This whole album is a story, much like Rush's 21:12, Moody blues Days of Future past, etc it's the story of a theater that opened with all the glitz and Glory of vaudeville right before the stock market crash in 1929 that caused the depression. And for the record, not the same song as Black Sabbath. If you can get your hands on the original vinyl of this album, there's a hologram imprinted on the side that is the the building art from the actual theater. This is the first review I've ever seen you do that has upset me. Listen to the whole album, and quit comparing the song to Black Sabbath because they are two entirely different songs. It doesn't necessarily mean what you think it means but you're assuming it does, you're not reacting, your judging with a preconceived idea that is way off the mark. Is Alan came out in 1981 and the song was written by Dennis DeYoung & James Young for the album Paradise Theater. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-u07-Yo0K-oo.html

Yup. FWIW, here are the lyrics for both, side-by-side: Black Sabbath (1972) Styx (1981) What you get and what you see Mirror, mirror on the wall Things that don't come easily The face you've shown me scares me so Feeling happy in my vein I thought that I could call your bluff Icicles within my brain (cocaine) But now the lines are clear enough Life's not pretty even though Something blowing in my head I've tried so hard to make it so Winter's ice, it soon will spread Mornings are such cold distress Death would freeze my very soul How did I ever get into this mess Makes me happy, makes me cold Now I'm snowblind, can't live without you (uh uh) My eyes are blind but I can see 'Cause so fine I just can't get away (uh uh) The snowflakes glisten on the trees Yes I'm snowblind, snowblind, snowblind The sun no longer sets me free I feel there's no place freezing me Harmless and innocent you devil in white You stole my will without a fight Let the winter sun shine on You filled me with confidence, but you blinded my eyes Let me feel the frost of dawn You tricked me with visions of paradise Fill my dreams with flakes of snow Now I realize I'm Soon I'll feel the chilling glow Snowblind, can't live without you Right 'Cause so fine I just can't get away Yes, I'm snowblind, snowblind, snowblind Don't you think I know what I'm doing Don't tell me that it's doing me wrong Uh uh You're the one who's really the loser Uh uh ah ah This is where I feel I belong Hey maybe I'm snowblind, can't live without you 'Cause so fine I just can't get away Crystal world with winter flowers Yes, I'm snowblind, snowblind, snowblind Turn my days to frozen hours Lying snowblind in the sun Mirror, mirror I confess Will my ice age ever come? I can't escape this emptiness No more reason to pretend Here comes that same old feeling again Yes, I'm snowblind, can't live without you 'Cause so fine I just can't get away Won't you throw me a lifeline I'm going down for the third time 'Cause I'm snowblind, and I can't get away Yes, I'm snowblind, snowblind, snowblind Ah ah ah Ah ah ah Ah ah ah Ah ah ah, ah ah ah

Styx where huge back in the day! They are so overlooked these days, it is unfair. They are such an interesting band, blending Dennis's theatrics, James' hard rock sensibility and Tommy's harmonies and coming up with great song. Lots of great deep cut off of their albums.

I think the three of them balanced each other. Any one dominant personality and the band would have been totally different. You could see the change as Dennis' songs became bigger hits his personality took over the group. They became more ballad and rock-opera-oriented.

Just to be clear, though -- it's not a "cover", or a "version." They're two entirely different songs that just happen, by coincidence, to have the same title. Just like there are two movies with the title "Serenity" -- the 2005 sci-fi movie, and the 2019 drama -- that have nothing to do with one another.

Tommy Shaw is such a badass guitar player and that voice is equally wicked. The lick that kicks this solo off is so cool, then the trem dive that pulls up to that high note is mind blowing. I've been a guitar player since I was 15 in 1985 and even though I can pull that solo off it amazes me when someone writes those wicked licks that fit so perfectly. Steve

I keep saying, Styx is one of the most talented and yet underrated bands of all time. They were the FIRST band in history to have four consecutive triple platinum albums. Not the Beatles. not Zeppelin. Styx. Superior songwriting (Shaw, DeYoung, Young), super tight harmonies, and three different lead singers/styles. Please listen to more!

They were the butt of a joke on "That 70s Show". Eric Forman was the "only fan", and he was mocked for it. He was the only one that came to the concert. I found that script odd, because Styx was huge in the late 70s, early 80s!

I’ve seen Styx 4 times different people but one off my fav bands. Styx was a band for the working man and they always were about the working man.

Yes indeed! That is one of the main reasons why the "Corporate Rock" label so infuriated Dennis DeYoung.

Listen to Styx's Wooden Nickel collection of music. That's the label they were on before A&M. Or even their later music such as their album *The Mission* from 2017. I believe you'll be surprised at the variety of tracks these guys put out...

Massive material they have. They cover so much territory from the progressive Wooden Nickel label days to even now. Each album is a musical and vocal experience.

That's a Styx original JY wrote it. It's a song against cocaine. Everyone tried to say it glorified drug use.

Actually all three of them wrote it. JY, Dennis and Tommy. Although for whatever reason, Tommy wasn't given credit on the album for his part in the lyrics...

I'm a very nerdy, straight edge kind of a person, so I really get a kick out of telling people that "Snowblind" is my "favorite song about cocaine." I love so many Styx songs but you need to listen to "Blue Collar Man (Long Nights)" and/or "Borrowed Time" because despite being written during and very much rooted in the 70s economic crisis, they are *painfully* relevant to the various economic crises that Millennials have had to live through. Also "Dear John," which Tommy Shaw (guitarist/vocalist) wrote in memory/honor of drummer John Panozzo. My other Styx favorites include: Suite Madame Blue, Crystal Ball, The Grand Illusion, Fooling Yourself (The Angry Young Man), Pieces of Eight, Renegade, Boat on the River, Love is the Ritual, and Show Me the Way. (I have a lot of favorites, sorry. Styx is one of my dad's favorite bands and when I was a kid he used to sit down with me on the floor in front of our record player and play all his favorites for me, so I have many happy memories associated with the band.) Oh and "Mr Roboto" is weird yet delightful, which probably makes it a good choice for a reaction video.

This entire album is a work of art, including the album cover and the etching on the album. It was meant to be a metaphor for the changing times in America throughout the 20th Century; relating it to the decline of a Chicago theater. All the songs on the album relate to one another. "Half-Penny, Two-Penny" is awesome.
