9years old, and still such a short and sweet video that perfect describes the physical and sound differences between the two horns. and a perfect little audio demo of the two. nice.
The Sharptone sounds so much better. The supertone sounds too much like something on a fishmarket truck in China...you know, the little 3 wheeled things...
🍎For all thoes asking why one would install an aftermarket horn. I'll list 3 reasons. ●Inclement weather prevents other drivers from hearing a stock horn. Snow covered, loud hail, high winds. ●Having a louder, more piercing sound, can give the other drivers additional vital seconds to correct their situation sooner to help prevent a collision. ●And finally, noone takes a quiet horn seriously. With a loud horn they will instinctively become alert to their surroundings, it human nature. Louder is more alerting. SHARPTONE with 12v relay wiring harness for the win. Drive safe :)
TotalDbag. lol right on. I just installed the Hella Sharp Tone (yellow) and kept one of two stock horns in the circuit. They are significantly louder and I do recommend them. Ebay sells the Hella sharp tones for $28. You could save yourself some time and plug n play or if you want to keep one of your old horns to fill in the frequency, buy a universal wire harness that'll fits relays. You might need to modify the wire length with a universal horn wire harness but its not too bad, just make sure everything is water proof and use dielectric grease everywhere. :) Subimods probably has just the horns for sale stll also.
Note for correction to specs: The Supertone is 300Hz and 500Hz @ 118dB. The Sharptone is 350Hz and 415Hz @ 115dB. Thanks for the comparison at the end.
My wife’s Rav 4 came with horns I can only describe as “anemic”. Semi’s could not here them and nearly had a collision because of that. Installed a set of Hella Supertones and changed that equation. I’m installing a set of sharptones on my motorcycle for the same reason. Great horns, very affordable.
Thanks for posting this! I had looked into buying a Supertone for my vintage Volvo because they're what's all over the enthusiast parts sites, but after listening to this I chose to buy the Sharptone. I honestly think it sounds a lot more like just a louder version of the stock horn than the Supertone, which to me sounds a lot more Italian than anything. Honestly think that if they flip-flopped the names they'd be more accurate. :P And hey, the blue and gold works on a Swedish car as well as it does on a Subaru anyway.
I wonder how it would sound if you mixed the yellow with the red? In the 70's (working on Air cooled VW's , my brother mixed a 6v horn with a 12v horn, they harmonized, super cool!
Hello, unfortunately without supplying 12v power and ground to this horns, we cannot verify they will function properly. We do not have any experience with horns that do not utilize 12v power.
Good. I ordered the kit this past Wednesday. Where's my stuff? :) Hella Sharptone Horn Combo with Subimods Bracket and V2 Wiring Harness 2002-2014 WRX / STI / LGT / FXT
The super tone has a higher note where as the sharp tone has a louder factory sounding resonance. We have not specifically heard both of these horns used together. But the final product would be a combination of said high note and lower note.
I'm using my horn because you're doing something stupid--like putting on your makeup while driving , and you're moving into my lane! I need to you get your attention immediately. Nobody using their cares about polite. Twat!
@@peterrocan2542...actually, Japanese horns were designed to be polite while getting someone's attention; hence the 'cute beep' sound; attention grabbing but non-offensive. Culture man, culture.
i install it on my Hyundai Veracruz and i cut off my factory plug and connect 2 wire , when I plug it to Hella horn it sound either way there is no positive or negative it works either way , anyone know why ? No replay need it , I thought it won’t work if i hook the wire up wrong , in this case it works either way .
I know its 3 years late. If you want the maximum loudness then yes install the relay and harness. If you are okay with similar to factory loudness then you can likely use the factory harness without issue. Try at your own risk.
I have a 2017 Nissan Rogue Sport SV and it is a nice vehicle but those horns are wimpy and embarrassing! I use to own a 2013 Passat and I thought those horns sounded better. I just need a single horn kit to replace that awful thing that came on it. Why are Japanese horns such a joke???? I can see them sounding so awful if it was just a tiny little clown car but those things must go!!
It still looks better than any exterior mod for a Honda fit's perfectly inside the subaru grill especially color matched to the car... and of its a "rice mod" as its not an engine mod it's exterior/horn... dumbass.
Hella JUNK! They were loud for a minute and then they rusted out and no longer function. I loved the loud GTFOOMW sound. But they rust out SO quick. Horrible quality.
