Hi Vincenzo. In April of 2018 my son and I made our first visit to Italy and Sicily. Wile in Sicily we drove around Etna on back roads. We were amazed at how many areas had farms and villages destroyed by previous eruptions. Here in the US I found a coin from Aetna, Sicily from the period of 210 to 208 BC. Luckily I got it purchased and it one of my prized possessions. It is described as “Under Rome, Aetna became a municipal town of considerable importance; its territory being one of the most fertile of all Sicily. The site of the city and time of its destruction are unknown today.” I enjoy holding this coin and wonder about the people who have held it before. Again thank you for all the wonderful pictures of Mt Etna. John. Oklahoma. USA
That must have been quite a boom. I have visited once when a child, but it was foggy and so never actually saw the volcano, just the car park and our coach.... :(
Depend how far you are. If you are close ro the crater the projection of the lava looks more fast, if you are miles far the result is this. Imagine that in this video you see in a very short time a column of ash flying up for 2 miles and maybe more
We were on a cruise and they offer an excursion that takes a bus all the way to the top of this volcano. You can even see the lava flows from years past with cars and whatnot stuck inside. It's hard to believe they have a gift shop and a restaurant up there.
