I mostly built a 3” exhaust system for my gc8 Impreza. You’re probably thinking why didn’t you just buy one? I already had a 2.5” Haywood and Scott silencer lying around and some random 3” pipework off of other cars. I had already fitted a borg Warner efr and made a custom up pipe. I had to also make a custom down pipe that interfaced to a normal Semi standard system. To make things easier I have placed to more joints within the front/down pipe for two main reasons:
I now have the flexibility to change the v band position and type on a small section of pipe if I want to fit a different turbo (gtx3076 coming soon). The V band section can also be fitted first and the rest of the pipe just slips on after.
The second v band allows for a rotation in the whole system. This allows it to be aligned perfectly on the car. 3” is a large system on a small car like a gc8 and it’s nice not to have it banging around.
The front bracket has been added for the six speed location (down pipe) and there is a flexi as the down pipe comes under the car. The standard flexi isn’t present with 3” and many people neglect it. So the down pipe cracks at the first joint under the car.
Most of its talking. Just a video to show you what I’ve done.
