We are back with a Rally Icon Track Battle, but this time in the shape or a Subaru Impreza Type RA against a Mitsibushi Evo VIII MR.
With the Evo having more power than the Subaru, it does actually weight more and also the Subaru has gone more bias to the rear wheels, so what will happen? Place your bets in the comments!!

I had a Type RA back in 2003ish, it was mental! Got a 13.11 quarter mile bog standard at the scooby shootout event, the short ratio box is perfectly matched to the engine.

Had a 450bhp STi RA and a 430bhp Evo 8 MR, the Evo could be driven a lot faster easier but the RA was more fun to drive

Have different emotion. Evo without active rear diff is lot worse in driving than Subaru.

How come it wasn't a 2004 Blobeye vs a 04 Evo? There was talks about the Subaru not having this and that yet the Subaru wasn't the same generation as the Evo.

Ive alwayys thought the Subaru GC8 wrx/sti is great bang for your buck, super light weight and still wayyy cheaper to buy than any EVO.

the scoobs turn in is massively variable by setup with the ARBs ,,my newage sti with some decent suspension ,turn in is excellent, the Evos feels completely different though,hard to pin down really, although definite improvement in mid corner grip over most imprezas ,,the impreza is better on real roads away from the track,,all assuming not worn out etc🤙

@@marcperrett662 I agree completely, and no two are the same. They also adapt to different driving styles, you need to properly throw a scooby around and left foot brake, I found mitsi, like smooth inputs.

Ahhh I’ve always been torn between the two. Had a GC8 WRX and a PPP Bug eye and best mate had a brand new 8 MR 260 and still has it. Bone stock UK car with less than 40k. Those pair on channel are 2 icons from a great era.

The evo was 500hp track tyres and stripped out,Alconbury brakes, impreza was 1/2 second slower but 200hp down on road tyres and cast 4 pot brakes, I'd happily head to head that with some proper tyres on the impreza and brakes upgraded at 300hp

i had number 0768/1000 555 type RA bought it in 09 {ex Japan} sold it in 14 just before i moved to the philippines and got married to a local girl…of all the cars iv’e owned ,including a sierra cosworth-2000-2013 i regret selling the scoob , mine was actually dyno’d at 300bhp and it was mind blowingly fast ! the cossie was fast (380 bhp) but the scoob being so much lighter than the cossie was just insane ! ..i’d buy it back in a heartbeat if i could find it again..its identical to the one in the video

Fairer test would have been an RS version of the Evo. The RA has a very short ratio box and is a couple of hundred kilos lighter, which makes a huge difference.All the power doesn’t go to the rear, on the RA, its around 60/40 or 65/35......my memory fails me! Both lovely cars, though, except for that hellish looking aftermarket spoiler on the RA.

factory fit genuine sti spoiler available only on these version 6s and then factory fit on the s201and yes its not 100% rwd its a rear biased split,agree with an rs in compasrison although the rs evo gear ratios are the same 1-3 so would only benefit once on 4th gear which at blyton isnt used anywhere near as 2nd and 3rd. the Evo technology wise blind a impreza, there is a reason mitsubishi never really evolved the evo mechanically through Rally and thats because they were winning and they work, Hands down the Evo is the better car

@@dave280585 I cannot believe thats factory fit, as iv never seen it on any v6, but i stand corrected if its true! Iv owned a type r and spec c impreza and have owned 7 different iterations of evo. Iv still got a 700hp 5RS and 480hp 6RS and the impreza type r, with its close ratios and adjustable diff is the closest, in driving feel , to those evos. I would love another type R or RA, but its very rare you see one for sale.👍🏻

The Evo everytime. Faster, handling is sharper, engine is far more tuneable. The Impreza is the car you pick when you can't afford to run an Evo.

The RA has no electrics as the Evo 8 MR has a lot more trick bits and yes I’ve owned both and the Evo was far easier to drive
