Well guys and gals.... we did it! One step closer to the end of the Succ Seshs. Mergers and weddings are in the balance as we jump into the fray. Who will come out on top? Who will be left in the dust? Why can't we all just get along?
ALSO god i get so mad when logan tells them to make their own pile!!! he's the one who made this career the only viable option for roman and kendall AND when shiv herself was handling her own career in politics he tried to do the same to her until he finally broke her down. she literally turbodestroyed her politics career because he dangled CEO over her head, and now he's mad because they don't have their own money separate from waystar. he wants them all under his thumb but he absolutely hates that that means they get the privileges he never had. ken was so right in austerlitz when he said logan was jealous of what he's given his kids.
Honestly, the best reaction creator to Succession out there, and I've watched them all. Kudos. While it's arguable that Season 3 could be the weakest of the seasons in terms of overall moments, I think the finale of S3 is undoubtedly the best. The twist is set up so masterfully, under our noses the entire time, and yet still shocking. Truly earned drama. Thanks for making the video, I really enjoyed rewatching it with you!
I liked the season 2 finale more (all arguments for who should take the blame, Shiv/Tom, Roman becoming more mature, Ken rising from the ashes), but this one is definitely very close to it.
Imo I think season 1 was the weakest. It seemed like in S1 they were still figuring out what they wanted to the show to be and it’s not really until episode 6 that they found their footing. Idk how people can say that S3 is the worst. Barring episodes 2 and 4, I thought the rest of the season was peak Succession.
The confrontation with Papa Dragon is so great - Roman's struggle to stand up to his dad, Ken finding his purpose after hitting rock bottom, Shiv taking her moment and watching it crumble.
my two cents on connor/the whole "eldest son" thing - the three younger sibs discount and forget about him, imo, for two reasons. 1) their dad discounts and forgets about him. he no longer features in logan's plans, bc of whatever background exists with connor and his mother and however that turned out. he essentially "started over" when he married caroline and had kendall, and kendall became the new number one. it's shitty, but they learned everything from their dad, including how to conceptualise connor. he's considerably older than kendall so they didn't really get to bond like siblings the way the younger sibs did, there's always that disconnect there, and when both of their parents view their older half-brother as irrelevant, it's no surprise that they do too sometimes. 2) slightly less cynically, connor is kind of a father figure to them more than he's their brother. he took roman fishing, he ate fizzy salmon and shat himself on a camping trip HE took them on (you should def look up the full fake newspaper articles kendall had made about the sibs for his birthday btw, they're SO funny), and even in this ep you see him try to calm them down and stop them squabbling. he's been a kinder father to them all than logan ever was.
He tried to be a good adult for them when they were kids (I kinda see the examples you pointed towards as more big brotherly things rather than fatherly things), but they've never treated him that way as adults. None of them respect him at all, though there are times when they show some level of care for him.
@@UnlistedAgain sure they're kinda big brotherly but to me it's telling that when roman had to come up with a thing he did *with his dad* that was good and nice and fun, he picked fishing and handwaved that it was with logan and not connor. fishing is something boys stereotypically do with their dads. and i think their lack of respect for him leans into the other thing about connor, which is that logan doesn't respect/care for him, so neither do they.
There are two scenes in the show that made me a Conhead. Season 2, when Roman gives an interview and is supposed to share a nice memory with Logan. So he tells the interviewer about the time they went fishing. When Logan asks what that was about, Roman says that Connor was the one who went with him. In season 3 in the birthday episode, Connor gets pissed about that mock headline about him shitting in a bag or something like that. Connor goes on about how he went camping with them because dad couldnt be bothered. Connor is not only the eldest son, he was more of a father for his siblings than Logan. And yet he only gets shit on and disrespected.
When Tom called Greg “SPORUS” during their deal with the devil scene, I think it was a perfect tip-off to the audience what was about to happen. I assume Greg at least guessed that Tom was planning to betray Shiv. The seeds of this betrayal were sprouting when Tom told Greg the story of Nero pushing his wife down the stairs & marrying his favorite slaveboy Sporus. “I’d castrate and marry you in a heartbeat” is such a deranged line! 😂 I think Tom’s arc & this brilliant finale are the highlights of Season 3
46:49 I mean, he is the ultimate hypocrite, yeah. Roman was in everything for a long time, was in good graces, actually set up the whole deal thing, was crushing it business wise, but thirsting about Gerry is a no-no because "It is gross, she is a billion years old" (it is harassment, yeah, I know), while Logan boning his assistant who is what, 30-35 years old? And even business wise Logan literally wanted to buy local TV stations(!), and now he is "hey, merging with serious tech operation, our market is declining". I really like who small details and interactions with Tom and Logan, and Shiv and Tom, and Greg and Tom all came together in this one, brilliant writing. And, yeah, Connor is the one I understand the most, well not understand or sympathize, but get his frustration. He is that one aloof billionaire, and he is not a good person, but out of all them he is sort of the most stable one, in his own way (and also, yes, has the most stable relationship as well, which he understands he actually just bought). His President run is what an aloof billionaire would do, and it is hilarious to watch.
I love the 3 kids (lol sorry Con) but I also think Connor was kind of fucking with them with the Kerry thing as a little gotcha from the intervention thing, especially when he was like “I guess dad doesn’t rate you guys after all.” I like to think of that as a subtle Connor jab 😂 though Kerry could really be trying to get pregnant it’s just so hilarious to to think about. Then again, Al Pacino has a young child.
4x3 connor’s wedding episode received a perfect score… PEAK television. can’t wait for your reaction to this season particularly that episode, just some of the most incredible, realistic acting i’ve ever seen
The Zuckerberg thing has a grain of truth in there. Allegedly the reason he has/had that weird ass haircut while being a billionaire is because it was a common hairstyle among Caesars(IIRC)
Absolutely incredible finale! Love your reactions man! As for suggestions, not sure if you're into anime, and if you are you may have already seen it, but highly recommend the english dub of Death Note! Its basically the Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul of anime.
