Removing books is so....WW 2. Nowadays, kids have phones and Kindles and neighbors are building Free Little Libraries around the corner of most schools.
Dishonest? He was more honest then the governor of Florida. This teacher standed up for the right to read. Banning books and completely empty library bookshelves are going to cause more damage then reading a book about a black character being the main character.
Did you even watch the video? The empty shelves were fiction books removed, and the other shelves were non-fiction, and other other shelves with the fiction books had objects in front as off-limits.
I remember reading a book at Oceanway elem called the Bastard. Every kid that went to school there read that book because of all of the curse words in it
I borrowed a book titled The Happy Hooker from our school library in 1976 when I was an inquisitive teenager at the time. The book was very informative. I was always a bit surprised it was in a school library, perhaps they thought it was about a happy rugby player...
I don’t think he lied about the whole thing. Did you not see the last part of their report that showed all the equipment, desks, etc. blocking the shelves with books? That was from the teacher’s video. Personal note-I was a teacher in a wealth conservative high school for 31 years, and I have no words for the contempt I have for DeSantis and his draconian policies. There are many definitions of an educated person, but at the core of all definitions is that the person is able to satisfy his intellectual curiosity by developing skills like critical thinking, cultural literacy, and the ability to think for themselves. You are not educating children by imposing narrow-minded and politically motivated policies on them. These children need the guidance of professionals who have been trained to work with kids to help them understand the world around them. Kids will get the information they want no matter how you try to regulate what they can read and view. It’s my view that DeSantis is trying to control the uncontrollable-it will not end well for him.
@@jmrocks49 sorry he's just a sub and you were a permanent teacher. Your employer is the school and he's employer is ESS, he better stick to no cellphone and no social media policy of the ESS!
Excuse me, the shortage of teachers is all over the USA and not only in Florida! There are several reasons why teachers burn out. Firstly students have no respect for teachers nowadays. Secondly, because of the pandemic made the teacher tired and sick to the bones. And thirdly, is a lowly-paid job, especially for the substitute teachers!
@@emilien.8327 stop lying! If you harass, bully teachers and charge a felony against the teachers over a book, they are going to leave. No anyone is blinded by fascism or racism because they see what going on in Florida. If he, the governor is going to do a policy stand by it when something goes wrong.
The ESS which is the agency that hires substitute teachers is the one who fired him because he violated the no cellphone and no social media policy in public schools. It's not only in Florida that the rule should be followed or else if the substitute teacher violates a such rule, he/ she will also be automatically fired from his job as a substitute teacher. Even here in Georgia, they also do that! Do you ever wonder why Facebook and other social media have been blocked in public schools all over America, except RU-vid? Because it can do more harm to the children than good! RU-vid is being used by teachers to teach lessons in public schools and is only supervised by adults children can't watch RU-vid on their iPad if not supervised by a teacher. Sub Duval was more active in politicizing empty shelves in the library, and his work as a blogger rather than teaching the children Math that's why he was hired as a long-term sub in Math. He has attended the orientation and signed with such rules to follow as a sub. Good for him he's fired! This is not a job for him. He may be more effective as a blogger and a reporter or a political writer. Sub teaching is a lowly paid job and it's only a part-time job no matter if one works every day! He will even thank Florida Governor de Santis because de Santis noted hed more than 3.4 M views and he really makes a lot of money as a political blogger!
Who thinks they can go into their employers office, take pictures and then spin a yarn and not get fired? Unfortunately, the answer is someone that we are told is a "professional educator".
@@pooroldfred You can call me the intolerant unaffiliated, thank you. Yeah, I'd really rather not have authoritarian leaders. That's not us, but apparently, you people on the right can't wait to get rid of our democracy.
A California teacher and a Florida teacher were discussing rights. The California teacher said he could criticize Newsom and not worry about his job. So what, said the Florida teacher.I can criticize Newsom all I want.
Ma'am but he's blogging about the public school library and not just de Santis who is related to that. Maybe if he didn't taken pictures of the school library and just bad mouth de Santis he won't be fired by the ESS. The ESS has no social media and no cellphone policy, he knew that when he attended the orientation before he gets the job!
Thank you for clearing that up. Crazy. I hope there is a lawsuit - he was brave to tell it how it is and his rights were surely violated. That's why freedom of speech was first on the list to be protected when America was made - retaliation for embarrassing officials was the norm everywhere before our First Amendment. Too bad our govt still can't follow its own laws.
That's weird, even the librarians said the books were there, and shelves were being organized. Basically the same thing EVERYONE has said, except the groomer substitute
@@JustTheFactsMaan could you please show it to me? Get the truth out there if you have it. Otherwise, ask yourself why you tell tales. I need proof before i believe stuff.
I read the excuse for firing him, it is totally ridiculous. DeSantis has no idea the chaos he has caused in classrooms across the state. I have said it before, the parents need to protest this governor or their students will truly suffer. Actually they are already suffering.
@@todd3382 What does “woke” mean??? Y’all have taken that word, made it your own and weaponized it. It’s called cultural appropriation! Read about it. Well, you might not be able to if you live in FL bc it’s part of Black History. SMDH
