#suezcanal #suez #evergiven #evergreen #suezcanalblocked Suez Canal Update : The ship MV Ever Given has reportedly been partially refloated. It is still in place but has already shown signs of movement. Chief MAKOi Seaman Vlog S03E21
@@ChiefMAKOi don't be coy chief...throw the miscreant under the bus ....or in more nautical terms perhaps a nice keelhaul! Anyway a good vid to set the story up for the wanna-be experts...
As a former merchant mariner, I truly appreciate your channel. So much has changed since I swallowed the anchor back in 2001. You explanations are excellent and I often find myself nodding and saying "yup, I can relate." Thanks for sharing your time and expertise. Fair winds and following seas, brother.
Since the onset of the mishap, everyone has been asking why removing the ship from the canal has proven so difficult. But isn't it obvious? Something that is "Ever Given" can never be taken away.
@@ChiefMAKOi Thanx for all your videos. Excellent information on each one. Appreciate your Expert knowledge. Good Luck and Stay safe out there. from Lake Erie....USA.....ET
The dislikes are from people who just found out they’re ignorant! The Blancolirio channel for all things aviation, and Chief MAKOi for shipping. Two of the best channels on YT!
I don't know... Juan is actually pretty ignorant. It sucks that he talks about so much shit he knows nothing about. He's also fucking slow. Typical boomer.
Todd Jones I am subscribed to Blancolirio too! I found him during the Oroville dam problem. Juan is great!! This is my first time on this channel, seems like it might be worth watching.
I disliked this video because the info is useless and he acts like hes talking to 5 years olds. Probably why you watched the whole thing, lol your teacher put it on the tv and left
Found this channel after trying to do research on the Suez Canal incident and instantly feel in love with this content. I know nothing about ships nor have I ever been interested but after binge watching a couple of his episodes man............I now have much more appreciation and fascination for what these men and women do day in and day out for months at a time making a BIG sacrifice not seeing their loved ones for months at a time so the entire world can have what they need to function. These maritime sea man come from all walks of life, speak so many languages, have different cultures and traditions etc. but you can see how much they care, love their job, AND WORK FREAKIN' HARD! Thanks for making this content, keep up the good work :-)
Hi Chief :) As a former long-distance sailor in Maersk Line back in the 80', i like the way you can explain the misunderstandings what the land crabs cannot understand. Here in Denmark we call the people who do not understand the maritime area "Landkrabber" = land crabs. :) hihi But for large fishing boats here in Denmark, there is a name on both sides of the bow, and it stands for in which port the ship belongs. For example. FN 198, this ship belongs to Frederikshavn and its identification number is 198. And the ship's name is either on the side or on the back of the wheelhouse. :)
Chief: I'd go to sea with you anytime -- anywhere, Your videos are easy to listen to, filled with facts that you present in a way that paints a pictute in the mind pf your audienc. Well Done !!
Very good of you to explain the differences between: Ship owner, Ship Management, and Ship Operator / Shipping Co. It's a lot like the hierarchy involved in airplane operations, but people foreign to the trade can easily get confused, and not without just reason.
Chief Makoi: thank you for this very clear explanation. I also wanted to express my sympathy to you, being so far from your family as the Phillipines struggles with what is being reported by the media here in the US as a major COVID flare-up. I hope they are well away from the areas where the disease has re-emerged.
Ha ha, I was confused about the whole Ever Given vs Evergreen thing too, thanks for clearing that up Chief. Its great to get coverage of this important event from a real professional.
What a great job of explaining all of the companies and countries involved in the operation of these large container ships. And an even better job of "explaining" to those know-it-alls who berated you for using the wrong name what that name really is. You didn't stoop to their level of being insulting. Well done, Keep 'em coming!!!!
Guys...chief Makoi is the person whose working at the maritime industry not the viewer just watching blindly from internet and youtube...Means that he is the expert..fullstop !
chief Makoi!!!!! Ha Ha Ha!!!!! :) :) expert!! Hu ha ha ha! :) :))) Fullstop!!!!! Ha ha ha ha :) :) :) !!!! is chief engineer of a containership like the Ever Given.? ???!!! Ha ha ha !!!! :) :) :))
Yep...If you don't know the name Evergreen in shipping you really don't know anything at all about shipping. That's fine but please shut up and listen to the Chief. I always enjoy learning something from his Videos.
@@DRCarpetDR We Americans thinks we are the smartest people on this planet, LMBO, minorities taught us mostly everything were invented or created by minorities that floats around the globe, the word patent were created by thieves.
The shade from a Chief! I'm a new viewer to your channel Chief, one of many I'd presume since everyone starting googling Suez Canal. I've been watching a lot of your videos and wanted to say thank you for bringing your experience in the world of shipping to us landlubbers. The quality of your channel is truly exceptional and your rational factual presentation is a joy. Thank you again and may your voyages always be smooth!
Thank you for clarifying the ownership/operating structure of the ship. A simple Idea gets really complicated really quickly, doesn't it. I think all of these companies are going to become very well acquainted while standing around in the courtroom... At least the ship has been refloated. Thanks again for your time and effort!
