As a retail worker, it is NOT WEAK to leave a job where you feel dehumanized and unsafe, whether it's the first day or the first week or two years. It's a huge strength to have boundaries and be able to get yourself out of a bad situation at the first available opportunity. Nobody deserves to be in that kind of environment and we as a society should be doing more to improve working conditions for the lower class, period.
I feel like there needs to be an emergency call button especially for women who are working the night shift and closing alone. No worker should have to take on that situation, especially such a young female
Y’all don’t even understand. Like my boss makes me work on my own for closing and I’ve had incidents where the customers make me feel so uncomfortable that I have panic attacks. But he just wants to save money and let a female minor work alone
I really don’t understand why the older coworker didn’t call the manager. That would’ve been my first move. I would’ve assumed those two guys were there to rob the register.
I would have called the cops. You’re young and two females. Especially when the men are being aggressive. You already told them you were closing so it could have been a distraction of some sort. They could have been damaging your cars or something. Probably a reach but you never know people’s intentions.
I honestly though they were gonna rob that subway, coming in that late, lying that they're gonna leave and then sit right in front of the register being aggressive?? That would set all my red flags up I would've called the police so fast man
Just Lisa As an 18 yo ex subway worker: she wasn’t an underling. They were both coworkers, there are only managers and sandwich makers at subway. They had the same title, no underling and she said she had been working there for 2 months (takes way less than that to learn the job and 18 is grown enough to handle yourself here). It really isn’t all that dramatic and no subway manager would fire a minimum wage worker for something so insignificant.
Jasmine Watson My point is, when it comes to a job like subway it takes 3 weeks MAXIMUM to become a MASTER. Knowing everything and having working alone down. After a month I was opening and closing the shop regularly and it was my first full time job at 18. It’s very simple work and it’s a small shop without many things to learn. Because of this the pay is low and most employees are very young. Her coworker was most likely close to her same and age and experience level... regardless though, bc she both should have had the job down it doesn’t matter who went out. Either way it’s the same deal, part of being an adult and earning your keep is doing things that arent comfortable. By the way she told it, it seemed like her coworker was busy working in the back, so it’s fair. The only thing I could see having a problem with is the fact that she didn’t call the police, potentially putting them in danger. However, all I have to say about that is “why couldn’t she call instead?” Youre seriously telling me you can’t use a landline? To dial a 3 digit number bc you feel unsafe? Alright.
@@hazelreys1103 They're like bell peppers that have been marinaded in a sweet vinegar mix. I always thought growing up that every Subway carried them, but as an adult they're very hard to find. I guess since Subway is franchised, the owners get to pick which veggies to carry. Maybe they're expensive for the owners to purchase and not popular enough in every region to keep in stock.....I've put too much thought into this.
I don't know why chains don't prepare their staff on how to deal with situations when they need to involve the police. Well other then the fact that they would have to address the potential hazards of working there. Fast food places get robbed more often then banks but they don't have clear company action plans....what's with that?
Chains don't care about their staff aslong as they open up and make money for them. I'm sure they have insurance against theft and damages etc and they can remake their money in no time. Training staff and looking after them costs money and resources.
Because according to the balance sheets, people are pretty replaceable. Remember the people making decisions are in an office park somewhere. Training takes time when the worker could be out on the floor.
I left after a week bc the owner barely explained anything and got annoyed when I didn’t know how to do it lol. She also said she could “do whatever she wanted” with the staff bc “she was the owner” not a good situation.
Saaame, I worked at a subway for 4 months and so much happened in that short time. From rude customers to people doing drugs in and then wiping fecal matter all over the bathroom. I'd rather go back to a war zone than deal with that dehumanizing bullsh*t job. I can't walk into a subway still to this day without that smell bringing back awful memories.
I can't say I ever worked there but a friend of mine did and all she ever told me was to stay away from the tuna. And knowing her, I did, no questions asked. What do they do to the tuna?!
I think he may of had some form of OCD. He said she didn’t wrap it like they used to but it was wrapped perfectly. Exactly how we’re supposed to wrap them. It just wasn’t what he wanted. I cried LMAO.
why didn't she just LEAVE is my question. fuckin "friend" been there for 5 years, making this new girl do all the dirty work and not helping the situation AT ALL. my ass would have walked out and never came back.
i think it would be ok if she and her coworker just have left the place and lock the guys in there(for their own safety and that the cops can get them), because what should they do? they were in a dangerous situation and as she said, she is traumatised, so the guys left a bit of damage there..
