Pretty damn good for summer tires. I had summer only slicks (Achilles AT/R Sport) on my wagon. They stuck to the blacktop like glue and did ok on the dirt and gravel, but they were useless in the snow. If this was just with summer tires, you'll be crazy impressed when you put a set of snow tires on. Been using Firestone Winterforce's for years now and they are great for the price and last about 3-4 seasons (NOV-APR) before the tires finally lose too much grip and start darting out in the corners.

This was me last week when we got a foot of snow here on Cape Cod. Just bought a '10 WRX a week before thanksgiving. I havent had the chance to get snow/winter wheels and tires and still have the low pro summers on. I didnt get stuck one bit either. I love it.

Nice car I own the 2007 Outback Sport SE and I love it!!! It was fun listening to the blow off valve while you were plowing snow. Kinda of sounded like the blow off valve was pissed off it had to work so much LOL!!! I love the rally style lights on the front.

That is exactly the colour and rims that i want if i one day buy one! I live far north with not always the snow plower coming by during the winter. Also the strong wind from the mountains gather uneven piles of snow on the roads, kinda like nature's own speedbumps. lol

With summer tires.... lol. Having owned a WRX with Blizzaks on it, it's unstoppable in the winter.

yup, love the WRX. Ive had my '05 hatch for about 4 years now and its still runnin smooth at 95,000 miles

lmao this got me laughing. nicely done, sir. that intake sounds fresh. I wish aftermarket installs were that easy on the 2013...apparently there are all kinds of problems unless you get an AP with whatever install and retune it :/ there goes the warranty. guess I'm waiting 3 years

When it hit 20 inches is Chicago.....it was my brothers Subaru Impreza that helped me drive past Jeeps and Semi's. It helps to know how to drive in the snow too...but Subaru has a new customer :)

Thank you for the compliment man. Its not often a Mitsu owner complements a scooby but the way I see it Mitsu and Scoobys should be friends. That bov is stock believe it or not and even with low profile tires this always wiggles free from deep stuff even if it takes a few minutes. Next winter I hope to have crappy rims with snow tires to mount on during the winter months and swap these low profiles with the rims back on in the spring summer and fall.

finally someone who appreciates a fine piece of machinery no matter the make. People can have their personal opinions, so do I (STI any day!), but we should at least all give each other respect instead of hate :)

Great video. Just bought my '13 WRX Premium sedan in World Rally Blue, counting down the days until they install my factory options and I can drive it. Love the light bar, definitely will be investigating that. Subaru forever.

I owned an 07' WRX. I had Dunlop Winter Sport M3's on it during the winter months. There was a record setting 21" snowfall in March, 2008 that pretty much shut down our city. The side street I live on wasn't plowed yet. My car plowed through it!. In fact, I pulled a guy stuck in his Colorado Z71 with my tow strap!

Yup... had to watch it again.... No special snow or mud tires. Can't imagine what it can do with right tires on. Impressive!

Thanks man! The haters are the ones calling friends to tow them out or mommy and daddy. Anybody who has ever driven a Subaru in the snow knows what they are capable of.

@kirstyandmagic It won't get choked up, it will just push the snow out of the muffler when he hits the gas. If the snow melts inside the muffler it doesn't matter either, all you have to do is run the car a little while and it will evaporate the water. Kind of like condensation build-up in the morning, only more of it.

@loweredtalon Hey thanks for the compliment. The bov is stock. I have an SPT intake on the car and that makes the noise much more noticeable. Yours will do the same if you get the SPT intake.

@gesalbte wrx always have equal power front and rear, the reason why the front wheels have apparently no power is because it have an open differential up front, so when the rear wheels are spinning and the front wheel that we see seems to have no power, the other front wheel we dont see is spinning. all equipped with 5 spd manual gearbox have the full time awd 50/50 front/rear

@tenkese It is a rally innovations light bar that you can get straight from their website. The lights are 4 of the Hella 500's that I got from the Rally Armor site. Rally Innovations will have a lightbar for your wrx wagon. Just make sure you get lights that fit. The Hella 500s are tight but fit.

What he means by scuba exhaust is a so called snorkel. Usually used on offroad vehicles on intake side to make sure the engine doesnt get dust/water/dirt. On exhaust side snorkels are not that usual but make sure your exhaust doesnt run full of water when driving through a small lake/river. The Scooby in this case doen't need either. The intake is protected enough by being under the hood and the exhaust produces more than enough pressure to not care about some snow.

@JDMhypebeast My 2007 WRX sounds just like that. It's just an aftermarket intake. The stock intake has a silencer on it. As for the blowoff valve (BOV) they will usually lessen the performance of a subaru. Subaru builds them stock with a bypass valve. (BPV)

@davemidnightclub **Correct me** if i'm wrong but I believe WRX's are only equipped with open diffs, meaning there's only power coming from front driver side wheel, and rear passenger side wheel. And STI's are the ones equipped with LSD.

Owning a WRX STi automatic, worrying about gravel on the road, not what subaru had in mind engeneering that car, but thx for supporting them anyways :)

I had an 06 STi that was tons of fun in the snow. The only downfall is that they're low to the ground and all that snow gets caught underneath, other then that they are gods!

@xxartemis8xx The ECU will put more torque on the rear wheels as default. It only transfers a lot of torque to the front wheels when it senses rear wheels spinning.

I live in pa also and just got a 2016 wrx, also picked up some general winter tires, can't freekin wait!!!!!!

