Life is not guaranteed as to who you are with or without another, Unfortunately like many bands they sometimes go there own way. The Best of Times are not guaranteed Appreciate the Time with, Time Waits for no one Excellent Band and will both Always be Excellent with or without each other.
Both JY and Tommy Shaw are a real piece of work. For years, they have bashed, ridiculed and blamed the song Mr. Roboto and the album it comes from as hurting their fan base and the bands image. Now because the "merch guys" tell them that people complained that they didn't play that song, they are all smiles and happy to play it. To boot they try and take credit for the song saying Dennis' name is on it but JY did this and Tommy did that. Unbelievable.
Yes sir. That's all that has to be said. This is a hack version of Styx and they are eating crow now because don't nobody care about Styx without Dennis.
You just missed it! The boat docked YESTERDAY! But no Styx this year: Only Billy Gibbons, Sam Hagar/Michael Anthony, Rick Springfield, Canned Heat, and 17 other B-listers
Seeing this about Mr. Roboto strangely reminds me, I use to think, the manner in which Dennis decided to get past Wooden Nickel execs by re-recording Lady, that they should of done just that with the old hits, You Need Love and the Best Thing, along with Witchwolf, The Grove of Eglantine, Man of Miracles, What Has Come Between Us, Father OSA, Miss America, etc. It would of been fantastic to hear these songs done live in whatever incarnation it was performed with. I grew up with those tunes before the big string of hits, and yes, on the radio, many of these songs played on FM when I was a teenager, in spite of most of them not reaching the Billboard charts.
I THINK THAT THEY ARE WONDERFUL TOMMY SHAW AND JY AND SO IS THE REST OF THE BAND THEY STYLE CLASS AND VERY RESPECTFUL LOVE STYX SINCE I WAS 17 I HAVE BOUGHT EVERY STYX AND TOMMY SHAW AND DAMN YANKEES MUSIC. I STILL LOVE THEM NOW.
Saw Styx in 1981 then 7/12/22 took my son to see them & their set list was bizarre too many songs that were not very well known and that was reflected by audience taking their seats like Styx has so many great songs playing unknown and new tracks cleared the room (audience participation) like someone farted
@@williamvanderstelt7832 It's not because they changed that they're doing Mr.Roboto since 2018. It's because the promoters who put up the money and fans who demand to hear that song. That's why they're playing it. I saw them in Columbia South Carolina in June 1983, yep the Kilroy tour . Concert goers loved it, but Tommy quit Styx a few months later over the disagreements with the music and tour but people forget, his leaving was not announced publicly by the press. You look up and boom ! In 1984 every one went solo . Then in 2018 , in an interview Tommy denies he ever hated Mr.Roboto. upon explaining why they brought the song back. To me it's confusing, Tommy one day might deny he ever had a problem with Dennis, should they start doing BABE, Don't let it end or Best of Times. Personal Politics is what screwd up the NFL. Watch out.
Mr. Roboto was the scapegoat. Tommy didn't want to admit that he is the one unwilling to play with Dennis. Dennis has always been willing to come back.
Did ya see and hear Mr. Roboto? That's the kind of stuff Dennis wanted to do. God bless Dennis but he would have ultimately destroyed the band. At least Styx is still around and rocking!
@@Toph-ev4ou What has he produced over the last 30 years? Anything memorable? I've got nothing against Dennis but his contribution to rock and roll is in the past. He's inclined towards show tunes now. Did you really want to see the great band Styx do show tunes? Not me, amigo.
@@trysometenderness7466 Dennis' last two albums are excellent and sound more like Styx than Styx does these days. Yes, Styx has done a couple of albums also and written by an outside writer who now happens to be a part of the band. Dennis put out 26 East Volume 1 in 2020 and 26 East Volume 2 in 202. Styx put out The Mission in 2017 and Crash of the Crown in 2021. Kilroy Was Here whether you love or hate it was #3 on the US Billboard. And the most dreaded song that to this day JY & Tommy Shaw won't play "Babe' was #1 on the Charts, their only #1 hit ever written by the guy who screwed up the band according to JY & Tommy Shaw. Decrying Dennis DeYoung is unfair because he wrote the majority of the hits. I would dare say that without Dennis in the band there'd be no Styx today. And no one knows what Styx with Dennis would have done after Kilroy Was Here. If it would have been show tunes then why was their next couple of albums (Edge of the Century & Brave New World) with Dennis not show tunes? Also, why aren't his solo albums show tunes? Dennis was the founding member of Styx, not Tommy Shaw and without him in their formative years Styx wouldn't be playing Dennis penned tunes today and reaping the rewards financially.
