PRODUCT THAT I USE AND LOVE THAT CAN SPEED UP PROPAGATION (affiliate links):
➡️ www.mrhousepla... - Heat mat (place underneath the propagation vessel to warm it up, can cut propagation time in half)
➡️ www.mrhousepla... - an air pump provides a constant inflow of oxygen which speeds up propagation. Oxygen is crucial for healthy root development
➡️ www.mrhousepla... - humidity dome for soil propagation
➡️ www.mrhousepla... - rooting hormone, for plants that are not easy to propagate
FERTILIZER
➡️ www.mrhousepla... - Dyna Gro fertilizer, excellent for tropical plants, contains all 16 minerals houseplants need
➡️ www.mrhousepla... - Espoma succulent and cacti fertilizer
LIGHT METERS
➡️ www.mrhousepla... - Dr. Meter light meter, the only way to know that you're providing your plants with sufficient light
➡️ www.mrhousepla... - Most light meters apps are incorrect, this one has been pre-calibrated for a variety of cell phones
IF YOU DON'T HAVE ENOUGH NATURAL LIGHT, YOU CAN USE GROW LIGHTS TO SPEED UP PROPAGATION:
➡️ www.mrhousepla... - 60W Sansi grow light (for large plants)
➡️ www.mrhousepla... - 15W Sansi grow light (for smaller plants)
➡️ www.mrhousepla... - 15w Sansi grow light
➡️ www.mrhousepla... cable for Sansi grow lights
➡️ www.mrhousepla... - shelf grow light
➡️ www.mrhousepla... - Soltech Solution's 20W light - Soltech Solutions grow lights
➡️ www.mrhousepla... - Soltech Solution's 40W light - Soltech Solutions grow lights

Do you use same process for every succulent? Or different types different method ? And could you please show what the calluses looks like? Thank you very much and good luck with your plants
@MrHouseplant
@MrHouseplant 2 года назад
Hi, I use the same process for most succulents. There is another much simpler way, just pull of a few leaves and leave them anywhere in bright light (over 3,000 lux). They don't need to be in soil or water, you can just leave them on a window sill with bright light. New babies will develop in a few weeks. They get everything from the mother leaf, no need to water or have them in any medium :)

Do succulents die when moved from water to soil?
@MrHouseplant
@MrHouseplant 10 месяцев назад
Hi, it can happen, but there are several things you can do to increase the chances of the cutting surviving transition from water to soil: 1) Provide at least 5,000 lux of light 2) Make sure the soil is fully dry before watering (use a chopstick to check) 3) Create a well-draining potting mix (1 part potting soil, 1 part perlite) But know that even if you do everything right, some cuttings will still die. We can't control nature. We can only provide the best conditions and hope for the best 😊

How long does this take to grow?
@MrHouseplant
@MrHouseplant Год назад
Hi, the length of time it takes for the cutting to root will depend on many factors and will be different for everyone. For one person a cutting might root in a week. For someone else it might take 2-3 months. It depends on the amount of light, amount of oxygen in water, water temperature and other factors. As a general rule of thumb, leave the cutting in water until it grow 2-3 inches of roots. Then you can pot it in soil. 😊

Hi Jill, Even if you do everything right and provide the most optimal conditions, some cuttings will still rot. That’s just nature, we can’t control it :) We can only provide the best possible conditions and hope for the best. Now, there are a few things you can do to increase your chances of success: 1) Increasing the warmth of the propagation medium, regardless of whether it's soil or water, by using a heat mat. Increasing the temperature by a few degrees significantly speeds up propagation. 2) Increasing the amount of light, more light increases photosynthesis and root formation. Either move the cutting to a brighter window or use a grow light. Don’t keep cuttings a few feet away from a window, but right in front of it. And don’t place cuttings behind walls next to a window - but in front of the window 3) If you're water propagating, use an air pump to constantly provide fresh oxygen to the water. Roots use oxygen and release carbon dioxide. A constant influx of oxygen increases propagation speed. If you’re propagating in soil, mix the soil with perlite to increase macro pores and the amount of oxygen in it. Hope this helps :)

Do you have to change the water? Or just leave it until you see roots?
@MrHouseplant
@MrHouseplant Год назад
Hi, you should replace the water once a week, or more often if it gets dirty more often. We are replacing the water to remove harmful bacteria and provide oxygen for root development. You can also add an air pump that will provide a constant inflow of oxygen. This can cut propagation time in half and you won't need to change the water as frequently, only to refill it. The water level will go down over time because 1) the plant will use some of the water 2) part of the water will evaporate. So make sure to refill the dish regularly 😊

It's ok, you don't have to let the leaves callus, the chances of infection are very slim, it doesn't actually happen that often. But if you want to be on the safe side, it's ok to let it dry out :)

Aloes are extremely difficult to propagate from leaves, they are easiest to propagate by division or top/stem cuttings :)

Can you pls tell me why my succulent leaves are dying? ☹️ I have propagated in soil mixture (normal soil+cow dung+perlite+sand+ Coco peat) i have put leaves & plants on that soil ground. I'm watering it when it's required. Yet whole leaves are dying. I haven't done water propagation. My plant does have leaves but if I pluck more leaves then it'll be left no leaves. I don't know the name of my plant but its lotus type, medium size. I'm sure It'll be gone soon as the leaves are dying, turning brown quickly like with 2 3 days . Plz guide me.

Maybe it's normal soil+cow dung. And I'm not gonna buy any succulents even though they are beautiful, eye candy. They are hard to take care of.

Is the succulent touching the water?
@MrHouseplant
@MrHouseplant 2 года назад
Yes, they always touch the water. I've seen people do this without the succulent touching the water. I guess that works as well. If you put a succulent leaf anywhere, even if you leave it on your desk, it will still propagate. I guess leaving it suspended over water provides it with higher humidity, which helps with propagation, but I always keep them in water.

@@MrHouseplant do you allow the leaves you broke off to callus over first or do you put them in freshly cut? How often do you change water?
@MrHouseplant
@MrHouseplant 2 года назад
@@radiclelife I don't let the callus, it doesn't affect my success rate, but if you're having issues, I would suggest letting them callus. It is best practice and should in theory increase chances of success. It's best to use an air pump, in that case you don't have to replace water often, as it will stay oxygenated. Without an air pump I replace once to twice a week.
