SWAC bands do know the importance of control, balance, intonation, and articulation as well, but who wants to hear a melodramatic concert band at a football game? In the SWAC, we want to hear power, force, and aggression coming from the band ALONG with good musicianship. Its not easily done, but the ones who can make that happen correctly stand out from the rest instead of just being another regular band.
Doesn't matter.. it's about balance. Control.. not over blowing... And staying in tune.. and fam has that.. but I give it to su for the loudness and high notes.. but not the quality of sound... It's like surround sound vs mono..
Thank you!!!! That’s what I’ve been trying to explain to people for years! Yes, SWAG music departments until musicality but at a football game, you want excitement! We can go to a concert later…
This was my first game as a crab at SU!!!! No matter what anybody say its different when u facing your opponents & we out played FAMU & blew them out!!! MASTER PHI BLASTER 07 (baritone section)
This was a damn good game for band heads. Arguably two of the best bands locking horns for like 2 hrs. worth of footage. That is a lot of playing for both bands. Could the football teams hear at all during the game? RU-vid over saturates us with band exposure, but for those of us that missed this, it gives us a taste of just how crazy good this event was.
I recently got involved in listening to black college bands. I am a black man. I am not looking for negatives. I love listening to the entertainment of it. Not judging either school. Love seeing these kid doing something. Instead of hearing one of them killed, prisoned, or drugged. So it makes me feel good when they are doing something. GOD bless them all. No hater here on no black college school band doing psitive things. Love Southern U. Never went to college did the Military thing. Good Show.
FAMU is all about musicianship, coming from a trumpet player. Like Kevin Hill states, large numbers with balance makes the difference. Not blasting out notes like many SWAC bands.
Famu drill was forward march. 8 TTR. Forward March 8. TTR. And hault. Lol. Guess band camp that year was not productive. From song selection. Stands and half time. Su got that one.
everybody have something to say abt the box but that shut people up everyone say the 100 is better the boom the aggies but the box just show up and crank out oldie or something you would expect for them to play and it takes my breath away i heard a woman that went to Ohio buckeyes and she said she loves the jukebox and can not get enough of them get the marching band poll and see where yall band ranks
Christopher Jay 3rd of the size?? Clearly you don’t understand balance, famu percussions and woodwinds are probably the size of southerns band, so I guess the woodwinds are suppose to play super C’s lol
All I see are people asking what song is SU playing at such and such of time. Lol. When you play everything at 200% volume it's hard to make out the tune.
+AaronMarcusPayne They're asking because we play a lot of tunes that folks never heard of, thus exposing them to new music that they may have never encountered on their own. Most people never heard of Two Hearts, Wouldn't Change a Thing About You, I Keep Forgetting, and I Remember until we played it. Sweet Escape turned out to be a very popular song too.
lol doesn't matter what volume your playing at...they are clear enough to understand what they are playing...I could understand every song SU plays..if you know much you do..if you don't then you dont
AaronMarcusPayne I mean the song they were playing were pretty much to the point... I keep forgetting and sweet escape and etc they were easy to tell.. And I was sitting across field from them on this day in my FAMU uniform. Could definitely tell then. .
@SourSKittl3z two hearts arranged by the legendary SU arranger the Late Mr. Carnell Knighten. That was a cold ass song wasn't it. That's why no one can funk with us. FALL 93 FOR LIFE!!!!!!
one thing I must ask is, why was SU louder in the stands than they were on the field? Famu don't have that problem because we give every note it's proper value according to musical standards. Hubba Hundred
They don't move..............they're not marching down the field doing drills, most of the show is in CONCERT FORMATION. And their standing in FRONT of the CAMERA. Simple ass ANSWER, to a dumb ass STATEMENT
where is the marching 100 at now still playing its the ice cream man by master p Su makes headlines then and now yall can say what you wnt. Anit no dance time messing wit the dolls unless they dancing like a luke video the doll are class. marching 100 is not mention like the jukebox youtube views proves the jukebox is trending
famu has a much better sense of a how there band sounds than SU. SU sounds like the trumpets said fuck it everyman for themselves, while FAMU kept how the sctual song sounded in their heads
My thing is they are different styles but why have woodwinds and you cant hear them when SU played Do what you wanna why didnt they swac that???? Cuz Music is suppose to blend. As Arrangements go Famu has more parts per section than SU Everybody plays the same thing you can tell by the why they breathe every note. Whole notes (SU). And the largest section in SU you cant hear the sousaphones ? Im not a fan of the play loud as hell but to say SU suck they do not they have very good musicians but to play loud as hell is just primitive to me but to each its own. they sound good when you can hear their band.
SU has a good book but Famu got this one. Can't believe I'm saying this as a BCU marching wildcat but it is what it is. EVERYTHING SU plays is only 1 volume LOUD!!! They need more tone and intonation. They control that and stop blasting and screamingon everything they will a problem for sure. Good battle though.