Very nicely explained. I had figured out some of that, but hadn't realized it was that complex. Thanks. Oh, and thanks for the grown-up way of dealing with the oaf.
Imagine telling an actual sailor he's wrong about the ships name because you can see it plastered over the side of it... Don't you think if you've seen that, he might have noticed it also? 🤣
This guy popped up because i looked up suez newz. Honestly i find you so well spoken Chief im subbing. Finally a great youtube recommendation. Algorythms! Lol
I was one of those fools, all I read was Evergreen. Until I saw the name on the bow in another video. I'm a tool. My apologies, I watched this video in full.
Chief Makoi is one of those people that you know you will never hear a nonsense from them!! Huge respect from Turkey. If the ship was too old or wasn't maintained properly i could understand blaming Panama but this wasn't the case at all. For example a river-class freighter recently sunk in Black sea that i think sadly Ukraine has huge responsibility in this incident as such old river freighters shouldn't be allowed to sail into seas...
@@roger7673 You are kind of contradicting yourself. Nobody thinks that all the ships are called Maersk Line, why should they then think that every ship is called Evergreen. do they also think that every container with the Evergreen logo comes from the same ship.
Well....Its still stuck. It has moved a few meters in the channel, but it has not moved down the canal and gotten completely free and sailing. They are suspending any more operations until the next high tide tonight. So the Suez canal is still closed right now.
The Ever Given vs Evergreen thing kills me lmao! Like all these people thought that there were hundreds of ships all named evergreen. Or thousands of ships all named Mearsk
Lmao no joke! Thing that kills me is that these idiots walk around with so much confidence. They have no idea what the hell they're talking about but they're still going to call out and correct a real subject matter expert. Smh!
Well done Chief. I, as an ex merchant mariner and Chief Engineer from yesteryear (1971) certainly appreciate your patience and easy information to those who are not familiar with ships names, ports of registry, time charterers, technical management, etc,. Great and I really enjoy your RU-vid videos.. stay safe.
[This comment was originally on another Chief MAKOi video, but I thought it might be worth repeating it because some people got so ANGRY...] Peeps wondering about the Evergreen thing: the shipping company is called Evergreen and it has something like 20 ships in this class of vessel. They are all called Ever G----- [something], so the company's ships have names like Ever Golden, Ever Gifted, Ever Gentle, Ever Giant, Ever Genius, Ever Goods, Ever Gain, and (as here) Ever Given. Names that didn't make the shortlist include Ever Goose, Ever Glue, Ever Glades, Ever Dance With The Devil In The Pale Moonlight, and Ever Banana. 🍌
The ship's name is "evergiven", the company that owns it is Evergreen. Think of "evergiven" as it's first name and Evergreen as it's last name... Just like a human has.
One sea vessel with a permutation of names sounds absurd - When you own a ship assembled in Germany, registered in England, Managed by China, Piloted by Indians, Licensed in Taiwan.......
As many others I have discovered your channel because of Suez situation. But I was amazed by quality of your videos and your ability to explain everything calmly and clearly. Now I know much more about modern marine shipping, about ship systems and procedures. Bravo! Thank you! Please continue your great work - this should be recommended for anyone interested not only in modern sea shipping, but also anyone interested in technology in general"
There are two main types of comments on most of the RU-vid videos: 1) people saying the name is really "EVERGREEN" 2) people giving their "expert" suggestions
No, because it's ok to make a mistake. After all most people don't know much about container ships or boats in general. What I can't believe is that people have the audacity to try to argue about something like the name of a ship knowing they have little to no previous knowledge of ships.
That's all the keyboard warriors who know nothing about ships. Twitter got tons of people saying the same thing lol. Is kinda scary to think most people don't know how commercial ships have names and a company. In all fairness evergreen and evergiven sound almost the same so adds to the confusion lol.
The Ever Given's last recorded speed was 13.5 knots, logged 12 minutes before it grounded, according to Bloomberg, which cited its own data. The maximum allowed speed through the canal was between 7.6 knots and 8.6 knots.
I am sure that with these competent egyptian pilots on board the speed was brought back. However due to the strong wind i would advise to sail faster in order to have better rudder action to compensate against thr wind movement.
its is a captain of the ship fault human errors usually an explaination, its indian captain lol, even in the un forces there is an indian general singha which made a very controvercial decision favored to the terrorist during the isis attack somewhere in syrian boundary long time ago.
@@funnymovie2827 no it's not fault of captain ... it's fault of Egyptian pilot because in suez canal control of the ship to pass through cannal is in hand of Egyptian pilots ...ship crew has nothing to do with it
Okay so as Chief Makoi says the ships name is Ever Given its one of 11 sister ships chartered by Evergreen line from Taiwan(Not owned)Its 400 X 59 metres,Container capacity 20,000TEU and is 220,000 tons,I seen it myself at Felixtowe port on east of England back few weeks/month so thats the confusion cleared up.Its sister ship is Ever Govern..so all the others names start with Ever..Ever Glory,Ever Golden etc
Wiki has a good summary - they are Golden Class container ships, owned by Shoei Kisen Kaisha (a ship-owning and leasing subsidiary of the large Japanese shipbuilding company Imabari Shipbuilding), and time chartered and operated by container transportation and shipping company Evergreen Marine headquartered in Luzhu District, Taoyuan City, Taiwan. Ever Given is registered in Panama, and its technical management is the responsibility of the German ship management company Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (BSM). This is the second time its been in an accident, due to a strong wind.
