I have had experience with multiplayer mods for games that are natively single player, such as TDMP, noitatogether and JACKET, and the main issue being de-syncs between the client and the host, as it is a peer to peer experience most of the time. I'm surprised at how well the subnautica multiplayer team did so well, and i wonder maybe they have a couple servers to host games on of their own maybe.
