Su-27SM is the newest Flanker available in War Thunder. It's an straight upgrade compared to the previous 12.7 Su-27. You can equip up to 6 R-77s with additional 4 R-73s.

Sub 20km, the R-77 is a scary missile. But if you push it beyond 30km, it's just not that dangerous kinetically. Gaijin still hasn't fixed the high-speed oscillations

Sub 20km is where 99.9999999 of engagements take place. It is extremely rare when anything beyond that even happens at all

@@SovietUnion_ Sub 20km is where 99.9999999% of *YOUR* engagements take place. Problem for anyone I'm fighting against in BVR if they have R-77's and I have AMRAAM's is that I can shoot at 30km and you have to notch or go cold to defeat it. I can just crank a couple times and kill your R-77, gaijin initiative to which even if you can shoot a couple more times, I have the timing advantage. The R-77 is equivalent at best (Closer ranges), horribly outperformed at worst. Fix the PID to make them equal

I'm so used to having insane burn time and close-range maneuverability of the ERs that it's weird to use the R77 and not be able to pull crazy last-second shots

R77 doesnt need extra long burn time just because its speed is insane, it also pulls 45 g's so yk

Yes... They say 60m but on some maps where the altitude is already well above sea level it doesn't change anything. I was hit by missiles when technically I am 20m from the ground.

I've been testing it personally with friends and on average multitasking looks between 20 and 30 meters in practice

@@IceGuadian the thing is eventho multipath is 60meters in order to make this green box of enemy radar go down you have to fly at least 40m, else youre not making enough separation

60m is when it starts. You need to drag your belly in the dirt for it to work

Hey Goose! I wont say much here, but I play a decent amount of DCS and the Su27 is one of my favorite planes. The fact that this thing (irl) can pull 10 G's sustained (doesnt matter to gaijin because their G counter is completely useless) is absolutely amazing and I wish that the flight model and r77 would be better. Sure the r77 isnt as good as something like the Aim120 Amraam irl either, but it is on par with the aim120a. When the 120c is added, however, that will open a whole new problem since the Russians even in 2024, have no missiles capable of being as good as the AmraamC. Anyways, long time fan from sub 1k here and keep up the excellent work! Your jump from 1k to 3k was almost instant! (edit: I might not play a ton of toptier this update because I don't really agree with fox 3s coming so soon.)

Hey, first of all thank you. And separate big thanks for sticking with me! Missiles in WT all suffer from mid-flight oscillations making them lose energy quicker compared to DCS way of coding missiles. Su-27s flight model overall is pretty funny in its implementation. We'll see if Gaijin decides to do something about it, as they've done with MiG-23 or F-16 FMs.

@@InkTattooHyenaPhoenix are heavily nerfed in game lmao. They have a speed of Mach 4.3 when it should be 5.0 and the g pull should be 24g not 17g. And the F-14A misses the AIM-9L and the F-14B misses the AIM-9M. They introduced them nerfed and are still weak, especially with new fox 3.

@@rakamakaffoI keep trying to looks up how good the R-37 is. And it’s total shit😂 yeah it can maybe go Mach 6 for a tiny bit, but there aren’t really much of any confirmed kills and it says Ukrainians are forced to go defensive but even they can dodge them with old migs and aircraft. I thought the R-37 irl could be good but I guess only on paper and in video games because I’m not seeing an effective combat record compared to the amraam that is the most combat tested.

Right now there is a temporary meta don't take flares, and just take Fox 3s. So many top tier players still thing IRRCM is a bigger threat and only take flares. You need chaff to hold off the initial Fox 3 spam but you can easily stay out of IR range if you Boom and Zoom and get easy kills, for now.

because of switching counter measures, you should always take some flares, though maybe less. One surprise r27et will fuck up your spacing real quick

The Su-35 before it was renamed Su-35. If people ever ask for the Su-35 you can tell them it's already in the game. Of gaijin wants to add the 35, all they gotta do is change the cockpit a little. A great copy paste opportunity.

35 has better radar and RWR though theres several upgrade models in between them even. the SM is a "mid" life extension upgrade, the SM2 adds a better radar and RWR the SM3 adds more powerful engines. The 35 improves all 3. none of that really matters though. Fuck the R77 we need R77-1 at least.

Agreed. WT's instructor and game designer are ruining it. This jet is well known for pulling crazy AoA. In game it's a flying brick. Overall su27sm is one of the worst jets at 13.0, worst fm, worst missiles, worst radar, also it's huge. Such a disgrace to subhuman calling himself a game designer whom implemented su27 in that way. No skill issue here, still k\d 2+ on it, and I consider it unplayable if your opponents have at least one brain cell.