Ex-Subway employee here. My horror story: a lady and her baby came in one day. It was near closing time but we let her order. She gets her food and walks over to a booth with her baby. My coworker and I didn’t pay her much attention because we were cleaning the back. We didn’t even notice her leave. I was relatively new so I had the job of cleaning the lobby. I get to the booth where the lady sat, and I notice something hidden underneath the booth seat. I go to pick it up, and then dread overtook my whole entire being. This lady had changed her baby’s diaper in the booth, and left the used one behind. It was FULL of what you’d expect from a baby. And I had to dispose of it. Mind you, there is a baby changing station in the bathroom... but she did it in the booth, and left the nasty diaper for me to deal with. Nastiest day of my life.
Oh my lawd! Some humans have no respect for others'. I would say I'm totally surprised except I worked for Victoria secret and someone tried on and Put Back bloody underwear. No respect🤢
I worked at subway for a year and I had to deal with roaches in the kitchen, a nightmare manager, and childish coworkers who talked trash about each other everyday and disrespected me.
madeinyusei - yeah my subway was in an old building on a military base, the building had roaches in its walls, floors, and ceilings. I seemed to be the only one concerned about it 😖
That co-worker is shady as hell. I would have cussed her out after it was all said and done. Poor girl was new, scared and could have some used backup. AND YES! I’ll make it a race thing 😂🤷🏾♀️. As a black girl who has worked in retail and fast food I have been the one put up to addressing situations. It’s annoying 🙄 maybe that wasn’t her specific case but coincidence....? 😂 Who knows.
Haha reminds me of my last job my poor "assistant"(I was training them to replace me) always came running to me for help, only other woman there but I'm really tall so I tower over most in that town. Poor things. I hope they better at confrontation
Seriously doubt it's a coincidence. That was my knee-jerk reaction as well because I've been through the same thing... as a black woman who's also 5 ft tall and 104 lbs
I 100% would have called the cops. If you asked them to leave because you were closed, but they refused, they were trespassing at that point. Especially if they were becoming more aggressive, I would have called the police in case they decided to get physical.
Update: the owner was more upset about the loss in revenue than the danger her employees were in, let me choose if I wanted to be off or not and not the other girl that was working (there were only two of us) AND lied to a different employee and made it seem like I was being wishy washy on whether i was coming in the next day or not when we had a very short and to the point conversation about me not coming in the next day. Unfortunately I still have to work there until I can find a new job
@@user-pb4bn1eb2j lol America needs to fix their gun laws. Those kids shouldn't have been able to get a hold of them so easily. It was two guys and they both seemed really young. We're just happy nothing bad happened to us that night.
@@maree4397 NOOOOOO Ahhhhhhhh my god I am so embarrassed. My life is a lieeee😅🙈 Your so right pick me choose me love meeee. I've learned the error of my ways. 😟😞😔 Uhm.. Where'd you get that from tiktok insults 101?😳
I worked at subway for 2 months. The health inspector was coming in a few days and my manager made me scrub dried steak and jalapeños off the freezer floor and all the baseboards in the dining area. He tried to mop the kitchen but pretty much flooded it and then had the audacity to get mad at us when we didnt get a good review.
That coworker who sent a newbie to deal with unruly customers should have been reprimanded or fired for the way that situation was handled. There's always going to be terrible customers, but coworkers need to support each other, and just hearing the way this poor girl was treated by a coworker putting her int he line of fire makes my blood boil.
One time a guy brought in a sandwich with moving ants all over it and was like “can you heat this up, I got it earlier?” & my coworker did. I was just frozen in shock the whole time.
#%#%#%# This is too wild to be made up. How did the oven react? Whenever I’m asked to heat up a sandwich with mustard the entire subway smells gross for like fifteen minutes; I can’t imagine what ants would do.
When I worked at Subway there was a girl who bullied me. She would dump the teas on the ground and blame me, it got so bad that she would freak out if she saw my name on the schedule. I was also allergic to what they were using to clean dishes. On my first day a lady accused me of stealing her wallet and we had the police come.... There was also this one time that a guy fainted. Yeah, I lasted a month and left but I still remember how to make a spicy Italian.