@MyMuschilover On the STi models you have the option for full lock or up to 75% power at the rear. I believe WRX models are full time Variable 50/50

you don't need a good car to plow through such snow, soft tires, skill and patience are the key

My bov which is recirculating is stock. The SPT intake just makes it sound aftermarket. I assure you I am doing no damage...

I remember last winter I was out at our farm with my WRX and was going up the drive to go out, we had gotten a hell of a lot of snow that week that when I drove up the hill my car got stuck because it was sitting on top of the snow. Put it in reverse and decided to use the fields to get to the road instead.....good times....

He would get out even if this sub was stanced and slammed as fuck ;))

I've owned alot of cars, (family does auto body) and the subarus are the ones I own the longest. They really are well made cars. I can drive right by people who are in 4x4 trucks and they're still stuck, and I'm smiling and waving at them, lmao. Sure I offer to help, I make nice ruts for them to get out with :p

Its funny cause in quebec we had our first snow lately, and I tought to myself ... FUCK, still on the summer tires and gotta go to work. Lol of course it is my first winter in a subaru because I would have known that it made no difference at all loll! Except when you want to turn or brake, but still the car wont get stuck and is real fucking fun to drive even on summer tires lol :) love it! SUBARU

My WRX is automatic. Automatics AWD works different than a Manual WRX. It noticed wheel slip and applied brakes to that wheel. :)

To the guys' that keep talking about doing this in fwd, yes it can be done in fwd, I used to have a 95 impreza L that was fwd and did it in a foot of snow

I feel your pain. This is the case with all subaru owners. We try..and try..and try to get stuck. Then after a few hours we...give up.

These cars are awesome. I have an 07 Outback Sport SE 5 speed. It's a tank in the snow LOL! That video on youtube of the WRX STi pulling out a big rig from the snow says it all.

We've always had a 4WD truck and an eono car. There's a nasty hill at the end our 500+ foot driveway which you can't get a run at. In 14 yr.s living here we never had a 2WD that would confidently climb that hill every winter morning. The 2WD was always parked on top of the hill. The Vibe has made it up easily every day. I know at all other times it is just another FWD but it does what we need and is still a decent econo box. speaking of stupid stuff see, my 'AWD Vibe test' vid

@CupHolderish none actually. The WRX is all wheel drive, the DCCD is only avaible on the STI. What you are seing here is an all wheel drive with an open center differential.

its a very rare car. i've only seen one automatic sti in my life and it was on youtube, why, i have no clue.. I had read somewhere that they stopped making automatic wrx's after the 2005 model. whatever works fo tha drivahhh i suppose. still a beast of a car

Almost seems like it is defying the law of physics! It definitely defies the conventional logic and wisdom..... That's something you don't expect a low ground clearance sedan to be able to do.

with low pro summer tires I'm supprised you did this well. I got stuck in 4in of snow in my 350z w/ summer tires... rocked 9+ with winters on.

Automatic and Manual WRX's act different. It noticed slip in that wheel so it stopped it. It acts differently than a manual WRX in the way that its AWD works. You can search it if you don't believe me. I can assure you that it is not shot.

if you're worried about gas prices, you're probably worried about keeping the car insured as well, and for that you should get the WRX. Its all about how you drive the car. you could drive an STI economically with the 2.5L its packin

im a fellow wrx owner. And it is hard to get stuck haha. I actually live in jacksonville fla but have been to charleston WV many times to visit my friend there and also play in the blizzards. here is fla i play in the dirt :) Ive gotten stuck ONE time ever and that was because i was on a beach and it was DEEP sand. I had no problem going thru it. Trucks were stuck all around me as i cruised by them LoL. But when i went down the Dune and back up i got cocky and CREEPED up it and stopped and sunk!

remember to put out snow away from intercooler. Its sound ridiculous, but it is one of main problem when try to have fun with car. It would be stupid to overheat turbine in middle of the winter ;) It is quite rare, but be warned! Have fun and snow all year :D

@dynamis that isn't an intake your hearing primarily. That is hit BOV. He replaced his factory BPV with a VTA BOV that doesn't have enough shims in it to keep it from venting. OP do you have mad boost leaks, idle problems, or anything of the short? Your valve is venting with little to no boost...

This was during a Blizzard Warning dude....most of my friends own RWD cars. I am the only one that had the balls to film this myself

wrx has open difs, wrx sti has limited slip difs (front and rear) witch means all four will spin in theses conditions. wrx can be 2wd some times, 1 wheel front and one wheel rear spinning :D

nice lil car! I wanted a subie but wifey bought a *ahem, cough* awd vibe for a winter car. It's a joke to call awd but it will spin 3 wheels and is better in the snow than any fwd econobox we ever had.

eventually i will sell my 350z and get a scubby or evo, gotta love the awd fun and 4 doors for your family

So i just bottomed out. Then i had a Bronco old school lock in your four wheel drive type put a rope on the front and we both ripped it loose and woolah i was FREE again to play LOL i had bad tires during that time though and was still learning the off road portion. :) That was years ago!

I have a 2002 WRX with ans STI motor, and bunches of other awesomeness... but I digress... and a 2012 WRX have a set of Michelin ICEx2's for both of them (live in Michigan) for the winter. With the snow tires both cars, which makes driving onj snow and ice basically the same as driving on freshly graded gravel roads, or in other ward F'n awesome. Cool vid drive dafe

@BoostinEuros i take my subaru in the woods all the time and hang with lifted jeeps, blazers, toyotas, all kinds of trucks. Just because its not a "truck" doesnt mean its not off road capable.
