The reason so many couldn't understand Bret back then was because he possessed 2 things rarely seen in the industry: loyalty & true integrity - living up to your word. Bret never would've gone against Vince simply because he was the guy that gave him his first real shot in the business. Vince couldn't understand this because a person can't understand things like loyalty & integrity when they've never experienced what it's like to feel them personally.

It makes me sick hearing that opening story, Bret has been in the WWF since 1984, and it's 1986 during a match with the Killer Bees at MSG when he takes notice of Bret? He and Anvil had two matches against the Bulldogs at MSG in '85, the second of which is much better than the first (and FAR better than the one with the Bees) Yet it's 1986 where Vince sees Bret's value?

Bret Hart is one of my favorite wrestlers....BUT....the screwjob was Bret's fault. I've heard it from every angle. You leave, you need to drop the title, period. What was Vince's Fault was that he had Bret as the champion and let is contract go up with title still on Bret. Now, I get it he didn't want to loose in Canada. Either way it would have been good for business because it would have turned Shawn into the biggest heel champion ever...and was now in a position to give a someone a huge face push. Bret lies a lot. His fans will rag on Hogan all day but give Bret a pass when he throws his dead brother in law under the bus, taking full credit for the match when Davey looked fully capable to me, exaggerating the time it went, never holding Owen accountable for temporarily paralyzing TWO men in one year, or how he rewrites the screw job history every year. Now he says it had nothing to do with losing in Canada, when that's all he talked about on Canadian TV in 1997, basically saying any other wrestler in any other city he'd do the job.
@onewarriornation602
@onewarriornation602 9 месяцев назад
Also, let's put it out there which is hard as I grew up a Bret fan as a kid, but uncomfortable facts are uncomfortable facts. 1: Bret Hart was a habitual drug abuser who repeatedly cheated on his wife and would leave his wife and kids home alone on his days off from the WWF to go screw random women and do drugs in hotel rooms. 2: Bret stood by as his brother in law Davey Smith would give his sister Diana date r*pe drugs and s*xually assault her while she was passed out. THIS is the bastion of morality the smarks want to hitch their wagons to? A lowlife junkie, no better than Jake Roberts and as big of a liar as Roberts? Hey, at least Jake fully owned up to his issues and got beyond them. Bret still sits on his glass throne in his glass house casting stones at everyone else he ever worked with.

This isn't even a complicated or debatable issues. The answer is no. Bret should not have been paid more than Hogan. Wrestlers are paid according to the amount of eyes they got on the product and butts on seats in the arenas, NOT based on how good of a technical wrestler they are in the fictional storyline of professional wrestling. The absolute reality is that whether Bret or any of his fans like it or not, it is a factual reality that Hogan attracted more viewers and paying customers than Bret did, for the entirety of his career. The ONLY people that will argue against this are total marks, whose opinions are worthless anyway.

Hulk Hogan did everything he could to avoid a match with Bret Hart in WWE and WCW. A fun fact that the main event for Summerslam 1993 was supposed to be Bret Hart vs Hulk Hogan and Bret would regain the WWE title. Hulk Hogan beat Yokozuna at Wrestlemania 9 and Bret Hart would win the king of the ring and then the match between them would happen. Hogan found out about the plan and backed out of facing Bret Hart. He dropped the belt back to Yokozuna and then left the company. Years later WCW teased a feud between them just to have Bret Hart turn heel and join the NWO which made no sense. Hulk Hogan kept refusing to face Bret Hart. And if you need further proof of Hogan playing games and being selfish we must never forget WCW bash at the beach 2000.

Bret was a main event guy from 1993 to 1997 that's a 4 year run on top. He did pretty good for a guy who spent most of his career as a midcarder
@billybob5337

That was circumstantial, partly because of the steroid scandal. And he DIDNT draw. He was one of the worst drawing champions in history. Definitely not a money maker

@fuzzluvver69
@fuzzluvver69 9 месяцев назад
@@onewarriornation602There's a difference between certain segments of a fanbase really liking him on one hand, and actually drawing money on the other. He wasn't the worst as a draw, but was absolutely nowhere near as big a draw as the likes of Hogan, Austin, heck even Goldberg for the short time he was on fire. That is objective reality btw, not personal opinion.
@onewarriornation602
@onewarriornation602 9 месяцев назад
@@fuzzluvver69 I never said he was as big of a draw as them. I said he drew. That's objective fact. When Vince had him beat Diesel the numbers, and this the money went UP. When Michaels tanked the company so bad Vince and his Lawyer were talking about filing bankruptcy and Bret came back and Vince put the strap back on him he again increased the numbers, AKA drew. You said he "didn't draw." He did.

@donjohn2695 100% fact. Love him or hate him, Hogan is the biggest draw of all time. If the internet had existed 1985, his merch sales would be historical. Hogan had over 33 million people watching at one point. Steve Austin barely broke 10 million at his absolute peak. John Cena didn't even crack 6 million and it dropped every single year he was on top. Anyone who thought they were bigger than Hogan was kayfabing themselves.

WCW wasn't a wrestling company that was pretty much the problem. WCW was a TV show featuring wrestling, not a wrestling company. That's why they were able to end their house show business and be more profitable for it.
@NoneofYabiz-rx3zi

They didn't end it. They stopped going on the road for a while cuz they kept losing money every time. They restarted running live events once business was better.

The more I listen to Bret talk the more I realise he’s his own biggest fan. He wants to be the top guy all the time but pro wrestling doesn’t work like that. When you’ve got a deep roster you have to shuffle people around so everyone gets their shot in the main event especially if they’re a hard workers. I don’t think Bret understands that still to this day 🤦‍♂️

The WWF would have started loosing in the ratings to WCW regardless of who was headlining the WWF. The wrestling fans where wanting something different WCW gave them the NWO. When WWF went full attitude Era the WWF gained the ground back. Guess who wasn't there Bret Hart nor HBK. They where key parts in bringing about the attitude Era it wasn't until mid to late 1998 that the attitude Era was pretty much in full swing.

Bret Hart was clearly a better wrestler, but bigger draw?... I dunno, I've seen alot of wrestling shoot videos, an most of the time when guys are talking about Bret, they say he always wanted to be no#1, so it's not doubt that Hart asked for a penny more than Hogan, just to say he's making more money at the time. Hart seems like a good guy, but alot of wrestlers say he's very conceded.
