Rainforest cafe at the Mall of America has a small pond with a submerged croc animatronic. Unfortunately he seems to no longer be functional. He's still there, just doesn't move and seems to be in poor condition :(

Really great video as always! But correct me if I’m wrong, but I feel you missed out on one of the other big main reason people have submechanophobia. And that is that only the fear of something in the water of the unknown, but it is also the knowing fear that you could be hurt or killed by the gears, hydrologics, and mechanics of said animatronic. Especially when you know it’s controlled by AI too. I know me and many others do not like that though or feeling.
@myguitarwantstokillyourmama
I haven't started the vid yet so idk if they mention this, but the main reason i have submechanophobia, besides the fact that its just creepy already, is that i always feel like whatever's under the water will start moving again. so kinda similar to what you mentioned but its mainly the fear if something coming to life in front of me
@fallabeaufaebelle
@fallabeaufaebelle Год назад
This is my exact fear! I love animatronics, but it's the ones underwater that scare me the most because I feel the water element takes some control out of my hands in case something were to go wrong. Getting caught in the gears and having to worry about drowning and being unable to get away as easily due to the water is terrifying to me! The abandoned ones aren't worse but different. My fear there is those poor animatronics have been left to rot and rust and the water around them can't be good for you either, so even a small cut from them could be a big deal. Even with stationary submerged objects, it wouldn't be fear of the unknown for me so much as fear of getting caught/trapped on something and be unable to get help and drown. I think the unknown can be plenty scary in some ways, but for me I think i'm much too curious to really feel it the way others might. It's always been getting hurt by things like gears or stuck that's scared me! I love this channel so much since it explores this content :DDD

That, and a bit of a misplaced fear of large predators. We weren't always at the top of the food chain, and the fact that so many of the monsters we imagine have the same features as the animals that hunted us is a testament to the fact that deep down, we never forgot what it was like to be hunted

If you guys plan to do another list on this, you should include the crocodile animatronic used in the original Jumanji! What makes it stand out from others of this type is that Robin Williams didn’t just go in the water with it, he was actually riding the animatronic itself!
@theonewithdoggoduanesil2du330
When you guys mentioned Bruce sinking, it reminded me of the time during the filming of the private kife of Sherlock Holmes, they had a nessie prop, however at one point after its humps were removed, it SUNK. And it was never recovered. Its still down there to this day believe or not

I loved this!❤🙌🏻your submechanophobia are always great! I enjoy seeing familiar animatronics from previous videos like the sea serpents & the Bunyip but the highlight of this video for me was definitely the Dolphin!🐬🙌🏻 that’s impressive beyond belief! I hope theme parks & animals shows begin using these animations on place of real captive animals, it’s a kinder option & certainly more impressive than a depressed animal that’s been stollen from the ocean

What about the Giant Squid animatronic from the 1954 Disney 20000 leagues under the Sea movie? that animatronic was years before Bruce the Shark , I know the 20000 leagues under the Sea movie is not as popular as the Jaws movie, but back then in the 50's it was an amazing and spooky sight

Large bodies of water are already creepy, especially water you can't see the bottom of. Combine this with "unnatural" things that "shouldn't" be it the water and it's incredibly disturbing. Dark rides are also creepy because the dark, cold water looks so ominous and threatening and is surrounded by human-made objects. I think what you're getting is essentially a *deep water uncanny valley* effect.

My biggest fear with underwater mechanics is when they pop out of the water thinking the entire rest of the body of the animal it's supposed to be, regardless how big, is still underwater. When in reality it's probably a foot or two deep is where it stops. Thinking how deep is the water. Disney's cruise and water between Tom Sawyer's island and the rest of the park are good examples. Jungle cruise isn't deep and the latter is, I've read, is only 2 to 3 ft deep. So you'd be fine if accidently going overboard.

I actually did get to see the sea serpent from the original Submarine Voyage ride up closer once. He wasn’t in the water, but at an exhibit/auction that showcased props and ride vehicles from extinct Disney attraction. As long as you didn’t touch anything, you could get as close as you wanted. This let me get a really foot up close look at the sea serpent. Which was really cool for me because I never got to ride the original Submarine Voyage as a kid.

Overall disappointed with this video. It just seems to recap submerged animatronics you've already talked about multiple time in separate videos rather then focusing on the explanation of how they work. It should have been more about the specifics of making them, how they work as a result and the history of how they've evolved today. For example and to elaborate on the history, Disney doesn't make underwater animatronics like the originally made them for jungle cruise, talk about that history and how the animatronics were made in the first place from concept art, design / building, and finished product.

Hey, thanks for sharing your thoughts on our video. We're sorry to hear that it didn't quite hit the mark for you. We were aiming to cover all the basics of submechanophobia in one ultimate guide, including how they work, their uses, and some examples. But we totally get where you're coming from and appreciate the feedback for future videos. It would be cool to dive into the specifics of making them and their history, like how Disney made them for the Jungle Cruise ride. Thanks for checking out our video, and we hope you still found it somewhat informative!
