Subaru Crosstrek First Drive 

It’s a surprise the boot is so small since this is basically a hatchback version of the latest Outback. We had the last XV and even though on paper it was small it was actually very practical but have to say the overall car did feel like it needed an update. This is more than a mid-life facelift though

If it had been a bit longer to improve the boot size it would have been a great all rounder but still good nevertheless. Good review. 👍

I prefer the American Crosstrek with its 2.5L engine rather than the 2.0L U.K. version that has now managed to reduce the power from 152bhp to 136 BHP. Why? This is the only reason I haven’t bought one yet I was hoping that eventually we would get the bigger engine or at least a turbo. I’m so disappointed as this could have been the perfect car for everyone. American also get more versions like Sport, wilderness and they also get a Harmon Kardon sound system so yes the U.K. are very much short changed telling us that Subaru are not interested in the U.K. market.

So it’s not that powerful, it’s not especially economical for a compact hybrid; it’s not that well appointed and it’s heavier than a non hybrid. What’s the point of it? Subaru have short changed UK customers compared with US spec versions and it’s soundly thrashed in most areas by the Rav4, the XC40, the CRV and others. It’s so slow it’s a 1970’s throwback. Why would anyone buy one over the competition?
