I'm glad I found this video. I discovered this on my own and dubbed it the "right angle matching pair". At first I was concerned that it didn't always work but this video confirms my "discovery". It's been a huge help in solving puzzles. Thank you Sudoku Guy.

I wish to know how do you assign the blue and red colours to the pairs. In which video I can learn it?

Look for a matching pair then decide either red or blue and if the matching pair is connected to another matching pair you must give it the orter colour and so on. Hope this helps Benson. I could have easily started with the other colour however along the way the colours must alternate If one end is blue then the other end is red and visaversa.

Hey Robin Im a new subscriber. I was solving a puzzle on my phone while watching this video on the tv. I actually was getting road blocked in a similar way and used your technique here and lowe and behold i solved the whole rest of the puzzle in a minute.

Howdy Robin, my name is Julia and Im a huge sudoku fan. I love picking away at my book but I have noticed myself getting bogged down and having to ignore and work around my magic pairs rather than finding a knock them out, I would just hit a wall and hope that later I'd find a different number that unlocks the pairs and it just makes so much sense now. I suddenly noticed the same concept was covered in tutorial 51. I didn’t quite understand back then but things are becoming clear now. It’s a strong-weak(strong acting as weak)-strong link chain !

Great Tutorial, Sudoku Guy. I also made a tutorial on Remote Pairs recently and I love finding these in puzzles. I like how you make red and blue colored cells and look at the intersection. Remote Pairs only work with even numbered cell chains, and your coloring method makes sure of that.

Noted If someone can solve with only 12 numbers they have to use algorythmns . 17 given numbers are the suggested minimum numbers for normal 9X9 solving.

Robin, I really enjoy your videos…I’ve learned so much. Question….how do they grade the difficulty of puzzles? I’ve had ones which they said were very difficult that turned out to be quite easy and easy ones which were almost impossible? Does it go on the number of squares already given or is there another reason?

Good question! The grading varies a lot. You are right the categorization is often poor which can be frustrating. It depends the better books have a person do the puzzles first. Many apps work on a algorythmn and that depends which one or ones they use, while other publishers base it on the number of original numbers. However this does not always work. Hang in there. I have found the app "enjoy sudoku" as one of the best and any book by Will shortz. Robin

Keep watching and you will find eventually puzzles which has several matching pairs. Different publications tend to have different puzzles. some have more sets of matching pairs than others Robin

Greetings from Florida Robin. Another wonderful explanation of technique. I'm not clear,however, on how you determine which matching pair is a "red" and which is "blue." I understand that for each pair that sees each other, one is red and the other blue. But how do you determine which is which? Or...does it make a difference??

As of Feb 1 2022 I am no longer doing puzzles for fans as it has become too time consuming, (86,000 Subs and 12 million views) and my energy level at 80 yrs is not like it used to be. NONONO At beginning. Looking at row 2 column 8 and 9 and also and also looking at column 8 row 6. You see at column 8, row 2 is the number 289. This 289 can see number 28 (At row 2 column 9)and this 289 also can see number 28 at same column (8) and row 6 . So # 289 will be become # 9 but you said it will be # 28 . Why?????
