond dull and boring. Retire guys. You abandoned your faith and waisted 30 plus years of my life. I know I'm not the only one that feels this way. The last album sucks. Sorry guys. I feel betrayed by my favorite band.
I’ve seen EVERYBODY live. Nobody and I mean NOBODY sounds as good as I Kings X Live. His bass tones are INSANE!!!!! And let’s be honest here, is there a more underrated guitar player walking the planet? Maybe Ian Thornley but other then that,… nope
Thanks for the video John. King's X is one of the greatest "Power Trio's" on the plant. A three piece that all member are amazing vocalists and phenomenal 3 part harmonies and backing vocals.I wanted to throw in brother that the harmony you sang on the chorus was damn good. Good job!!!!!
You know that King's X is a musician's band because everyone was singing well and in tune. When I went to see Ray Wylie Hubbard doing this same bit he chastised us for rushing so much during Snake Farm.
They really need to pick bigger venues, because the shows sell out in 15 minutes, at least in the Deep South. By the time you find out, it's too late. This is a good example of why that is. When the crowd can cover not only the vocals, but the harmonies, that should tell the major labels something. Unfortunately, it doesn't. And THAT folks, is why I now boycott the music industry.
Great video, @johnthompson, I've seen Kings X so many times. St. Louis, Louisville, Indy. Love them. One of my favorites of all time. Sorry I missed them here in my hometown of Nashville. Too much going on. But thanks to the camera ninjas who captured it all! Maybe next time in another city on another night. I have plenty of great memories though!!! Thanks for sharing this! Nashville loves some Kings X.
1989, middle of the afternoon, I was walking through a field in Bushnell, IL and heard “Over My Head” and ran to see them. I’m 52 now and their music has been the only constant in my life. That day @ Cornerstone changed my life.
They did this at a small club when I saw King's X, at first singing at the top of my lungs with a bunch of mostly dudes was a little weird, but it was hard to choke back the tears by the end. This is one of those songs that hits home for a lot of people, and over the years, they rarely played it live. It was such a great experience to have the crowd sing it for the band.
Every song writers dream, to have thousands of people singing the words they wrote, words that were only on their mind once, but now are free for the world to sing. its beautiful.
One of their best compositions, set in a constellation of their other sublime songs. I'm so happy that I have been following them since the later summer of 1989.
I saw them for the first time live around '98 on Tape Head because they never really came to Indianapolis and I could finally drive to Ohio. It blew my mind to see this band I had idolized for so long in the real, with the "King's X Choir," as they say, belting it out. I was like "what the fuck? Am I in church?" Turns out, I was. Pushed to see them more times over the years and always the best. Wally's New Hampshire show on RU-vid got me through covid isolation many days. This is my favorite living rock band. Newest album is brilliant and worthy canon. Long live the kings.
i look at you and i know who you are your just a little bit too far from my home but please dont get me wrong even though it has been long i hope i never sing my last song without someone
