On this episode of Something To Wrestle, Bruce and Conrad look back 25 years at Survivor Series 1995, which took place on November 19, 1995, at the US Air Arena in Landover, MD. In it, we'd see Bret Hart take on Diesel for the WWF Championship in the main event. We'd also see four traditional Survivor Series matches including The Darkside vs. The Royals, The BodyDonnas vs. The Underdogs, and a "Wildcard" elimination match that saw heels teamed with babyfaces, and babyfaces teamed with heels...who booked this shit?? That and much more!

This was a great Survivor Series 1995. It did feel like WWF was in a transitional place with this pay per view. The reason why cause this was the first Survivor Series on a Sunday instead of Thanksgiving Night or Thanksgiving Eve. I was thumbs up about this pay per view too for the same reason as Bruce. Bret and Diesel was match of the year for me. It told a great story. The Wild card was useless as a 2 dollar bill. It felt like Bill Watts was thrown shit to the wall to see what stook to get those stars that need a match to have match plain and simple.

Alundra vs Aja was on the cards to the point the WWF Magazine listed it in their preview of the Rumble PPV, printed ahead of time. And JR has confirmed that was the plan. @katiewaters5463 2 месяца назад
Prichard is either not remembering accurately or is just full of it because 100% Alundra Blayze vs Aja Kong was advertised in the WWF magazine for the 1996 Royal Rumble so that clearly WAS the plan. Blayze had done her feud with Bertha Faye by that point and it was clear by the Aja Kong booking of her as sole survivor and steamrolling her opponents in her 2 RAW matches following Survivor Series.

I call shit on Prichard here when discussing the direction they was going in for Alundra Blayze opponents at this time, he claims it was Bertha Faye they had in mind. Well that seems odd as Blayze and Faye had feuded for months prior to this event and ended their program. Aja Kong indeed was booked as the sole survivor here and won the next couple of matches on RAW and was even advertised in the then WWF magazine to be the opponent for Blayze at Royal Rumble 1996. It was in print. So i think Bruce is either confused on the timeline of events here or he is just denying what was happening at the time.

It might have been his best match but Diesel can’t put on a clinic, I’m sorry, even with Brett calling the match. I could never figure out the hype about Diesel because he would get gassed after 3 minutes and back then as a babyface he couldn’t promo either.

Aja Kong WAS the one WWF was going with against Alundra Blayze. I recall the Rumble match being advertised and then quietly dropped. Bruce just lost a lot of credibility with me.

Okay but here's where you lose me Bruce. You guys ROUTINELY brought in talent who legitimately couldn't speak the language, or had gimmicks that indicated such. Not only brought them in, but had them on top either chasing titles or holding them. So where's the logic in the argument that a female wrestler, who by your OWN ADMISSION was skilled in the ring, was passed over and "didn't make sense" because of an inability to communicate? Why not just give her a manager/mouth piece like you guys did for so many others? I'm not trying to be difficult here, I'm honestly just confused as to why that wasn't an option. Was it just an issue of women's wrestling still being seen as mostly a "special attraction" match ala Moolah, similar to what the Lord Littlebrook's of the past had been, so you guys didn't think the wrestling audience of the era would have accepted a female wrestler being presented with a manager? That would have required some pretty decent "screen time" in order to get her over that way, so was it an issue of being afraid "the boys" would have a problem with potentially having their own matches cut/shortened to free up that time/space? Again, really not trying to be a Karen here, I've been a wrestling fan as far back as I can remember (I'm 32), and have been fascinated by the psychology and theory and logic of booking/promoting, and I'd really just like to be able to understand this better.

@@Rschr101 to be fair no one was a draw in 1995 . the Undertaker, Nash, Shawn or Bam Bam . none of them .

@Vincent Verona You made a good point yourself . wrestling in 1995 was terrible all the way around . I feel it was because most fans of the day [1995] had grown up since the Wrestling hey day of the 80's . both WWF and WCW were doing outdated gimmicks and storylines for young kids . the wrestling audience had moved on and wanted real and fresh . that is why most fans of the era gravitated towards workers like HBK and the Hitman . of course I am no expert and can be totally wrong . have a great week .

The Bret - Diesel match was way too long I always thought. Good match though