I worked at Subway for almost a year when I was seventeen. Fortunately, when I was closing alone, my other coworker oftentimes would stick around with me. Even if he/she just sat there, they weren’t being paid but they stayed. It made me feel safe. I wasn’t informed of any kind of panic button, some restaurants don’t have them.
I was working at a package store (liquor store) late one night with one other person - the stockboy, who was younger than me but had been there longer. We were cleaning the place up because it was closing time and we wanted to leave. One of our regulars came to the door and started to open it to come in, but I had already counted the money and closed down the drawer, so I couldn't ring him out. I would have if I could, we did it for regulars coming in at the last minute all the time. I hadn't locked the door yet because no one had been in for the past hour and we were going to be walking out within two minutes anyways. I told him "hey sorry we're closed I can't sell you anything" and he initially walked out and then he turned around and started screaming at me. He was obviously already drunk, common sight when you work at that kind of place, but I managed to lock him out and he stood at the door screaming for 10 minutes. He threatened to call my boss and I was like "please do". We just had to stand there until he decided to leave. It was awful.
I used to work in a small retail store with all female employees and let me tell you, 9pm, when we closed was the scariest time. Any time you heard that door chime at like 8: 58, it was alwaysssssss bad with women or especially men walking in without women or children so I would have definitely called the police if it were me in that Subway. I did quit that job after we were robbed at gunpoint, five minutes before closing. Yeah, just not worth my life.
When I was a key holder/manager at hot topic, I instantly gained this protective trait over all my associates. It didn’t matter if they were older than me or taller than me, or even if they were my age. If anyone messed with my babies, I would have to hold myself back from doing/saying what I really wanted to do. If in a situation like the last story here, I would have taken care of it and not put my associate out there like that.
I worked at subway 3 years and all those years i only got 50 cent raise. I always tell people not to eat there and show them the pictures of the nasty veggies they use. Subway is the WORSE place to work at! And bro I've had my experience never again!
Retail! Got to love it. When I worked in retail I had someone an inch from my face yelling at me for a machine not working. Had a woman yelling at me for “having hatred” towards old people, pregnant women & children because the store didn’t have a public bathroom. I can go on about all kinds of rude people && gross situations I’ve personally dealt with. It’s really disgusting how some people treat others & I am so sorry to anyone who’s currently or has ever dealt with that before. ♥️♥️
Man they should have interviewed me lol! I worked for subway in college a couple years ago. I worked right in front of a prison in Texas (Death row to be exact.) all men in any Texas prison get released there. At noon each day there would be tons of people released. We’d always get inmates in there. Many very kind but it was interesting. One time a guy game in right before i left. i don’t judge but I noticed a big roll of cash in his hands and he just looked like a guy i wouldn’t be with. But he kept hitting on me. Finally he asked me for my number, so i asked him for a tip. He laughed and left. Then the next day he came back, and the next and the next. I was making his sandwich one day and he was hitting on me ofcourse and i was uncomfortable each time he came in, i was nervous to put my back to him because i could feel his eyes on my body. Then he pulls out his money to pay and PILLS went EVERYWHERE. Everywhere.... out of his pocket. He then proceeded to ask for a cookie bag to store them in and got on the floor to pick them up. He then asked for a broom to sweep them from under the counter. I swear i was speechless. Everyone else was staring at him. Another story, a man came in right before i was closing. Minutes before. He had been there earlier that day and I had served him. I jokingly made a comment, “didn’t i see you earlier.” He looked at me and was like is there a problem? Why, who wants to know?” And i was like okay sorry. And i was getting his order and he was like “don’t play with my money.” “Don’t you play with my money!” And I’m like okay sir. And he was all paranoid, he was either on drugs or schizophrenic... and then he starts taking pictures of the cameras and i see his hand on his hip and he has a gun. I shakingly check him out. Once he gets his receipt he sees that my name is not on the receipt. I didn’t know why, not sure if it was because it was after hours by then or what but it said a number rather than my name. He made me write my name and was saying you better not be lying about your name. He went to my customer and and said is this her name? And he was like yes and Kinda spooked too. He started talking about how he hated Mexicans (my coworkers was Hispanic and i am mixed) and was pacing and really on a rant for no reason keeping his hand on his hip. I said aloud that i was going to mop the bathroom and instead went to the other side of the store (the gas station) and got my manager and waited in the office until he handled the situation. I quit the next day. Let me add, the scary guy, turned out to be a guy who really had been through some fought stuff growing up. Found an article online about his father shooting his mother in front of him. This may be why he is (most likely) schizophrenic today...
