With the right tires, all of these vehicles would do fine. I have an old all wheel drive Subaru that slips and slides in the snow but is rock solid with studless traction tires. My wife's Mazda sedan does fine in the snow with studless traction tires and her vehicle is front wheel drive only.

No awd with winter tires should fail on that hill. I have an 01 forester and my wife 13 sorento and both would make it up that.

@@itsnotme-jl9jt If they all have snow tires the same thing applies, just at a steeper angle. A torque vectoring system like Honda's VTM would make it up this. The Kia Sorento does not have that, it's a simple "slip then grip" system like all these other failures.

Subarus are outstanding in the snow. I always struggled with snow driving, and then I got an Outback and I don't think I can ever go back to any other kind of car. My Outback goes through snow like it's not even there.

No matter what flavor of AWD you decide to go with, Subaru does a solid for having AWD in 95pct of their cars. Though, I still prefer my SH AWD and I still throw on different rims and snow tires on the winter. If you have AWD get some snow tires , you create a nice winter monster.

Another viewer showed me an article where they tested that vehicle and it couldn't perform when only 1 front tire was given traction. Their traction control was not up to the quality that Subaru provides. Their multi-clutch left and right rear drive module works great though!

@slandshark
@slandshark 2 года назад
@@738polarbear There's actually very very few cars that come even close to Subaru. Check out the video titled: "Best SUVs off-road: Top 12 medium SUVs compared - some fail to make it!" from 2022, youtuber "CarExpert". Of the 12 SUV/Crossover's they tested, only 4 passed all the tests...1 of which was Subaru. The other 3: Mitsubishi Outlander, Hyundai Tucson, and the Haval H6. Which one's failed? Ford Escape, Honda CR-V, Jeep Compass, Kia Sportage, Mazda CX-5, Nissan X-Trail, Toyota Rav4, and the Volkswagen Tiguan... All were using the best dirt/offroad modes available. A surprising number of them had AWD systems that overheated and shut down mid-test after only a few moments. Other's were just simply not capable at all of tackling the course (didn't overheat, but couldn't move the vehicle up the hills). So 8 years later, Subaru has almost no competition that comes close to their AWD system.

use the right tire and know how to drive. ;-) my neighbor has a Forester and we made it in on our road during a heavy snow, when they didn't. driver ability..we had the exact same tires too. put on around the same time. if you put new snow tires on all of these, All of them would have made it. since they didn't show the tires, which they could have by standing next to the vehicles as they pulled up, it would have made it easier for us to determine why some made it, and others didn't. how did the Lexus make it as far as it did, then all of a sudden stop? I'm not hating, I'm just pointing stuff out. i run Mastercraft HSX or Altimax RT43's on my 2 RAV4's, or Firestone Winterforce..General Altimax Arctic Ice Studded Snow Tires on my 2013 now..never been stuck yet. i live in the mountains and they're curvy and steep. makes it hard on Any vehicle when the snow is 20".
@tubemember21
@tubemember21 7 лет назад
I can tell you for a fact that the Stock Potenza's on the forester were just about as bad as any summer tires in the snow. Complete garbage, and I'm betting the dealership making this video didn't put snow tires on a brand new vehicle just for a gimmicky video. I have a 2012 Forester X and swapped out the OEM tires with RT43s after the first snowfall. Subaru has an unbeatable AWD system. And it's standard on a sub $20k SUV. I have never been stuck in any type of snow or ice. You want that type of system you're paying $40k+ for an Acura. I'll stay with my Subaru.
@MemphisMojo15s

tubemember21 my neighbors 2011 Forester hasn't made a believer out of me yet in the snow...as a matter of fact her husband claimed how well my 2 vehicles do in the snow, because his wife couldn't get in their driveway, and we all had the same tire..RT43's. he had to get in and get 2 runs at it. in everyone's defense, though, the snow was 16". my wife does great in the snow as long as the tires are good. I've ran RT43's on both vehicles and am pleased with them. since these people making this video took these vehicles from their used inventory, as long as the tires will pass inspection, they're on the lot. my tires on my 2010 RAV4 were barely legal when I bought my car. 2 years old, Bridgestone runflats..terrible tires.. had they did this test with my car and those tires then, the result would have been the same. I use studded snow tires on both of my cars and I have a video of my car on a steep hill, covered in hard packed snow, and just for kicks and giggles, you should come check out the result..your AWD is as good as your tires..

@@torparnorpan8362 I'm just saying that every car can have the stock tires that they came with but both Subaru cars tested here were new cars? Lot of people arguing on here, but I’ve tested a lot of cars in the snow, and Subaru’s Symmetrical AWD system is absolutely amazing. I’ve done a very similar test with an Outback with 5 people in it, where I’d fully stopped on a steep incline that was snow packed so hard it may as well have been ice, and I set off with barely a wheel slipping. Truly amazing system. My review of it here: carproductstested.com/cars/subaru-outback-tested-tough-cookie-over-tough-terrain/

Comparing new cars (with new tires) to used cars (with worn tires). Put a new set of Bridgestone Blizzacks on all those SUVs and I bet they would all climb the hill. The Subaru probably still does have a better AWD system, but the tires are the dominant factor. Also tire pressure matters...I assume that all vehicles had about the same tire pressure.

