The story behind Sudarshan Chakra.
Sudarshan Chakra is a one-of-a-kind weapon used by Lord Vishnu.
Sudarshan Chakra is also known as 'Kalachakra' or 'The wheel of time'.
Sudarshan Chakra has the power to destroy anything that comes in its path and is considered the mightiest weapon.
In fact, Sudarshan Chakra is the only divine weapon that is constantly in motion.
The literal meaning of 'Sudarshan Chakra' in Sanskrit is 'The one that has an auspicious vision'.
Sudarshan Chakra:
According to Shiv Puran, there was a time when all of the gods were troubled by the constant attacks of the Demons. They decided to seek the help of Lord Vishnu for the matter. They requested him to protect them, but Lord Vishnu told the gods that he did not possess the necessary weaponry required to defeat the Demons.
However, lord Vishnu assured them that he would help. Lord Vishnu then went to Kailash. He found Lord Shiva there, sitting in a state of meditation. Lord Vishnu started praying to Lord Shiva by chanting his name and offering him thousand lotus flowers.
Shiva came out of his trance and was immensely pleased with the prayers of Lord Vishnu.
However, he secretly took one of the lotus flowers to see what Lord Vishnu would do once he found that there was a flower missing from his offering.
When Lord Vishnu saw that there were only 999 lotuses and that his offering was missing one flower, he started searching for the lost flower, but he did not find it. Since, Lord Vishnu's eyes also were considered to be as beautiful as a Lotus. Lord Vishnu took out one of his eyes and offered it to Lord Shiva as a replacement for the missing flower. Seeing such immense devotion towards him, Lord Shiva proposed to Lord Vishnu to ask for a boon.
Hearing this, Lord Vishnu requested Lord Shiva to give him a weapon powerful enough to overpower all the Demons with ease.
Lord Shiva then gave the Sudarshan Chakra to Lord Vishnu. That was to help him conquer all his enemies.
So this is how Lord Vishnu got his well-known majestic weapon, the Sudarshan Chakra.
