On November 1955, Yusuff Ali was born into a Muslim household in Nattika, in the Keralan district of Thrissur. He attended St. Xavier's High School in Karanchira for his education. He has a diploma in business administration and management.
Following his education, he moved to Abu Dhabi in 1973 to work alongside his paternal uncle, M K Abdullah, who founded and serves as chairman of the LuLu Group of Companies. He expanded the group's import and wholesale distribution and launched Lulu Hypermarket, his first into the grocery industry. During a period of significant transformation in the UAE's retail industry in the 1990s, when big-box stores and hypermarkets replaced traditional grocery and supermarkets, he opened his first Lulu hypermarket.
The biggest Indian employer outside of India is LuLu Group International.Yusuff Ali was named No. 1 among the Top 100 Indian business owners in the Arab World in 2018 by Forbes Middle East.With a net worth of US$6.9 billion, he was listed as the 27th richest Indian on Forbes' billionaires list, which was released in October 2023.