It’s a rigged video. The Ford Flex has a very capable all wheel drive system. It has the ability to send power to the wheels that lose traction. If you re-watch the video you can see the brake lights on constantly. They were intentionally hitting the brakes to prevent forward momentum. For the Kia, once it made momentum they would deliberately let off the accelerator so it would lose momentum and roll backwards. It’s completely bogus.

This is a awful video ... I have a Traverse and it's a tank in the snow (literally its heavy as hell) with those huge narrow tires. It handled West Virginia's mountains in January with most of traffic pulled over. So this is hard to believe it can't go up this little hill, and also .... it's way to heavy and takes almost full throttle to make the tires spin, slightly push the pedal and it would have scaled it with even slightly good tires.

I have a new Subaru Crosstrek. I believe Subaru's can do that. My wife also has a 2005 Kia Sorento. I believe it too can also make that hill as we've done in Seattle, Portland, Or., and Lake Stevens where we now live. We mostly drive the Kia in front wheel drive mostly in the snow and it handles excellent. With 4 wheel high, the vehicle is a monster, and in 4-low, a super beast. We do have Open County tires on them though. I can't speak for the newer Kia's, but our old gal is a snow plow. I'd like to see the Kia in 4-high on this test. But as always, when comparing other cars in the snow with a Subaru, most of them will loose.

to be fair, the rav 4 and kia, I think have all wheel lock options so you should have pushed those buttons, if you didn't.. cause it allows all 4 wheels to have power, like a subaru (not exactly same, but at least into true 4 wheel drive) and those two, in that mode, would have made it up the hill as well... Just saying.. that said, the Subi's are still awesome awd and I am planning on buying a forester this fall

@wiciuwiciu2783
@wiciuwiciu2783 Год назад
Locking differentials isn't always the best idea. For many reasons; -all 4 wheels DO NOT receive the same amount of torque, especially in horizontally mounted engines!! (99% of cars) -one wheel can gain traction, while second would dig into the snow/sand and you'll get stuck. -in corners, outer wheels would actually BLOCK the cars movement. Of course it only applies to snow/sand/gravel or wet tarmac. Mud, rock climbing and steep heels are way different

Put the competition on all-season tires, while the Subarus are on winter tires, and you get a video like this.

I call bullshit to be quite honest. Traction control was turned off on all of the other vehicles which is why the wheels are spinning freely. If it was left on, they'd have a hugely better chance. Or if the driver had anything but a lead foot. I love Subarus, almost bought an STI instead of my S4 quattro. But this is bullshit
@medicalrecordsinc
@medicalrecordsinc 8 лет назад
+thewisegoat Thats not the reason at all. All the other cars send power to the front wheels first, since the front wheels cant get enough traction they spin and THEN send power to the rear differential. By the time the power goes to the rear, the font ones have spun a few times, causing the snow to melt into ice due to the friction(essentially digging a hole) and by the time the power does get to the back its usually to late. The two Subarus are sending power to the back always and there is no shuffling of power between the wheels, it just goes. Turning traction control on or off would not have affected the results because all of these cars use algorithms and the breaking system in order to control wheels spin on these open front and rear differential cars.

Turn traction control off and it’ll do much better.

The tires on every other car than a subaru look much cleaner than those on the subarus, looks almost like the subarus got either much better tires or even snow chains. Since the video quality is terrible you cant really tell.

I dont think they tested the suvs fair i really don’t believe none of those suvs cant make it up that. I know subaru is great but im sure other could have made it up. Just what i think idk i might be wrong.

Subaru build one of the best awd. No doubt. But with shitty tires there will go nothing. The same to driver skills. To much throttle and there goes nothing. Why is there never a compedition with mitsubishi? The AWD on my Pajero Sport K90 is awesome too. And it's not permanent awd.

So lame they give no throttle and there is a magic button called traction push it and give it some throttle and makes those wheels spin and don’t let off

zibby Jdm I don't believe half these videos anymore the ones in snow are the best cause you can see when they let off the gas and let the car slide my dad has a CRV and it's pretty good but I have to say that the AWD system in the A series cars is serious buisness and goes toe to toe with Subaru I don't know about the Q series and I honestly don't care because I have 0 interest in SUV's or crossovers if I need AWD it's not from an SUV.

No it's not, if AWD wasn't part of the comparison, you at least get better tires for the price, if tires were actually the reason why Subaru made it.

this isn't a fair test u guys go slap winter tires on all subaru cars. and the rest of the cars have all season tires this isn't a fair test. I mean an idiot would notice that the tires here play a big role in getting up that hill
