Ok my concern is do I really have to take out the whole engine block out of the car engine bay to replace the Water Pump on it though ? Can I replace the Water Pump while the engine is still inside the car ?
@davidraycaldwell96
@davidraycaldwell96 4 года назад
@@HuuTonyTran Absolutely you can do it with the motor in the car. However, once you rip an EJ out of it's body a couple times, if you have a place to do it and the tools, you'll quickly realize it's almost not worth the hassle to leave it in the car when doing this sort of engine work. If you have an engine lift, an impact wrench, and an engine rotisserie, you can have that motor out in half an hour. Then doing ANY engine work instantly simplified. Tight spaces are great at making you contemplate life and also NEVER want to do mechanical work again. HAHA Anyhow, you can do it, but it may be tight. If you do it, do yourself a favor and remove the entire radiator. You have to drain the cooling system anyhow, so you may as well remove the two bolts it takes to take out the radiator. It will make your life so much easier. That is all. -- David -- Shameless Subaru Addict

Sometimes the people in these instructional videos talk about random stuff while doing work or even the sound of their voice gets real annoying and unbearable. I am putting your videos to good use because I just picked up a 1998 Legacy Outback with a slew of problems. I couldn't pass up a $200 bargain. I have to say that on a 2007 Forester, this job is a bastard, even with the radiator out. The gasket and bolts do not remain in place when seating the water pump so I had to come up with a a method using elastic bands to keep everything in place. Another problem I had was with the Protex water pump not having a machined channel for the rubber seal that runs along one side of the pump (as the original pump had). The seal sat very proud making it impossible to align the bolts so I had to slice the seal in half in order to make the water pump fit. Be warned that a Protex Blue water pump may not be the best choice.

Mr Subaru, I'm a subscriber and I'm crossing my fingers that you look at the messages from your older videos. I'd like your recommendation on what brand oil pump to buy for my 2005 Baja (SOHC). The lowest price genuine Subaru oil pump from various Subaru online sellers is more than twice the price of various brands of aftermarket pumps. I'm installing a Timing Belt Kit with Water Pump from AISIN as per your recommendation and I want to also replace the oil pump while I'm at it. What brand Oil Pump do you recommend? If there's no way you can recommend an aftermarket Oil Pump then I guess I'll have to break down and spend the money on a genuine Subaru pump but I'd like to hear that from you. Your the only guy I trust on these questions. Many Thanks!

Would a bad water pump on a EJ20 cause the coolant to be over-pressurized? I have overflow at the resevoir. Changed cap, thermostat, burped the system, and did a block test that came back neg for a bad head gasket. I'm baffled at this point.

I just changed my engine in my 2009 Subaru Impreza outback sport. I was having overheating issues then bled the coolant system, now it’s just at idle and when I drive again it cools down, not trying to start with the water pump. It is not leaking any coolant and does have a new thermostat any suggestions?