Idk if u notices but FAMU's vice versa was actually better then SU's because yeah SU was louder but they sounded nasty. But The Thing Is FAMU Their Notes Were Cleaner. SU Was Loud But They Sounded Nasty.
Looking at dis video 12 years later ..... Fam was big af ...... Numbers did go wit da sound ... Southern since den has been on they shit up to now but back den fam definitely won based on quality balanced and musicality .... Su was loud ... Not perfect on every song...
This was my crab season in the Jukebox. I remember that year. It's wasn't a good year for us. Had alot of youngsters who only cared about being HEARD opposed to HOW they were heard. That was then tho. Nobody fuckin with us na 😎.
+MrSonicboom1 it's OK to be biased because you like the boom. but I fuck with the boom and the juke... the truth is both bands are ahead of any other band..they are 1a 1b...that's just the truth...but juke fans will say they way past and boom fans going say they are way past. nothing wrong with being biased but somebody gotta keep it real lol
i will forever be an SU fan but i would be wrong if I didn't speak the truth. this is my 1st time seeing SU getting outclassed like this! I give it to them for holding their own, but we're simply out classed in musicianship and sound quality/clarity. as far as quantity, yes FAMU was larger in size but SU still matched them in power can't deny that. but damn FAMU dug in that ass. it sounded like high school vs college like SU was not prepared at all for this type of stage
Dayvon Savage no i actually do. SU fans always make the bad habit of just dismissing other bands because they're so caught up in SU just being the best and no one can match or out do them. But to not admit when someone else besides your favorite does well is dishonest and biased. Im not a biased person when it comes to keeping a fair opinion about something. FAMU caught them slipping in this video. Whether u like it or not FAMU sound crisp, clean, and had power. SU only matched their power, but not crisp clean note for note. U cant even call yourself a musician if u say that u didnt hear SU sound sloppy in most of those songs. Ive heard the U play wayyyyy better than what was heard in this video Just keep it 100, everybody has their bad days, maybe they just wasnt vibing in this game. I dont know, but i do know its nothing like the SU im used to hearing. Did u actually watch the video?
Su and Jsu would beat famu and bcu anyday just from the simple fact that people want excitement shire you can play clean but if the other band is doing that and playing louder then they are going to win in people's eyes and now Su will kill anybody idk what happened but they been on a hit list this year and in my opinion talledega would kill famu too
+EGLANDJOSEPH The fact that you don't care about playing cleanly with good tone and articulation, no matter the setting, shows that you aren't a true musician. Off and on the field or in the stands, FAMU keeps true musicianship going.
EGLANDJOSEPH Su and clean don't go together at all they're loud and entertaining but not clean or in tune really ever. And talladega can't beat any hbcu band lol. There's also already video evidence of Cookman stomping Su so all that's keepin y'all in it is Jsu lol
@marionmarion6852 tubas definitely are. Bones DEFINITELY aren't, mellos aren't either. Su doesn't have the same powerhouse sections they previously had besides their euphos 🤷🏽
@TheDragonmaster18 You should understand that you aren't REALLY supposed to say that, then.... I'm not in the 100'd (I am a Juke, crabbed 2004) but, as a bandhead, I will say you should respect their history, heritage and hard work and dedication, and just leave it for them to say.
I enjoy watching two bands with totally different styles going at each other...A lot of people think SU is the best when the fact of the matter is FAMU is much better because rather than out blow and get out of tune and lose control of the note the just play with a nice full sound so you can understand exactly what they are playing. SU can be so hell bent on blowin you can't understand what they are playing. I should know what i'm talking about i'm a band director.
I just wanna know when did SU saxophones start dancing?? LMAO!!! I know you guys are at a swac meac challenge, but come on, man thats grambling all day and the moves are even gramblings exact moves!!!!
@amphowar Quick question! Do you think that FAM or BCC can play SUs arrangements with the same range and intensity? Let these same two bands exchange arrangements and Im sure SU wouldnt have any problem playing them with the range as well as intensity or lack there of as FAM. Can you say the same?
you are absolutely correct on how we derived our sound but i dont know if at the end that was slight diss to our program ay any rate we are the best hands down jukkkkkkkkkkkkke
People need to stop. Famu's music barely resembles the actual songs. Very jard to het a read on. And yes this is a battle, and being blown out by a band 1/4 of your size is embarrassing. Ijs.
FAMU only had this sound in 07 because of their size; now that they're the size of an average band(actually smaller) they are pitiful. Really ! SOUTHERN on the other hand , they give you the same full sound regardless of the size. Glad the 100 got reinstated last year ; they're just no match for the JUKEBOX !
Agreed. In fact, just about all of their fast songs sound square like a corps style band playing the stock arrangements of r&b music. Their ballads are always beautiful though.
