Your day on a Navy submarine might begin with the subtle vibrations and soft hum of the engines-this is your wake-up call in the depths of the ocean. As you stir from your sleep, you'll notice the space around you is tight. Your "bedroom" consists of a narrow bunk stacked among others in a shared room, the walls just an arm's stretch away on either side. Privacy is indeed a luxury here, yet the sense of camaraderie that fills these close quarters is palpable and uplifting. After a brief moment to tidy your bunk and stow your belongings in their designated nooks, you'd head to the mess hall.
In the mess hall, despite the constraints of a compact kitchen, the submarine's cooks perform small miracles daily. They manage to concoct a variety of meals that are not only nutritious but also infused with enough flavors to remind everyone of home. These meals serve as a comforting touchstone in the otherwise alien environment of the ocean's belly.

Many years ago I visited an old Russian Diesel Electric Submarine museum that was located next to the Queen Mary museum in Long Beach California. One thing that was very obvious was that any open space was at a premium. The submarine was very tight and enclosed with very minimal space. This was definitely not for the claustrophobic. Even the captains room was very minimal in size. There was just enough room for a small bed, a small desk and a chair. I know that nuclear submarines have more space, but even these videos show that open space is at a premium and tight on nuclear submarines.

Appreciate the comments. I went on a Submarine once and it definitely takes a unique and intelligent type of person for such a duty assignment. After a few hours I was ready to get out. Much respect to all that serve.