Does anyone know if they ever got into the Hall of Fame Rock and Roll Hall of Fame because if they're not it should be called the Hall of Shame for these people are as good as any other bands that I have listened to from the fifties and sixties and seventies or any bands
@@billkaldem5099Chuck sadly has health issues and cant go on many tours. Sort of a Mick Jones situation in that each of them only do random shows at a time
@@jimduddleston9845 The major difference is Dennis is still alive and Gerry isn't. I would really like the true story about why JY and Tommy are disrespecting Dennis. I have never seen anything like it. Most bands that had members left usually solve their difference and at least show respect. Dennis has not hardly said anything bad about JY and Tommy. He basically said he was heartbroken over the whole deal.
@@jamesmoritz3584 I would love to know the real story too. If you ever hear Jimmy or August from DDY band ,they both say he's great to work with and great to work for. My problem is ,he's gone ,so stop bashing him.
Come next Year! We’ll dance! Every year the Rock Legends cruise, chartering the Independence of the Seas from Royal Caribbean, goes out from Florida to The Bahamas with more than 20 major bands onboard playing 3 concerts each! It was 2 weeks ago and they go every year. You should check out my channel, since I’ve recently uploaded lots of great videos I shot onboard: Don Felder, Blue Oyster Cult, Deep Purple, Jefferson Starship, Don McLean, Lita Ford, and more!
Does anyone really know why they broke up or I should say got Dennis out of the band I mean really what is the real reason the honest-to-god real true reason cuz I love this rock and roll group Styx cruising around in my convertible better 60s early 70s with my Reverb and speakers in the back and I was especially proud that they came out of Chicago I love them all I love Dennis as well and yes I wish they would all get back together and do a complete tour it would be good for all of us our hearts and souls and to bring our children and our grandchildren to go see them and maybe even my great-grandchildren I have four of them as well
Lloyd back in 1999-2000, they had big differences during the recording of "Brave New World" but that's not why Dennis was kicked out. You know Dennis had a problem with light sensitivity and didn't know what caused that problem. The band was insinuating that Dennis was using that health issue as a reason to not tour but it's really a lie from HELL. Dennis wanted to do 100 shows per year and the band particularly Tommy& J.Y wanted to do 150. Either way they would've been paid huge money 💰 for 100 shows as they would've 150 shows. It's all about money. Also , the 1996 Return to Paradise tour actually happened because Tommy revealed to Dennis he was having financial problems. Dennis got the band together and that tour was really to help Tommy out. I'm not calling Tommy and J.Y greedy but how you could throw somebody to the wolves especially after they saved your bacon when you were in trouble ? That's what happened here . Dennis" band "Dennis Deyoung and the music of Styx " I noticed a lot concerts with them on RU-vid so he did tour, still recorded his own albums and to this day , HE STILL HAS THE LIGHT SENSITIVITY problem. Money and control, just saying.
The short version is that shaw and young were delusional and had the nerve to conspire against the brain and heart of the band, the incredible Dennis DeYoung
Dennis made Babe without Tommy and JY. It was STYX's only #1 hit. Showed everyone who the creative force was. They could not handle it. Tommy came crawling back after leaving the band and failing on his own. They then stole the name STYX instead of using a different name.
These clowns riding the coattails of the man who created it all. Dennis Deyoung. I saw DD on his last tour and he and his band made Styx look like…. well….. current Styx
Yes. And JY nobody cares who you saw on concert. If you would have kept Dennis you could be retired on an Italian beach but you keep playing the mall openings
@@gkirms Let them disagree. I have no problem with that. I just don't like someone responding to my opinion with HaHa Funny how they continue to sing songs that Dennis wrote though.
@@letno3662 I wouldn't say they stink now, they are obviously selling out shows. However, I think they sound much better with Dennis. JY, Tommy, and Dennis guaranteed to make the fans more excited 😊
@@jamesmoritz3584 That's your opinion that they don't stink now. Not mine. Sorry. Not trying to be argumentative, but groups that try to replace the singer that has a definitive sound, are fighting a losing battle with me. Look at the group touring as the Guess Who. Who can sound like Burton Cummings?
