How quiet is subsonic 308 ammo? Is subsonic 308 ammo even possible? It is possible, and it is quiet. This video is a short teaser just to show you the sound difference. I would love to eventually put together a full video discussing ballistics, accuracy, and whether or not anyone should ever even consider shooting subsonic 308 ammo. Would like to see you do more testing with the subsonic:) I know it has been done on other guns but not the short RA. I had to put a brake/flash hider on mine(223) because of the short barrel and the large amount of flash it produces especially on hog hunts at night. Even during the day it is very noticable. Great compact gun. WM

Notice any buildup in your suppressor with Trail Boss? I've loaded plenty of pistol calibers up with Trail Boss and in my 300Blk I use A1680 but I only shoot that through a pistol can and notice some powder and crud occasionally. Didn't know if the full power stuff blows any of that additional debris out or not. Curiosity had just kind of peaked my interest since I want to start handloading some subsonic .308 for use through my sealed rifle cans.

I'd definitely watch. I'm loading up some low recoil ammo for my granddaughter. I think the sub sonic rounds might be even better. She shoots my 6.5 grendel but I have more 308 rifles than ding else.

225gn FMJ, with trail boss. from memory 2 ft hold at 100m or there abouts. biggest problem is they go straight through an animal even a hollow point won't mushroom. the expanding blackout round is an exception

How far will the subs go? Have you seen the Hatsan in .30 cal? It seems airguns are outranging subs for distance and kinetic energy...very interesting. Thanks for sharing.

The biggest question is what is the lethality range and accuracy at various distances 50y, 100y, 200y for subsonic .308 ammo. Also it's max range without the need of a 5 foot holdover.

The hornady sub-x 190gr bullets are out for loading now... load em up in a .308 case and its just as viable as using the same round in 300blk.... and man do those bullets tear shit up

Have you tried heavy for caliber subsonic loads? 220 grain bullet hand loads perhaps?

Allot of those where def going sonic or at the very least where going on the higher end of the transonic range. If you can keep them just outside of the transonic range and use slugs that are as heavy as possible like 300grain if you can find them that is the best for accuracy and also for the sound from what I understand. Do you have a way to measure your bullet speed?

When hand loading for subsonic loads I am assuming that it is better to go to the heaviest (possible) grain bullet> rather than reducing grains of powder used on lighter bullets.

New Sub here. What I see so far I like so keep it up:) Wonder how the subsonic would compare to the full load with the supressor??? Would you even need a supressor with subsonic? I bought the Ruger American Ranch 556/223 and I am impressed. I'm saving for the same in 308 cause I like the compactness and it is a great gun. Keep up the great vids and looking forward to catching up on your previous ones. WM

You sure the first shots arnt just suppressor pop think they do that the first shots without a wipe. You also need a good spotter with a spotter scope to watch the vapor trail and correct you in till you get it dialed in

I am thinking of buying this same rifle (though a different stock and glass) and I was curious does PA have a magazine cap limit or is there another reason you don't use larger magazines? Does it have to specifically be a short stroke mag?

No mag capacity restrictions on manually loaded firearms. Five round mags are all I have right now or I would run 10 round mags often. This stock is designed for 308 length calibers. 6.5 creedmoor would work too.

@@KeystoneCarry Sure, but you can find 25 rnd AI pattern mags at Brownells or MagWarehouse (or where ever you like to shop for such things) In the previous vid where you detailed the build you seemed to be lamenting that you couldn't get high round magazines for the rifle. Or did I mis-interpret that? Ironically, I have an MVP in .223 that I prefer to run 10 and 20 round mags through but my local shops never seem to have anything but 30s :)

@@macewen1 At the time of this video being shot I only knew of 10 round magazines. If there are others I will absolutely look into them. I just personally didn't know they existed. My Sig 716 uses SR25 mags in 20 and 25 round capacity which to me is great. Usually for my bolt gun I don't care about large round counts

Okay.. so when he was messing with the suppressor it looked like it wasn’t torqued tight.. it was moving when he was messing with the cover he has on it. I don’t know much about suppressors but shouldn’t they not move? Can someone help me out?

I like to casually search and assess around me, constantly looking for foes whilst working the action. It offers me time in the event of a counter attack and ensures I look operator as I prepare my counter attack. Great question.

If they're both shooting the same bullet weight at the same velocity, you're not going to see any difference over one round or the other.

I run a silencerco Omega 30 caliber suppressor currently. It is probably the most popular silencer in production. Very robust, very quiet. I will be purchasing a Dead Air Silencer in the very near future as well. They make some awesome stuff.

J762Texan No it is 100% free floated. There is a massive gap between the barrel and the stock. It is actually quite impressive.

Bullets sounded transonic, you need to shoot at 800fps or below for true subsonic quietness and accuracy, the transonic speed range is bad for accuracy, you need to be well in the supersonic or well in the subsonic range.

The sub 308 won’t do any better than say a sub 300 Black. It uses a substantially smaller platform.

Love the 308 caliber, but in a PR, subsonic is a bit of a waste. More a range toy for grins and giggles. Enter the 300 Blackout and it's home run. My AR-10 is a dream to shoot suppressed, but when slow and quiet is the call, it's a single shot, while the 300 is fully functional. There's no real advantage to a subsonic 308. For all you get, go 300 Black.

@@waynehankinson8210 You're right, I had not heard of the RFB 308. Are you implying that the RFB will cycle a subsonic 308? I would not think so, but I can't know everything. My point remains that the 300 Black is a better platform for a 30 cal subsonic and it will function normally.

I agree. When you're demonstrating a subsonic vs supersonic round with a suppressor. Why in the world would you put music in the background. Makes literally no sense.