I guess the people who say that the ship's name is Evergreen just because it's painted on the side will also say that a PAL B-777-300 ER is called Philippines because it's written on the side. The beauty of the internet is that really shows you how little people know.
You know I think I’ll listen to someone who’s the chief engineer on a massive cargo ship over some armchair wannabe sailor in the RU-vid comments. Keep up the good work chief!
I can't imagine getting a call to refloat one of the biggest container ships ,fully loaded . Grounded on bow and stern . The excavators looked tiny . Amazing operation , nerves of steel , and never a doubt on what to do .
It's funny how the people who don't have knowledge about the ship's just start abusing professionals. The name 'evergreen' you see on the side is company name and the ships name is 'ever given' which you can see at the top of the bow. Please don't act oversmart and respect professionals, we are working here from years.
When has lack of knowledge ever stopped the armchair experts? With their logic, all the containers, chassis and ships owned by this company are named Evergreen. Not very imaginative to say the least.
I appreciate your professional opinion and friendly personality. Don't get too annoyed by stupid comments. Your channel is entertaining and informative to me, keep up the good work!
Why do people think they know everything, and then proceed to make fools of themselves on RU-vid? The Alexander von Humboldt is the "Alexander von Humboldt", just because it has CMA CGM in big letters along its side doesn't change that (look it up people!) and stop trying to be clever. Keep going Chief M, some of us are interested and respect what you have to say!
Sounds similar to the power/utilities industry, where there are often multiple levels of responsibility. It’s hard to keep-track-of since companies frequently get bought/sold and undergo rebranding and name changes. Our sister company has undergone 4-5 name tweaks or changes in the last decade, despite maintaining the same personnel and function. All at the behest of the parent- and grandparent- companies.
Confusion is not a side-effect of this kind of capitalism; it's the point. Changing names and organizational structures makes it hard to pursue legal action against the corporation, by design.
Now I feel like an asshole. I adamantly corrected someone who kept calling the ship Ever Given. I said to them they should go back to school and learn to read, The ship's name is on the side of the ship "EVERGREEN"! I have to go back and correct my comment, because today I went back to school. Thank's Chief MAKOi!
I call it like I see it , if that makes me an asshole I'm good with it . If the ship is evergiven then it's name on the side should read EVERGIVEN .....you can thank the company for the misleading name .
@@virginiamoss7045 That is not I said. Even when pilots are taken on to navigate in ports and canals. At the orders of that local authority. The "commander" of the ship is still ultimately responsible.
This video was more informative than any I have seen of the main media for the last week! Thank you! Can you tells more technical details of the actual salvage operation? Like how deep it got stuck? the depth of the canal? the force from the thug boats? etc...
Thank you sir for explaining all the information concerning the Evergreen ship named EverGiven. You explained very clearly and it is appreciated. Good job. Thank you sir 😊
I love when people shoot their mouth off like they know what they're talking about just to quickly be shut down and shown to be the actual idiot in the situation 😂😂😂
It's great, isn't it? I love when that happens, and lucky for us, it happens more and more as time goes on. Lucky for us we have RU-vid and social media and we get a front row seat with a much broader view of this aspect of society's collapse as the collective intelligence of the human race races downhill like a giant snowball.
@@GryphonRonas I think probably most of the human race has always been like that, before the internet we suspected that a large percentage of humans were fairly stupid...then along came the www and social media and confirmed our worst fears 😂
You know what chief? Don't listen to them. Hindi nila profession ang seaman kaya di nila alam haha. Nice vid by the way very imformative para sa walang alam. God bless po and keep safe always chief
I bet there were a lot of people who deleted their, “It’s evergreen not ever given you idiots!” post after this. In a world of handheld computers where the world’s collective information is actually and literally at your fingertips, people still get their foot stuck in their mouths.
@@petewerner1494 you maybe should take another look, lol. The Bow is the front of the boat, “the pointy part”. Not midship, where you idiots keep looking
@@jcmass41 You have got to be the stupidest person. Exactly,,,,, the bow of the ship has it's name. Midship is the company of the fleet of ships that it owns. Evergiven is that ship's name,,,,,,,,,and Evergreen is the ships owner,,,,,, now who's the idiot
@@petewerner1494 That is literally what the two people you replied to are saying... Maybe you should read their comments before hitting that reply button.
Now we know how many people still believe that the ship's name is evergreen. It's those who clicked dislike. They refuse to believe the truth, like a true american. 🤦♂️
The aviation industry is the same level of complexity. But none of the knuckleheadsd will understand your explanation, if they can't understand how the ship name is different from the company name written on its side :D Great video, Chief, loved it.

What amuses me most about comments on YT is that a lot of the people with the LEAST to say SHOUT it the LOUDEST - then wonder why other people laugh at them.