Funny how JY deflects the question about other songs people are want to hear, trying so hard to keep from saying the fans want to hear more Dennis songs , Gowen jumps in to save their traitorous asses! Shame on them for denying fans one last concert with Dennis 50 YEARS NO LESS!!!🤬🤬🤬
@@iansands8315 When the disrespect a key member of the band, who most fans like, it is hard to move on. Even when Mick and Kieth said some terrible things about each other, they resolved it with a new album and successful tour. What Tommy and JY are doing to Dennis is inexcusable. I think they are least owe him and apology. And the thing that gets me is that Tommy always had a problem with Mr Roboto, and now because the fans want to hear it, they are going to sing with little credit given to Dennis. I would love to be at a Styx Q and A so I could ask some questions about Dennis but I am sure they would push aside. I wonder if Tommy and JY have a conscience about the way they treated Dennis. Long live Styx and Dennis.
@@jamesmoritz3584 Look at every band member of the current line-up and tell me how long they have been members of that band. JY and Tommy can't be that bad.
@@iansands8315 No, they are not bad at all. Always been a JY, Dennis, and Tommy fan. But I feel that as many others feel that they totally disrespected Dennis. They say nothing but bad things about him while Dennis had put the band back together because Tommy was having financial problems. So Tommy and JY are good people and musicians but for some reason they are disrespecting Dennis who in my opinion is not only talented but a good person.
They act like Dennis never existed. At least with Foreigner and Journey, the new lead singers show respect for Steve and Lou. I still like Styx without Dennis but I feel that they are hypocritical. Especially with Mr. Roboto. To me it just seems like the JY and Tommy are jealous of Dennis. The rest of the band say nothing bad about Dennis. I like Dennis's new band. His new guitarist sounds more like Tommy than Lawrence sounds like Dennis. I would like to see a q and a with Dennis involved. The people would love it but it wouldn't happen because Dennis would steal the show.
I have nothing against Gowan I think he's a great singer I love his song A Criminal Mind and he has shown nothing but respect for Dennis it's just Tommy and JY that I'm mad at.
Pathetic, and I loved styx when they WERE a band. The brothers Panozzo are incomparable not to mention that absence of Dennis DeYoung. Humor me, as I'm a boomer, barely, and I recall their greatness circa 1975-1990ish.
❤ Jesus Christ said unless a. Sinner man repent of his sins he will die in his sin Jesus Christ does not want you in hell He wants a relationship with us
Mr Roboto was the most requested song that they don't play in concert anymore? Seriously? That stupid song, in addition to the massive Paradise Theater album failure was totally due to Dennis DeYoung and the major reason for the band's breakup.
Mr. Robots was a hit the fans still want to hear it today and Paradise Theater was one of their best albums it produced songs like Rocking The Paradise and The Best Of Times.

Wasn't Tommy Shaw's struggles with drugs and alcohol and his time in rehab pretty well documented? And now he is talking about how he loves to smoke pot? Is he in rehab or not?
Well, pot has actually been shown to be non-addictive. Additionally, if it doesn't impact his ability to live his life and do his job, then he can do whatever. He has also mentioned that he sometimes drinks wine now.
@@Toph-ev4ou If he is able to partake and not to the point of excess, then he is not addicted to it. "Addiction is a neuropsychological disorder characterized by persistent use of a drug despite substantial harm and adverse consequences". If he isn't experiencing harm or adverse consequences, he's not addicted. Additionally, it's not like he came out of rehab and immediately started drinking wine and all. Then that would be a cause for concern. There were decades in-between. He is in a better place mentally, able to control himself better.
@@TommyShawAwesome I disagree. Once an addict, always an addict. He's being careless. What a poor role model for those who have struggled with addiction.
@@Toph-ev4ou It's fine that you disagree. However, people make their own choices with their own lives. These are the choices he has made for himself. It doesn't affect anyone else. Additionally, I'd say that he's not trying to be a role model. He's spoken briefly about his addiction when asked in the past, but he hasn't made a career out of it like some musicians. He's his own person who can make his own decisions. How he deals with his addictions is his choice. And as I previously pointed out, marijuana does not have addictive compounds. And wine is far from hard liquor. He determined that enough time had passed and that he was personally stable enough to indulge himself sometimes. His choices aren't hurting anyone or himself. If you want to tell him how to live his life, that's fine, but I doubt he'd listen. Who are you, or anyone, to tell him, or anyone, how to live? And if I can't change your mind, that's fine as well. I know what I know. And finally, what does it matter? It's his personal life.
I don't get how you and some others just seem to enjoy being critical, no matter what. Just wasting so much energy on pulling someone down, and why? Does it bring you that much pleasure? Life happens,. but maybe try discussing the good in people- if you need to discuss anything at all- mercy.