Subways are honestly such a target for robberies. Especially because there only tends to be 1-2 people in a location at a time. My high school English teacher used to work at a Subway and he said that on multiple occasions, working night shifts, he got robbed at gunpoint. That sounds absolutely terrifying and I’m not about it. It makes me scared to work a night shift anywhere.
I work in a restaurant myself....absolutely hate people when people come in at the last minute....literally. Then expect food. Or those people who walk past. Doors locked, lights off, only me because i close...and i hear them say “Are you all closed?” 🤦🏽♀️
I have a couple Subway stories... I also have Braum's stories, 5 Guys stories, Toys R Us stories, McDonald's stories, Party City stories, Target stories, Home Depot stories, college bookstore stories... I've had a few different jobs in my time. 🤷♀️
The experience that she shared is the perfect example of why people don't quit the company they are working for, they quit because of the manager or their direct bosses.
one time a former worker that had recently been fired came and was asking for free food my two coworkers that were working that night denied him obviously. then him and his friend hanged around for a little longer. my two coworkers went to the back and were finishing up things when out of nowhere they heard THE SOUND OF THE REGISTER OPENING!!!! they both ran to the front and only caught them running away, they went to the register and saw that he had used his old number to sign into the computer, popped open the register and grabbed all the money that was in there. they called the manager and the next day my manager called his parents (bc he worked there and he had alllll his info 🙄) and threatened to call the cops on him if he didn’t pay it back. what a job :)
You should have found subway workers who have worked there for a long time. I’ve worked for subway for two years and omg the horror stories I could tell.
One of the worst jobs to work in is in a subway. The pay is really bad, the treatment by superiors or horrible, customers treat you worse, and many times you get wage theft going on from no paid overtime -money you’ll never see again. If you’re a teenager looking for work look elsewhere I’ve been there trust me you don’t want that
i work at subway and my horror story was when i was ringing a customer up and all of a sudden he went into a hysterical coughing fit and he managed to cough out that he was having an asthma attack... i didn’t know what to do so i just asked him: “would you like any chips, drinks or cookies?”
That's why you should be strict when it comes to last order and closing time. It's not rude to turn people away when the business is already closed; especially in the food business.
Hell no! If I was that girl, I would have walked RIGHT TF OUT when homegirl said she didn’t call the police, I don’t have time to play with you like this!
I worked at Subway for exactly one day because they somehow scheduled me to work my first day completely by myself. Like no manger or anything. Not only that, but it was my first job and they had never given me any type of training for it either. I ended up waiting my shift out and quit right after.
I for some reason still work at subway but here is one crazy story I’ll never forget. So I was working a night shift with a girl, we had about an hour and a half till we close and a old man comes in, he has little money and asks for only tomatoes, he seemed like he had some sort of brain injury so I assumed it was ok, so I gave him some slices of tomatoes.......an hour later......he is still at the store trying to talk to my coworker about animals as she said she wanted to get work at a vet, we were both pretty annoyed at this moment because we had to start cleaning and he was in the way. I end up pushing my way past him and start mopping, i tried my best just to keep to my self but he kept talking. Soon after, a lady comes in ordering a sub and the starts talking to the man and said “how much have you been drinking tonight?” And he replied “maybe one or two”. That’s when I knew it wasn’t a brain injury for this man was drunk.... we end up getting him out of the store and locked it, but he was waiting till we came out.....closing time came around and we had to leave, my dad was picking me up and my coworker was getting in her car and I got into the car, told my dad about this man and then the girl I work with started running to her car with this man chasing her!! My dad was the saviour of the night cuz he honked the car and was about the tackle him but he ended up walking away and she got home safely. I can wait to quit one day soon...
My subway horror story is that I interviewed, was told on the spot that I was hired and they would contact me within a week with which store I was being placed at. A week goes by, a week and a half goes by, I call the lady who interviewed me. She tells me yes I'm hired, sends me some paperwork to fill out and says I'll have my placement soon. Long story short I got ghosted by subway because they insisted I was hired but *never* gave me a store to work at
