After doing research this will work for 2015's. Depending on the type of key you have. The key in this video is a laser cut. My 2015 XV Crosstrek premium has non laser cut keys. The difference is the blank blade. Laser cut will be flat and smooth. Non laser cut will have a line/grove down it.
Wow this might be an old video but does it make sense ? For the original key to work, it would also need a transponder inside the case. So this appears to be a case of deactivating the spare to end up with a new folding key with two transponders inside, and an unusable spare.
Only 1 transponder would end up in the key the legacy key has the transponder in the case of the car not the button part also if you want to still do this you can swap the transponders from the keys and cut the legacy key to work with your car
@chriscraftpro3246 yes, I understand. I've done such a case swap but I used the transponder from the old legacy key which essentially turned it into an emergency door opener since it then had no transponder. I've never had that 3 button remote with any of my Subarus, so I am not familiar with the location of its transponder. Therefore, I wondered why you had to use the spare key's chip.
Awesome video, great upgrade mod, any chance do you think this will work for the 18' STi's it's the same key you did the video with? My question is the dealer only gave me 2 keys, where did u get the key that has the rubber with the transponder? Thanks.
Oh yea that true, but the code should come with the key on a separate pice of paper. Im working on a video on how to program the key and ill make sure to mention the code. thanks
I have a 2008 WRX and bought the Key Part Number you provided 57497AJ10A as well as the switchblade key, I did exactly as the video, but took the car and the new key to Subaru today to have the electronic fob programmed but my cars BIU does not accept it, the dealer tried programming the FOB and it would not pair with my car all they were able to do was register the key. There has to be another transmitter that works with my car. Do you know which one for the 08/ WRX?
Instead of doing a switch blade key, could I just simply program the Legacy Key Remote and use it for my 05 wrx? Also, what are the years for the Legacy Remote Key? Thanks!
I've gotten everything needed from your video however, when I attempt to program the legacy buttons to my 2008 impreza the car accepts the code but the remote doesn't work when I hit the buttons. Any solutions to this?
I have an 05 forester XS. a friend of mine did this with his 04 and his had the transponder chip but neither of my keys have that. can i still do this conversion?
i just got mine at amazon, however the blink or the key blade is a blank blade and my original key is a non laser cut with a line, do u think that a locksmith can copy my original key? or can i just use the key blade on my valet key,cut with the same length and put it in key fob shell. please let me know. tnx
If your key is not later cut and the blank key is a laser cut. It will not work because they are totally different keys. You will need a blank non laser key, in order for it to work.
+MrImprezaWRX, thank you...do u think its possible to use the exsisting key blade on my vallet parking key and transfer to the key fob shell? cut and resize the key blade?
Dude, I have a 2014 wrx sedan, and my stock key fob says the FCC ID is CWTWB1U819, and under ur description u said that the Legacy key fob has to be CWTWB1U811, does the legacy FCC ID have to match with my wrx? or the CWTWB1U811 Legacy fob will actually work? I'm a little confused. Need ur help bro, thx
ohh now you have me a little confused lol. You have to make sure that FCC ID I provided is for the legacy key, because thats the the ID that could be program to the WRX. I don't believe that the WRX FCC ID And the Legacy ID match up.
+HizokuxD If you have everything thats in the video then you shouldn't need anything els. All you need it the 1.legacy key (for the remote that is in the key) 2. Switchblade key shell 3. The small transponder (that is inside your stock key) That is all you need
Justin Yang you could, if you don't want to do the switchblade key. all you have to do is cut the legacy key take out the chip from one of your stock key, and program it.
Got it here, www.ebay.com/itm/Subaru-Flip-Key-Shell-Conversion-Kit-3-1-US-Seller-/111030697166?hash=item19d9f1fcce&vxp=mtr the person I took my key to get cut failed at it so what I did was dremel my existing key to fit into the shell. Good luck!
