Love the cuttings , I found for myself through air layering is that the plant airlayer or cutting will be much more successful with lots of roots , where as little amount of roots the plant survival rate is much less or even at all , best to be patient and let lots of roots develope before planting or digging up to pot , hope that helps , lots of roots equals best success because the plant can get its nutrients much easier and survive , hope my suggestion helped a bit. 👍

I'm so excited for you. I'm definitely going to be snipping some of my dwarf Japanese maple trees. I'm so excited for your success.

Wow... Great job! Your cuttings did really well with root production! It's exciting to see these results! It always amazes me when a cutting shows a good amount of new growth topside, yet when you check for roots, there aren't any visible signs of root growth. It's definitely surprising, as well as a little disappointing, but a great way to see for yourself that new growth doesn't automatically mean that roots are forming. Seems to be a joke on the part of Mother Nature. I'll have to follow this video to see if the extra month with the sphagnum moss produces the results your looking for! Hope so! Thanks for sharing!

Great video and advice, I took cuttings from a Japanese Maple on 30th March and have just made a video on my channel about their progress. I used a clear plastic moisture box the same as yours, before moving them into pots. The true test of winter will be tough but will see how many of them wake up in the coming spring. Well done with your cuttings taking root :)

They did awesome. I didn't have too high of hopes for them, but glad you got a few. I keep trying sand and they have been difficult. I only got like 1 out of 12. I'm going to be working on a misting system so hopefully I can get higher success that way.

An automatic misting system would be a great tool for sure. Good luck in your future attempts.

Made a humidty chamber for my Japanese maple cuttings. I put root hormone on the tips. It was a powder hormone. It’s been 3 weeks and the leaves are still all alive and well. There are no signs of any roots being made. I checked a few and nothing. It’s in my greenhouse so it’s getting little light but it is getting some.

Rooting takes a long time for some. my cherry blossom cuttings took 2 months to root and they stayed healthy
@tonyalvizo
@tonyalvizo Год назад
@@meh_b I figured that was probably the case since after rewatching the video he is showing us four months root progress. I also saw that my humidity chamber was a bit off. I didn’t have any holes in the top or bottom. so I took the cuttings out and placed it in water while I drilled holes. I also added rooting hormone to cover more than just the tip. Hopefully with the changes will help and not hurt

How do you make the labels? Thanks for sharing this journey and allowing us to learn along with you.

I plan to address that with a future video - but they are thermal (waterproof) labels stuck to a T-shaped plant tag.

Wonderful acer. Could anybody advice, what climate and ground necessary for such growth. I have the same, but unfortunately i chose wrong place for it. Or seems it too hot in our climate at a black sea coast for it to grow. After 5 years, it leaves are now drying up, don't know what to do...

Japanese Maples are hardy in USDA zones 5 - 8, so check your climate against the USDA ratings as a guide.

do you cut drainage holes in the bottom of your propagation box/

Yes I do. If you want a full explanation, I have linked to the spring and summer cuttings videos (that I published earlier) in the video description which explain this.

What climate are you in / state city? Just trying to follow along but I live in Minnesota so just wanted to tune my process to my area
@JonnyMaple

I am in a Zone 8. In Minnesota, they will need some serious protection during winter months. You may consider Korean Maples which are even more cold tolerant.

Do you then graft it onto a dwarf root stock? Because isn’t the cutting the mother plant?
